Travelling back from Cambridgeshire to Kent we decided to deviate off the M11 for dinner and stumbled across this pub. How lucky we were. The staff were extremely friendly and the food was devine, best Sea Bass I've ever eaten. We plan to revisit whenever we hit the M11 at meal times. So much more enjoyable than the Birchanger Services. More...

I visited the Coach and Horses with my family on Father's Day for a relaxed and enjoyable meal although we were celebrating a birthday. As it was Father’s day there was a set menu, although there was still plenty to choose from including roast beef, pork, chicken supreme or gammon with a selection of fresh vegetables and roast potatoes; a fish dish, vegetarian option and children’s meal were also on the menu. Everyone in the family chose a roast as did the two Coeliacs, whose meal was the same except for the Yorkshire pudding; the gravy was also gluten free.

We declined starters in order to save room for pudding; there were several hot and cold choices; two suitable for Coeliacs. The waiting and kitchen staff were knowledgeable about gluten-free food, what was required as well as being aware of contamination by gluten containing foods.

This was my first visit in a very long time, but I will be returning again to sample some of their other meals as well as their Sunday lunch, which was exactly as it should be.

We had a late minute booking for 11 of us for Sunday lunch. Lovely roasts, and great vegetarian options too. Will definitely go back. Felt very well looked after.

I thought I'd write a review for a few reasons.
1. Jon & Lucy who run the pub, do so like a well oiled machine
2. Beer is always spot on, with a great larger selection
3. Food selection has been thought about.
It's still pub grub but done exceptionally well.
4. It's open to anyone but is still remains a local boozer.
5. They run this pub whilst raising a 1 year old child. Which can be very trying with unsocial hours they have to do.
When they are closed its so they spend time with her. So in light of the RUDE comment below. It's not they're fault that you never checked to see wether the pub was open. It's not a Wetherspoons.

You cannot make a negative review unless you've actually been in the Coach and not enjoyed your experience. This pub is Jon & Lucy's livelihood. Use your head before making stupid remarks

Great quality food, we enjoyed light and fresh tasting seafood pasta with a gorgeous creamy sauce and superb risotto with grilled cheese. Staff were lovely and welcoming.

Contacted them a few days before our booking to ask about vegan options and as we gave them notice we were presented with 7 or 8 delicious sounding meals we could choose in advance. Four vegans in the group, all chose different meals (lasagne, curry, nachos and risotto), and all were tasty and thoughtfully prepared. Also had two desert options (truffles and pecan chocolate brownie) which were equally wonderful. So nice to eat in a pub where I actually felt the owners cared about giving us a great dining experience. Will definitely be back again soon. More...

I've been to Coach & Horses a few times now over the past year &have never been disappointed. Me & my partner went for a meal last night & again the food was first class. I'm taking my family there next weekend for a pre Xmas meal & get together & have booked a table for 10 of us. Jon & his wife who run the Coach & Horses do a fantastic job. I'm a new resident to Newport & its lovely knowing we have such a fantastic pub & restaurant so nearby. More...
