Hands-down, my favorite DC restaurant. I have enjoyed every bite on their ever-changing menu. There are no reservations, but the wait is not usually too long. Put your name on the list then head over to Tico for a coctail! By the time you see the bottom of your glass the table will be ready. More...

My girlfriend's favorite place to take people visiting from out of town. Probably was our third date or something like that. Always interesting, always delicious. Way too dark to see the menu but we just trust the waiters to tell us what's good. It's also fairly noisy so be ready for that. More...

We had the world prefix menu for eight people. It was a ton of food and we had to take two bags of leftovers home. The restaurant is loud but not as loud as many bars. The table was small so we were able to hear each other sitting fairly close to each other. We had older parents there and they were able to hear well enough although there's not much light and the menus have very small print. More...

I would definitely recommend. Every dish was great, the khachapurri and the five spice chicken were exceptionally good. Nice ambiance too. We went the moment it opened on a saturday night and got a table of 4 immediately. Not sure we would have been as lucky if we would have come later. More...

This is a fantastic little place. It’s located behind Cafe Saint-Ex, and isn’t really obvious from 14th Street. It’s in a small rowhouse, and doesn’t have much seating. There’s an outside pavilion covered with a “Bedouin Tent”, which is very nice but can be a little warm in the summer. You’ll almost certainly need reservations, or you’ll face a long wait. We went there without reservations, and they put us on the list and called us about an hour later. The theme is small dishes from around the world. Everything is from a different place: Greece, Malaysia, Mexico, Indonesia, Iran, Spain and so on. The signature dish is Khachapuri, from Georgia, which is a pizza-like construction of hot bread, cheese, egg and butter. The server will stir this up within the hot bread right at your table. It’s delicious! But honestly, everything was delicious. On our latest visit, we started with sambuseh - quite a bit different from Indian samosas or Ethiopian sambusas. We moved on to a spinach and coconut dip with flatbread from Zanzibar, Mexican elote corn cob halves, a cool and refreshing salad with egg, cabbage, daikon and tofu from Indonesia and finally the Khachapuri, which is the largest and most filling dish. Presentation is simple but appropriate for these small dishes. The service is very good and is quick to pick up empty plates, which is pretty important in a small place. They also convinced us to try the cinnamon panna cotta, which was a nice change from the average panna cotta found in most places. There’s a small but satisfactory beer list. More...

This is one of my partner and I's top 3 favorite restaurants in DC. Eating here is like a world tour of flavor - they have ethnic inspired dishes from many different countries. The curried lamb, kakuni (pork belly), and khachapuri (cheese-filled bread) are some of our favorites but you honestly can't go wrong with anything you get here. It's all amazing! More...

A delightful smorgasbord of international cuisine. I saved visiting this location for a special occasion (my birthday) and it did not disappoint. We ordered a variety of dishes from all over the world and each one was unique and perfect for sharing. The khachapurri is a must-have as the presentation and preparation happens in front of you and is almost (almost!) as good as the taste of the dish. The house-designed cocktails were interesting and overall pretty good. Waitstaff was VERY friendly (almost too much) but also attentive to making sure we knew how things operated at this restaurant. Given that the menu rotates regularly, I'll be back to this place shortly to have an entirely new experience. More...

We met a young guy outside of a local coffee shop and struck a conversation about good dining options in DC according to a local since we were staying in the area for over a week. He was spot on with his recommendations, one of which was Compass Rose. Our server was Aaron, who was very knowledgeable of the design of the menu and was quick to act on our needs and questions. As tapas to share, the amount is adequate. The flavors of both the Malaysian Crab/Shrimp Salad and the Curry Lamb dishes were outstanding. My only complaint (unknown at the time of dining) is that the meal was on the salty side, only known later when our thirst was insatiable. The ambience was charming, quaint, intimate inside the front room. The bottom room, less so at the earlier hour, perhaps after dark, more quaint. We were also able to speak to Rose, the owner and learn of her story in design of the restaurant both interior and menu concept. She was charming. Overall, our experience was worth the trip, the early reservation, and dining charm. More...

The Tour of the World is an awesome Prix Fixe meal, with 12 dishes and 3 drinks. Almost every dish is spectacular alone, but they are always better when one dish is paired with the next one in the sequence (i. e. the sequence of dishes offers amazing contrast). Would definitely recommend a reservation, and the Tour of the World meal requires a reservation More...
