Are you searching for answers to the question WHY?
Why do I feel the way I feel?
Why can I not be honest with the people in my life about how I feel and why I feel it?
Why am I stuck in a life I can’t seem to change?
Why are my relationships with the people I love empty and unfulfilling?
Why are relationships, at home and work so difficult, complicated and conflicted?
Why are my emotions dictating, and at times, ruining my life?
Why do I end up in the same place in life despite trying to be different?
Why am I afraid to be myself and make choices that are positive for me?
Why do I continue to abuse myself and my body, by making bad choices?
Why do I lack energy and enthusiasm?
Why am I so tired and exhausted?
Why do I stay in a job I hate?
Why am I not confident enough to live the life I want and ask for the things I need?
Some of you may know the answer to these types of questions. If so, the problem isn’t then, why do you feel this way? It’s why can you not make the required changes in your life to feel the way you want and deserve to?
If you are still reading this, you are now likely to have a couple more questions.
Do I really need to see a therapist?
Why should I pick this particular person?
If I do, will she be able to help me?
Whilst I could give you reasons, explanations and theories about how our emotions and therapy work, or a long list of my qualifications and experience, do any of these things really answer these questions? I would probably guess the answer is no.
The answer to whether you should call me lies within you, as do the answers to all of the questions.
I believe counselling is about real conversations with real people about real issues. I believe my role as a therapist is to be authentically me, so that you can learn to become more authentically you. Counselling is about being in relationships with someone you can learn to trust, someone you can learn to be yourself with and to explore the answers to your questions WHY.
It is this word ‘authenticity’ that sits at the heart of the counselling process and the counselling relationship. Authenticity is the ability to be truly yourself, to be genuine in your life and your interactions. It’s having the courage to be you, something that many of us find most challenging of all.
I know what it feels like to have real challenges, to have relationships that feel difficult, overwhelming and often very painful. I know what it feels like to feel depressed and alone, wondering whether life is really worth the effort it is taking.
Counselling gave me a road back to myself and my family, and the answers to my ‘WHY’S’
I couldn’t believe how having someone to talk to who listened, without judgment and expectation helped me feel better, make different choices and take control of my life. I began to find an inner strength I didn’t know existed, a voice I was afraid to use and the ability to solve my own problems.
Was it hard? Yes.
Was it quick? No
Did it require hard work? Yes
Was it worth it? Yes
I hope that through sharing my experiences, you can feel less alone. At some point in life we all suffer with problems, most people just choose to ignore them and suffer the consequences. Just like we would see a doctor for a virus or go to the hospital for a broken leg. It is OK to ask for help when we feel that we need it. I do not protest to have all the answers, although I do have a few clues along the way that may help you.
What I can promise is that I’m willing to support you on your journey towards finding the answers to your questions, which will hopefully allow you to begin living life the way you want.
As a trained Person-Centered Counsellor and registered member of the BACP I specialize in:
Generalised Anxiety Disorders
Depression
Stress related issues
Relationship & Marital problems
Parental and family issues
Obsessional and behavioral problems
Panic Disorders
I am also a trained and experienced therapist for Children and Young People, currently working as a school counsellor alongside my private practice. I am both DBS registered and trained in safeguarding.
Working with issues such as:
Relationship difficulties at school and/or at home
School phobias and anxieties
Peer pressure
Stress
Self-confidence and body image
Performance and exam pressures
ADD/ADHD
Anger Management
Many of these issues can present as anxiety, depression, defiant behaviours, OCD, self-harming and eating disorders. My aim is to provide your child with an atmosphere that allows them to speak freely and safely. Working in both primary and secondary schools, I have first-hand experience in the daily challenges both parents and young people face. I appreciate that exploring the idea of counselling for your child can feel like an intimidating and scary process. However, I hope that my enthusiasm and compassion for working with young people and families, combined with my ability to relate to both you and your son or daughter will make this transition into therapy a comfortable and reassuring experience.
