Had a recurring problem with a strained Achilles’ tendon which for many months meant I was unable to run. A mixture of acupuncture, massage and rehabilitation exercises along with some sound advise from Isla has made a huge difference. I am now able to exercise regularly running/cycling without a recurrence of the problem. Highly recommended More...

I have been to see Isla at Studio 8 in The Cricket Club twice, and each time she has been extremely helpful, thorough, and very attentive to my needs. I've been very happy with the assessment she did of my inflamed and possibly damaged hip, with her treatment of my shoulder pain, and with her help getting back into a gentle version of Pilates exercises (she has also been my Pilates teacher before my injury--and a very good one). I look forward to more sessions. More...

I went to Clinic8 and took part in both Pilates and MOTR. I was a newbie to both classes and they were fantastic (plus I'm now addicted to MOTR). The classes are small enough that you get the '1 on 1' treatment that you don't normally get with group classes. What I loved is Isla spends time with you to ensure you spot on with your positions and movements which was great for a newbie and often lost in larger group sessions. I couldn't recommend both Isla and the classes, she's a star and the studio is beautiful. More...

I did my first MOTR class at Clinic 8 today and loved it! I do Pilates regularly, but the balance and variable resistance aspects of the MOTR allowed me to get much more out of my session.

Isla was very good taking our group of beginners through the motions, and giving me modifiers to prevent unnecessary pressure on my injured knees. I would highly recommend Clinic 8's MOTR classes to anyone looking to try something new. A great all-over workout with a strong emphasis on core, whether or not you have any injuries.

I'm already booked in to my next class!

I Have been to Clinic8 and seen Isla on two occasions now and have had a fantastic experience each time. The first occasion for was for a sports massage following a very arduous endurance event, at the end of the hour i left feeling much looser and refreshed.

The second occasion was for an injury consult and Isla was exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable in diagnosing the issue and crafting a rehabilitation plan for me after doing some work during the session to help alleviate the pain.

Isla is also extremely personable and takes a genuine interest in her client and their activities creating a relaxed and welcoming environment. I would not hesitate to recommend Clinic8 and Isla to anyone looking for a physio

Isla was incredibly helpful diagnosing and treating a calf injury I picked up running. The rehabilitation was effective and the exercises i was given have helped me return to running quickly. Isla also suggest a number of other things I could be doing to reduce future risks of injury. Overall it was a very pleasant experience, in a clean and modern environment that's easy to get to with good parking. Couldn't ask for more. Will be recommnending to all St Albans Striders and anyone else who has sports niggles, or perhaps just fancies doing a pilates class! More...

Soft tissue massage is implemented in training programs throughout the professional sporting world as both a preventative measure and as a performance enhancement tool.

Intense and increased training loads can cause muscle tightness, which may impair performance. Sports massage has been shown to reduce these effects when applied on a regular basis and is available both pre and post event.

It can be used to identify problematic areas, which may lead to potential injury, and can help reduce the tension from every day life as well as treat the aches from physical exercise.

Common injuries we treat:
Back, neck and shoulder pain/tension
Muscle soreness
Strains
Sprains
Chronic or new injuries
Everyday aches and pains

Clinical Pilates is a series of mat based exercises in various different body positions which have been adapted by physiotherapists to make them more suitable for patients with back and neck pain, and those recovering from injury.

Clinical Pilates is a relaxing and gentle form of exercise. It is run in small classes to enable the patient and therapist to work together to ensure that the exercises are being completed correctly and so that if required the exercises can be adapted on a one to one basis. Completing Pilates exercises regularly, it can help to improve your posture, strength and flexibility alongside a healthy lifestyle.

Evidence supports the use of the Pilates method in the prevention and rehabilitation of back injuries. By retraining the deep abdominal and spinal muscles, Pilates can help to prevent the recurrence of back pain in combination with correct back care and advice, and gentle aerobic activity.

OnTrack sports therapy are proud to have a number of practitioners that are trained to use Kinesio taping techniques for sports injuries and other minor injuries. Kinesio taping is a unique format of taping designed for many different uses to help injured tissue. Kinesio taping unlike other forms of taping allows your joints to move, which make it ideal for sports injuries. (Kinesio UK).

What is medical acupuncture?
The technique involves the insertion of fine needles; ultra-thin, single filament needles. The insertion points vary from person-to-person and change with various conditions. This is an ancient technique that has been used by many practitioners and therapists for years in order to treat a multitude of conditions. There is nothing injected into the body, the response from dry needling is from the body’s natural reaction to the needle insertion. Needling can be used to treat many different conditions and injuries within the human body; joint problems, muscle strains, tendon issues and beyond. It can be used for both sedentary people suffering with aches and pains to sporting athletes suffering from short/long-term injuries.

How does it work?
As mentioned, we do not inject any substance into the body; it is purely your body’s natural response to the needle being inserted and the effects that the body produces. Firstly; through various chemical reactions; pain inhibition occurs, which then allows the body to perform more natural movements or allows rehab exercises to be performed more effectively. Another result of chemical reactions leads to increased blood flow in and around the insertion site, this can allow better movement function, enhancement of recovery processes and increase oxygen delivery to these areas that may be deprived of sufficient supply. This new blood flow and oxygen delivery to the injury site can also encourage waste products to be flushed through the system.

Does it hurt?
Generally; no. Some of the insertions may be uncomfortable and some can sting a bit but a lot of the time the patient cannot even feel the needle! After treatment the patient may feel a bit achy for 24-48hours but this sensation subsides.

Will it work on my injury?
There is a great variety of injuries/conditions that can benefit from the dry needling technique. Medical acupuncture will only be used if it can be beneficial on the recovery of the injury and will not just be used for the sake of it. Quite often medical acupuncture will be used in combination with other therapies and rehab exercises; it is possible to try dry needling as a solo treatment too.
