Cragwood Country House Hotel

Short trip to hotel not tried before. What a gem! Staff are fabulous, nothing is too much trouble. Hotel and room spotlessly clean (try and get room 16 if you can! ). Food absolutely excellent. Based right at the water’s edge with fab views of the distant hills. I’d I was forced to be critical I could only ask for more control of the heating in the bedroom - we prefer a cool room to sleep in. However, this is being really picky! We have just returned from our very intimate wedding at the Cragwood. It was literally just the two of us.|The hotel has been beautifully refurbished and the grounds are stunning. Lake views galore, pretty gardens and the house itself make for fabulous wedding photos.|The food was amazing and the staff really make your stay enjoyable. Nothing is too much trouble and everything is well organised so you have nothing to worry about on your big day. |Special thanks to Emily, our two witnesess and the lovely young blonde lady with the very winning personality who works in the restaurant and shares my love of cheese rolls!|We could not be happier with our stay and have left feeling very spoilt and content.|We will return next year. We had a wedding for just the two of us here and had great food and a brilliant experience. The staff were very attentive and helpful, the afternoon tea and 4 course meal we had the night before and after the ceremony was excellent. Just spent 2 nights at Cragwood. A lovely clean Hotel my room 17 was lmmaculate with nice decor , big comfy bed , modern tv and good bathroom. The staff are a credit to the place, amazingly friendly. Food here is wonderful with a very good breakfast and top quality evening meal. Lunch time would highly recommend the Club sandwich but you need a good appetite it was huge. My wife and I stayed for a 2 night break . Beautiful garden view room. Gardens excellent for a nice stroll. Very clean in all areas . Staff excellent and very attentive. Fine Dining on first evening a real treat with free bottle of wine . Bar snacks great on second evening in front of roaring log fire. Breakfast on both mornings great. We made good use of free lake cruise tickets on Friday which also saves on car park fees .will become one of our favourite hotels in perfect location between Bowness and Ambleside. My mum and I booked the hotel using a Wowcher. We had an absolutely fantastic stay - our room had a lovely view of the garden and it was all comfortable and clean. We had a delicious canapé and Gin and Tonic before our meal, then ate in the restaurant. Every course was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. Beautiful venue and views with wonderful staff to match! Special thanks to Emily, Albert, Joel and Stacey. Planning our daughter's wedding was blissfully easy with this team behind you! They took all the pain away and we all had an absolutely wonderful weekend from start to finish. I just hope I didn't mither them too much during the run up! Absolutely nothing was too much trouble for them, The food was truly magnificent - Calvin and his team are so talented and obviously care so much about their craft. Catering for 80 people at Calvin's immensely high standard can't have been easy but everything was seamless. I heard nothing but great comments about the whole weekend, we couldn't be more pleased! I could carry on and on but I'm sure anyone reading this review will get the gist, I'd have no hesitation in recommending The Cragwood, indeed, I've not stopped talking about it all! We dropped into this hotel just on passing to see if they will allow dogs. We were met with such a welcome to us and our two dogs. We were on a day trip meeting up with relatives from Ireland and it was the perfect venue to end a lovely day. The service was fantastic, the food good with realistic prices and we had a very enioyable evening. The staff were extremely friendly and very attentive, though not overly so. We have just returned from a 3 night gourmet break and we enjoyed it all, lovely large comfortable ground floor room with a huge bed and wet room en-suite plus direct access into the beautiful gardens, it was ideal as we had our dog with us so we were able to walk down to the lakeside whenever we wanted. Delicious complementary cream tea on arrival, and in the evening there was plenty of choice for each course which was just as well as it was the same menu every night. Great little bar with a good selection of drinks including a very tasty real ale on draft.||All the staff were so friendly and helpful too, there were yummy breakfasts with lots of choice as well. All in all we had a really great break, we even had a boat trip included so although it was not cheap it was very good value for money! More...

Cragwood is nestled next to Lake Windermere, feeling isolated and yet only 2 miles from Windermere station. ||Cragwood staff went above and beyond to cater to the needs of my wedding and our guests. Even allowing me to reserve the hotel from the night before for family and guests travelling a distance. (Unsold rooms then advertised to the public the night before. We had exclusivity on the Wedding day) I have to name Emily, Albert and Joel who looked after us for the entire weekend. However all Cragwood staff were so wonderful and attentive, my guests commented many times and felt like they were celebrity VIPs. Everyone was so relaxed and so happy. The staff got to know us all, you can tell there is a wonderful atmosphere and teamwork, the staff go out of their way, they enjoy what they do. The food was sensational, absolutely delicious throughout, the kitchen staff were wonderful. Emily really understood my vision, to the point I had no reason to stress as she had everything under control. All the staff maintained contact with me throughout the day to clarify on any timings or slight amendments, for example, what I wanted to do with the cake. The cake was made inhouse by Katie, and she met my inspiration pictures perfectly. The cake itself was devine. I am also sure the staff turned off the rain clouds, as the rain had been torrential up until the morning, then the sun came out and we had beautiful photos with a stunning backdrop.||I cannot speak highly enough or thank Cragwood enough. Cragwood Country House Hotel on the shore of Lake Windermere is a gem. Lovely bedrooms, scrupulously clean, very comfortable beds, lovely views of the gardens, woods and Lake. |Sitting by the blazing wood fire in cosy lounge enjoying canapé before dinner, gazing out of the stone mullion windows. The Chef and staff are marvellous - delicious food, beautifully prepared and presented. |Travelling solo can be mildly uncomfortable sometimes but here every member of staff without exception has been welcoming and solicitous, striking just the right note.|I shall certainly be returning and don't hesitate to recommend Cragwood. We booked Cragwood for our ‘just us’ wedding package for just the two of us. The whole experience was perfect from beginning to end. We were welcomed & shown round by the lovely Eva & were blown away by our beautiful room (room 1) & the stunning hotel & grounds overlooking Windemere, with mountains as a backdrop. Stacey our wedding co-ordinator organised everything from our music to the ceremony outside in the gardens. We wanted a laid back wedding & that is precisely what we got. The food was outstanding & every member of staff we encountered was friendly & professional. Special thanks to Carol & Patrick, who were our witnesses provided by Cragwood & to Carol for taking fabulous photos of our wedding with my husband’s iPhone. What an incredible place to stay. Every member of staff my husband and I encountered were friendly, polite and professional; with particular recognition for our waiter Ian. The Afternoon Tea on our arrival was delicious. ||The grounds are beautiful, and the views of the lakes breathtaking. The location of Cragwood allows a short walk with easy access to the jetty to catch the boat to neighbouring villages. The food is cooked to precision and the bed is so comfortable it facilitates a good night sleep following a busy day walking. I highly recommend Cragwood and cannot wait to revisit. More...
