Amazing place to work. To anyone that hasn't got a job, or is looking to get some experience in the culinary industry to get a job, this is the place for you. The staff are super friendly and amazing. Every day is a new experience and you do something new every single day. On top of just cooking, they help you create a resume, understand more about finances and money spending, and they even make sure you get your ServSafe allergen awareness and ServSafe food handling certifications. They also take you to get a Mass ID if you don't have one and you want one, and they cover it as well as transport you there to fill out the paperwork needed. It is 100% worth it to come here. Highly recommend Root for catering needs. Our Salem Spirits Trolley contracted Root for one of our corporate team programs, ordering a selection of sandwiches, wraps and salads for approx 35 guests on board the Trolley as their lunch. Everything was done exactly as ordered and with care, including making sure folks with allergies were accommodated. We were thrilled to hear "BEST salad I've had in a long time!" My wife and I held our wedding reception here earlier this month. Everything was fabulous - the food was as delicious as it was during our tasting, the decor was just as we envisioned, the staff were attentive to our, and our guests' needs, and above all those involved with helping us plan the event were true professionals, going above and beyond to ensure our reception was perfect.

The food was delicious and the was very pleasant. The the Lizzie Borden cocktail specifically was weak and by weak I mean no bourbon flavor. We had a rather long wait, but being it is October in Salem, I cannot fault the restaurant for that! The food was good and the drinks were awesome (my wife loves the Candy Corntini). I had Sirlion Tips and they were cooked medium, yet had that wonderful char on the outside. Very tender and prepared great. The fries were very good, and even though the place was totally mobbed, the waiter kept coming back asking if we needed anything and ran several times for refills and coffee. My wife and I were in Salem doing the whole witch thing and decided, after looking around for a while, to dine here. My wife did have a problem with what she ordered, it was not to her liking but the waitress and the manager were more than happy to help her find something else that she would enjoy The waitress was from the area and assisted us in guiding our way thru town to the sights of our interest. My husband and I very recently had our wedding here and we can not say enough good things about this place. First this place is everything we imagined for our wedding with the old time Salem feel and look to it. Plus the food was absolutely amazing! We highly suggest getting the mini chicken and waffles as an appetizer, it was everyone's favorite thing of the night! Michelle and her staff were like a well oiled machine. They were there to answer every question and give us guidance on things we were unsure of. We were never made to feel like we were bothering anyone any time we reached out for an answer! Loved everything about this hall! We knew being only two blocks from our church made it a good location but we didn't anticipate our guests wanting to walk down Essex St. before (and a few during) the reception! Michelle was amazing to work with and anticipated everything which really helped considering I was planning a wedding in 6 months. The food is amazing, and people still talk about it as often as they talk about the band or my dress, and they even talk about our green napkins!
