I've been fortunate to be going to Christo for years. He's a consummate professional who knows how to cut my unruly, thick curly hair. I wouldn't trust anyone else! Christo is also a fine, decent person who is a pleasure to talk to. The salon is beautiful too and designed with impeccable taste. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Loved the person attention I received from my experience at Christo in NYC recently. Lots of attention was give to MY particular curly hair and explanation of the Christo texturizing cut. I was particularly impressed that the owner spent time TEACHING me how to properly care for my hair myself. I knew I needed a curly hair cut, but that's all I knew. I didn't know what kind of cut would be best or how to make my hair not frizzy. I also have multiple textures in my hair and had no idea why or how to manage it. Mariana sat down and very patiently talked with me about what she suggests to do. I trusted her and we went on with the appointment, in which she talked with me through the entire appointment, telling me step-by-step what she was doing and why. She showed me how to properly manage my hair and had me practice applying product. She also sat with me afterwards and wrote out a care plan as well as recommended products.Guys, I walked out of there with my hair looking healthier than I've ever seen in my life. I have never been so happy with my hair! I've gotten my hair cut here twice, each time with Mariana. The first time I got my hair cut, she taught me how to style and manage my naturally wavy hair, and I can recreate the pretty, non-frizzy, waves I had upon leaving the salon by using the techniques she taught me. I find the techniques here suit my hair more so that tradition curly-hair techniques, so I highly recommend checking out their instructions option on the salon menu service if you are having trouble managing your wavy hair!!! FINALLY! A salon capable of cutting my very difficult curly hair! After going to salonist after salonist who said they were pros at curly hair and crying my eyes out or having to put my hair up in a bun every time I decided to spend a little more and go to Christos. It was worth the one hour train ride into the city and every penny I spent. My first visit was on September 27th. Mariana spent hours with me, first examining and getting to know my hair, then correcting the color, then finding the cut I would be happy with and finally teaching me how to style it myself. I came out an entirely different person but most importantly I continue to be happy because the cut was GREAT and I am able to continue styling it myself. What REALLY got me was the fact that Mariana immediately realized that the back lower portion of my hair fell with less curl than the rest of my head and adjusted the cut accordingly. Every other salonist I explained this to thought I was insane and the cut they gave me left me with a tail!!! Everyone at the salon is friendly and even Christo himself came over to say hello and chatted a bit! My entire experience was simply incredible and I am planning to make my second appointment soon, this time with my daughter! Oh! And the curlisto products do wonders for my hair!!! Christo is absolutely wonderful! I was a little lost with my curly hair. I always wore a bun because it was so unmanageable and frizzy. It’s the first time I’m wearing my hair out. The really fantastic part is he cares about his clients, he explained in detail (so surprising!) how to work my curls when I got home. He even let me take a video, and that was incredibly helpful! I am still each day since leaving the salon waking up extremely happy about my ultimate hair experience. My haircut is fabulous. Especially, considering that I was still recovering from the worst hair cut I had ever had. The hair products are incredible. My natural curly hair is soft, yet able to resist the humidity. They are absolutely the best hair products I have ever used. And over the course of 35 years as an adult I have used many. I did not expect Christo to be so down to earth but he was. I came here for myself and my son in August and I still like my cut and so does my teenage son. I have never had my hair not be frizzy in a humid climate and his product made my hair look good in humidity. I did like that he trained you how to do your own hair and had you practice a little bit which helped. The product really works better for me than the diva curl product. I feel like Christo's product really changed the texture of my hair to make it more smooth and less frizzy. I wish I could come more often but I live out of state and it is the most I have ever spent on a haircut. Nevertheless I really enjoyed the whole experience. What can I say about Christo other than he changed my life? Before coming, my curly hair was a source of frustration. But Christo cut my hair so it would look amazing CURLY — the way it’s supposed to be. But the biggest game changer is the bio-softening treatment. Idk what sorcery it is, but it gets rid of all those little baby hairs at the front of my head that stick straight up (you know what I mean)! I get it done every six months or so and don’t have to worry about slathering my baby hairs with gel. Everyone who works at the salon is a delight. And being here is an oasis from the city. I rarely write reviews, but I had to after my amazing experience here. First of all, the receptionist was so sweet and kind, even when i was scheduling my appointment, giving me multiple appointment options and explaining the different prices to me. I had my hair cut by Alice who listened intently as I described my hair concerns and wants. She explained ways I can improve my hair and get the desired look I want without pushing the salon's products on me. She was very knowledgeable about curly hair and gave me a fantastic cut. When she put me under the hair dryer to dry, she checked on me every 5 minutes. When everything was done, my hair looked fantastic! And for the first time in about 10 years, I walked out of the salon loving my hair. I wound up buying some products because I just loved how my hair looked so much. On top of it all, she sent me a handwritten note explaining my hair "prescription". Before Alice, I would immediately tie my frizzy hair back after a cut and run home to wash and style it myself! I tried all of the expensive curly girl salons and paid stupid amounts of money for bad cuts and have products forced on me. No more! Attention curly girls! Are you having trouble taming your curls? This is the salon for you. I've spent years hating my curls. Mostly because I didn't know how to tame them and make them look nice. That all changed after my first visit to this salon.  Your first appointment includes a consultation where you and your stylist discuss your hair and what treatments are best.  Next is when the magic happens.  You are cut and styled by one of the stylists.  The final moment is when you see yourself for the first time and you realize how truly beautiful curls can be.  This was my first experience at the salon.  That was over 8 years ago.  I ALWAYS feel like a princess after leaving the salon.  That is due to my amazing stylist, Alice and the Curlisto hair products used by the salon.  The salon goes above and beyond by also teaching you how to maintain your curls.  You can schedule a training session or watch the styling videos on the website.  I highly recommend the videos even if you don't have an opportunity to visit the salon. So let's talk details.  There are several levels of stylist which will determine the overall price.  I personally use a master stylist.  The hair services are what you would expect at any other hair salon, cuts, color, conditioning treatments, blow outs, special up do styling.  The salon has it's own product line.  It is a bit pricey but totally worth it and you can order online.  The salon itself is clean and modern.  The staff are always polite, attentive and professional.  I don't give 5 stars that often but this salon deserves it!  Check out the website for yourself christonyc.com. I have struggled with curly hair all of my adult life, unable to have any consistent outcome on a daily basis. I had resorted to flat ironing my hair, but that created more damage to my, already dry, frizzy hair. I had read about Christo's salon in New York, and on a trip to the city, I was able to get an appointment with him. He changed my life! ummmmazing!  let me start to say the front desk was so nice to me and super professional. I had a very hectic week and I was running to the hair appt. But the minute I walked  in.. I was at ease.Now I am looking for a new person for my hair and I decided to do a full head balayage. Mariana was patient and took her time. I have tight curly hair, medium length. I had a  legit "Hair Emergency" having received a horrific cut from a stylist in Louisville, KY ("Oh, sure, Honey Lamb.. .I can cut curly hair real good", she crooned.  I left in tears. She gave me a straight across bob.) right before I was going on a trip to NYC. I read the reviews for Christo Fifth Avenue while I was on the tarmac getting ready to fly in to the city.  As luck would have it, I walked in the salon to book an appointment and Marianna just happened to have a cancellation.  She completely fixed the mess I walked in with and made my hair go back to it's fabulous, naturally curly state.  I'll be flying in again!!!!
