I followed my favorite stylist to this salon, so really the five stars is for Ariel DeAngelo.  If you are looking for natural, long-lasting, grow-outable (pretty sure that's not a word, but you know what I mean) color, then Ariel is your girl.  I could probably get away with getting my hair done every six months or more because her highlights grow out so naturally and are so well blended.  Her cuts are also beautiful and do a great job of making my super thick hair look a little tamer.  The only downside is that the word is out that Ariel is awesome, so she books up fast. Thankfully, Commoner has a super easy to use online booking system, so it's easy to assess availability and nab an open appointment that works for your schedule.Commoner as a salon is also lovely.  The vibe is laid back, warm, and inviting, with cathedral height ceilings, sky lights, exposed brick, and lots of warm earth tones.  It doesn't have a "hair salon" smell, and instead, it feels like your really cool friend's hygge-filled living room.  There's not a ton of parking right by the salon, but it's located in very walkable Little Five with lots of street parking in the neighborhood. AMAZING space...so full of light! Best stylist in the ATL, Lynn Norman, moved her business here and I couldn't be happier. Lynn is excellent at both color and cut and has been phenomenal in helping me to find the best cut/color/products for my super fine (but I've got a TON of it!), curly, dry hair! I just started coming here as my stylist moved from another salon. I love my stylist Eric. He does a great job with my hair with both coloring and cuts. I would highly recommend him!
The salon itself is modern, sleek, clean, bright and airy with tall ceilings and brick walls (giving it a loft feel). The salon is very comfortable and inviting and there was street parking nearby. It's in Little Five so you can go grab a bite to eat or a drink after your appointment. More...

Lauren is amazing. I have followed her around Atlanta and am so happy she has created her dream in Akasa and now Commoner. I just plop down in her chair and tell her in vague, all over the place detail what I would like to do to my hair. She listens to what I say, makes suggestions based on my vagueness, and works magic. Loved my experience here! I went from super blonde with some pretty nasty roots to a healthy, natural dark blonde that suits me perfectly. The salon itself has a wonderfully relaxed, airy vibe. The products they use are high quality and smell amazing. I've been to a lot of salons over the years and I have to say this is the first one I've ever truly felt comfortable in and walked away with exactly what I wanted.

Heather Smith is such and amazing stylist and colorist! I was ready for something a little dramatic and different and we decided to go with an ashy platinum for color and a long bob for the cut. First time visiting this salon last week. I'm a guy and I've had my hair cut all over the city of Atlanta at all the trendy hair places for dudes. But this place? This place RULED and it was HANDS DOWN because Heather Smith cut my hair. I've had the same style of cut for years now, but when I went in here, I wanted something different. I'm a guy with shorter hair, so what's one to do? I put my trust and confidence in Heather, that's what!When I walked in, she was standing there ready for our appointment. Eric cuts my hair, and he's very focused, meticulous, and generally awesome at what he does. The space is beautiful and everyone who works there contributes to the welcoming atmosphere. I just can't give it a full five stars because they don't have a receptionist; you book your own appointments online. Today was my first appointment.  I saw Eric, who was obviously skilled, wielding a razor with artistic savvy and the greatest of ease, while making me feel at ease myself. The environment is calm and the space is gorgeous-- my favorite 'adaptive re-use' of an old post office.  Appointment schedule is easily done online using your device, and there's no front desk, just tablets at the point of sale.  Super cool.  I'll definitely be back even if I am notoriously horrible about making appointments.
