Cochinito Taqueria, LLC

Cochinito is located in the prime area of Downtown Spokane and offers and very trendy atmosphere. The aesthetics of the decor offers a unique vibe and there is decent amount of seating that is accommodating for large parties. During our visit here we were greeted by the owner and staff members, all whom were very friendly and gave some recommendations to us since it was our first time. Their menu offers a unique selection of tacos compared to other taquerias which include lamb, octopus, and mushroom. I decided to go with a cup of Horchata and Carnitas and Lamb tacos. The horchata drink was a bit watered down for my taste, but the tacos were good - both were flavorful and tender. Were they the best tacos I've ever had? No, but I would say it's one of the best taco joints in Spokane.Overall, the food and atmosphere was great. My biggest gripes about the place would have to be:- Price: it is indeed very expensive for tacos, but I would argue that part of the markup is the location and the vibe. Yes, it's on the pricier side compared to other restaurants in Spokane, but if this was in other metropolitan areas like Silicon Valley or NYC then the prices and the trendiness is comparable.- Parking: It's located in downtown, so it's either street parking or paying at a parking lot. We tried this place for the first time tonight. There was a little confusion when we walked in on how to order and be seated. Once we made our way to the counter it was much more clear. I did the taco meal. I enjoyed the rice and beans. I had one pollo taco, which was ok, but when the hot sauce hit it was delicious. The hot sauce is awesome here. The Al Pastor taco was way different and way delicious, much like the chorizo taco I got to eat also. Neither my wife or daughter much cared for their margaritas. The atmosphere was cool. What a gem! I don't remember seeing this place the last time I was in town but i'm glad it's here and I have discovered the secret now! Reasonable prices and good seasonings make the food here exciting and novel. I had a bowl of greens with shrimp as my protein/meat. While the portion was small it was flavorful and delicious. My dinner companion had two tacos and I could hear a muffled "this is delicious" in between bites. A neighboring customer had ordered the churros and the portion was 4 sticks - being a type II diabetic he offered us his remaining two churro bites which we had a hard time turning down. I'm glad we got to try them! Homemade and delicious they were crisp on the outside, doughy on the inside, and came with decadent dipping sauces. Was so excited to try this restaurant and me and mine left fat and happy! Even for a mostly veggie eater like myself, they had  great options. Super tasty hand crafted food. Such a plethora of tastes and textures on my four house made corn tortillas. One lamb, one pork cheek carnitas, rock fish, and chorizo. By far my favorite give a the intensity of taste and texture was the lamb. Surprisingly least favorite, still so very good, was the chorizo. Great little spot for tacos and drinks! Authentic flavors I have never seen before and delicious fresh ingredients are obviously used. Its priced reasonably and their simple set up is fast and efficient. You grab a menu, order, then sit. Water is self service (I'm sure to reduce waste) and the process is fast whether you are just looking to eat and go or dine in and enjoy a few drinks! More...

I can't stop thinking about the tacos I had here last night! The food was really good and the service was pleasant and friendly. The special was a pulled pork and pineapple taco and I swear it had white chocolate on it too what?!!! Delicious!  My daughter had the pozole and she said it was equally amazing! The chips were warm and I loved the shape, which is an odd thing to say, but I think it made them tastier! I will mention the guacamole wasn't great, but we are really picky about our guacamole and therefore I didn't hold it against them :)The place was clean and the decor was cute. Today I had my 5th experience with Cochinto Taq. and I'm ready to write a review. First experience I was 9 months pregnant and had my 3 year old with me. She talked over me the entire time I was trying to order... I was flustered. The person trying to take my order was really kind, patient and helpful. He didn't seem the least bit bothered and even engaged with my daughter long enough for me to pay- then helped us to our seat with beverages etc. the food was fast and delicious.Then two experiences I had my husband,  new born and toddler. We order lots and lots of food, ate all of it! The Fresca was dynamite (cucumber, jalapeño?)  Everything was really delicious, thoughtful, balanced and fresh. Also the people who work there look happy!We decided to bring out of town guests here- An older couple completely out of their food element. The owner took extra time to explain the menu, make sure they didn't order too much and to find some common ground (Portland, Oregon). Today I had 2 tacos at the Pig out in the Park... again great quality food, flavorful, full of love. No doubt they are pushing the envelope here in Spokane. This restaurant had friendly service and a relaxed, themed ambiance. The kitchen is from scratch, meaning they hand press their tortillas everyday and make craft drinks. They were very busy on a Friday night, but we were lucky and only had to wait five minutes for a seat. They seat you, meaning no reserving tables, and you order before you sit. We tried the ahi ceviche with crunchy tortilla chips as an appetizer. It was fresh and tasty. The tacos I ordered were also delicious. It has been my 5th time back, the ceviche, fondito, grilled octopus.....Stellar. The various tacos pork cheek, lamb birria, and the fried chicken were unique. I wish they would do tongue, brains, sweetbreads and tail but that may be to radical for the tastes of the Inland Northwest. It is a nice change of pace and fills in a void from my home in Cabo, whenever I get homesick.  I would really enjoy a Pacific Lobster, taco, or the fried osterrones or a nice fried pig cracklings taco. I am happy that this place is doing well and it is enjoyable that we have this an Zona Blanca to kick it up a notch.
