City Dogs is awesome. Went to them with some colleagues for lunch on a whim. Â We didn't know it, but the waitress informed us it was hamburger Wednesday three dollar hamburgers if you order a side with it. We all had hamburgers and they were all delicious. I have to say, I didn't expect a sit-down place with wait service but that's what it is. Â Not formal of course, and I haven't been here late at night with the drunk crowds but I can see that the service can be hit or miss. Â I'm a fan of bar seating, and they truly do have a full service bar, plus quite a few hot dog offerings and even a bunch of sandwiches. Â The kitchen is very small, and I haven't tried anything but the hot dogs but they're quite good.The hot dog menu is a bit heavy on options with chili, sauerkraut, and salsa but I can see why you'd want to re-use ingredients with such a small kitchen. Â The chili is all meat (and a bit of grease) with just okay taste so I wouldn't get it on its own but on most hot dogs it will be fine with onions, mustard, etc. Â The buns are soft but hold up to everything just fine and the hot dogs are thin but have just enough snap to be close to perfect. Â They definitely leave plenty of room for the toppings.I'd love to have more exciting options, such as a Sonoran Dog instead of the fairly generic Santa Fe Dog, etc. Â But I understand the limitations of a tiny kitchen and if the clientele is happy then go with it - take your money and run. I go to City Dogs when I want hot dogs. That says it all. If you want the best in the area (and I believe I've tried them all) this is the place. I love their homemade slaw (secret ingredient - horse radish). Wow. I always go on Tuesdays and I usually get the 2 Dog Combo (2 Richmond dogs with mustard, chili and onions) and a side of either Cole slaw for potato salad. I always sit at the bar for quick refills of soda. The waitstaff and managers are great people. Cool place and a cool concept. The hot dog link itself is pretty much exactly what anyone could want. Great snap to it. The bun is where I can hope for better. Too much bread and density - especially with such a good hot dog link hidden inside. The toppings are executed as well as can be considering all the cities they're trying to cover. I had a great experience with the food and the service! I had some questions about the vegetarian options and the waitress was super helpful. I decided to go with the Richmond dog with the vegetarian hot dog and chili and with some fries on the side. City Dogs has the rare honor, in Richmond, of being truly excellent value; for someone like me that is worth a lot. Â Their special on Monday has $1. 50 hot dogs with chili, mustard and onions. Â Wednesday is $3.00 cheeseburgers. Â It's really easy to eat a full meal, the way you want it, for way less than $10 here. Â That's great.The food and service at City Dogs is good. There's a decent variety of hot dog toppings and my food has always been cooked well. Â Nothing I've eaten here has blown me away - it's pretty standard stuff that tastes predictable and isn't healthy for you. I headed here after running the Ragnar Trail - Richmond with three of my teammates. Two of them had been before and promised excellent, no judgment grub. The judgment part was important because we had been running in the woods for 24 hours and hadn't showered yet (Ragnar Pro Tip: Baby wipes save lives). Thankfully the day was balmy and sunny, so we got to enjoy the outside deck. I'm not a vegetarian, but I rarely eat hotdogs because I don't eat mammals, so I was expecting very limited meal options all things considered. I was wrong! They made it really easy to swap a veggie dog for the more traditional meat options, and they tasted really good! Not bland or dry as can happen. My teammates, greater advocates for the consumption of the varieties of meats available, easily agreed to, and then we all loved, the vegetarian option dog bites, which were heavenly morsels that came with a great dipping sauce. This happens to an awesome hot dog spot with a bar attached. It's hard to tell which came first, but the small bar definitely had a few regulars at it. The dogs are great. S/o to my first hotdog since lent!!!! (Gave up bread) first off this place... I've passed it a million times while drinking in the fan and never noticed it. It's about the size as like a sub shop I guess.. it has a patio too I think. Anyways my friend and I were here late Thursday night. I got the Coney Island dog and she got the Wisconsin. Everything was on point with my dog, she said she didn't love the peppers on hers. The 2 hot dogs also took like 30 mins to make.. I guess it was a full bar and there was only one waitress on the floor. Ok so this place is kind of tiny and the only thing that ticked me off a bit was that they had a huge band playing. Normally I love live bands- it'd be better if they had the band on the patio or something, the band was soooo loud I couldn't here myself think for the 45 mins we were there. Great spot! The bartender was so sweet! She had greenish hair and definitely made my day. She kind of reminds you of Winston from new girl (personality wise) and It just felt very refreshing to have someone like her to talk to when you're at the bar.

Mini corn dogs were banging. Â The hot dogs had a light snap and the chili was flavorful all on top of the perfect bun. Â I had the slaw as a side and it was decent. Â Service was good as well. Came here late night after a st Patty's celebration. I actually went to the city dogs downtown earlier that day but I like this place maybe better. Chill bar vibes with live band and outdoor chill patio area. I ordered the Cincinnati dog again for me and my bf and it tasted exactly the same as the other location. The Chicago Style Hot Dog was absolutely amazing!!! It is made just like Chicago style dogs in Chicago. Being a Chicago native it's important to me that Chicago style dogs are made correctly. City Dog made it perfectly.

Well worth it and they deliver. I found the dogs had a small snap, sauce was perfect and buns were extremely fresh. I tend to like meat sauce and coleslaw or just plain mustard, unless you're under 15, never put ketchup on a dog. I'd definitely go back

My friends and I stopped by for some good ole dogs in Downtown. The place is always packed with bar seating and a few tables, and some right in front of the grill. We went on a Friday, so it was packed and the server let me know that there's additional seating downstairs! Their list of hot dogs are precise, so you're not going to find a build your own. However, the options are phenomenal. I got the Santa Fe, and it was so interesting to have salsa and guacamole on a hot dog! My friends got the Tennessee Coleslaw and Philly cheesesteak, and they were are all hits! Best part of our visit was the service! They made sure we got our table in the long line. City Dogs is the place where you can find cheap and glorified hot dogs. The place itself is a little crowded and limited in seating, but the food is worth it. First off, they have a fairly limited selection of beer. I think they had only like 5 on tap but it sufficed. As my friends and I were seated, we were greeted by a very friendly and comedic waiter. He was hilarious and heckled us in the best way possible. While there, I ordered a bold rock and the philly hot dog. The hot dog was amazing. Veggie Dogs! This is the first place I found that offers veggie "soy dogs" that actually taste great, you can order any of their hot dogs with a soy substitute. I ordered to-go so they were soggy when I got home but that was the only downside. The location is a bar type scene and I went on football sunday so it was crowded with screaming locals watching the games, could've been a cleaner place. Who doesn't love a good hot dog? This place definitely gets it right with their own batter for corn dog nuggets. I had the Cincinnati hot dog with chili and cheese. Hubby has the Honolulu hot dog which has pineapples, provolone cheese and bbq sauce and the Boston dog which had sauerkraut, relish and mustard.
