They have 30 30 coffee here which is always popular with every group I've gone with. The biscuits and gravy are also super popular but not my personal favorite. I love the eggs Benedict and all the omlettes! More...

Childers Eatery is a neat place to eat. We went for brunch and I appreciated the atmosphere. Upscale and very pretty with loads of flowers out front and nice decor. They didn't offer straws. Yay! I had the lemon blueberry French toast and it was delicious!! I ate every bite. It was topped with fresh berries and whipped cream and special syrup on the side. Will definitely order again. That and a cup of coffee with hazelnut creamer and it was a great meal. More...

My wife and I stopped in for breakfast Friday morning. I had the harissa eggs benedict with salmon. I'm not a breakfast guy, but this was by far the most unique AMAZINGLY flavorful thing I have ever had for breakfast. The chef did an absolute work of art on this creation! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!! The biscuits and gravy along with the bacon was really good as well. As for service, our waiter Andres was spot on, very polite and informative about the background of the restaurant thru small talk. Our bill was very reasonable and well worth every penny of it! Once again I highly recommend stopping by if you have an appetite for for something different with a great staff and atmosphere! Service was very good. I'm more of a simple type. Of meal person. These meals were not what I'm used to and didn't recognize more than half the items on the menu. I got breakfast skillet and that was really good. Kind of pricey for a skillet but good. More...

Good food to be certain, but a little on the pricey side.I had an omelette with hasbrowns and bread. It was a make your own omelette that was $6.99 before even adding anything in terms of toppings. Everything you added cost extra, so when all was said and done it cost about $12.I didn't go crazy on what I chose, so it was a little disheartening considering that's what you usually pay for an omelette meal WITH 5 or 6 ingredients. Overall, I would recommend their food, but I think I'd rather go to One World Cafe or June Bug's Diner. More...

Food was great, very gourmet. I had the began waffle. If you have a picky kid, let the waitress know while ordering. My girl didn't like the chocolate, cherries and whipped cream on her teddy bear pancake, so the waitress game her a plain pancake and didn't charge us for it. She was awesome

My mom and I decided to try Childers out because we are currently assisting my sister with wedding planning and she had selected Childers to be her caterer. Our first impression was that this place is a little on the small side.  We also ended up waiting quite a bit, first at the door and again after we were seated.  The place was very busy.We were definitely pleased with the menu.  My sister is vegetarian and there were several vegetarian-friendly items.  Even I was interested in trying a few of them.We ended up getting french toast (I think) and a frittata with steak.  Everything we had tasted amazing, but freshly squeezed juice was a little pricey, glad we also got water. Our waitress was very friendly, but obviously had several tables to take care of.  She was constantly rushing from table to table and seemed a little flustered.  We did notice a table or two that had been seated after we got their food and drinks before we did.  Could have been because we'd ordered specialty drinks, but did make us question why our section was so much busier than theirs. Delicious and busy.  We drove from Morton because of the reviews on Yelp! The cheddar biscuits were fantastic, moist, and flavorful. The gravy homemade and the peppered bacon, thick. What a modern restaurant should be! I can order a plant based entre and you can order your bacon soaked pancakes. Either way we are being served by professionally trained, polite and efficient staff. I just attended father's day lunch with my Dad at peak service time and the wait looked immense but we were seated within 15min, and were serviced and done within the hour. Exemplary teamwork is the only thing that can get a restaurant to this place so my complements to the managers as well as the chefs.

As far as interesting food goes. They are spot on modern trends without thinking it's a premium to serve healthy food. A superfood Benedict is a great example of a dish laced with all the nutritional needs and tastes of a vegetarian, with a familiar nod to the English traditional staple. Sauteed kale isn't a common task for chefs dispute it's health benefits and while I have probably ordered 20 or more of these dishes I have never been served kale that had to be sent back to be cooked properly. When can you say that about your meat? Well trained chefs and great food.

Childers is a modern American restaurant which would fit in, within any city or suburb of Illinois.  The decore is bright and modern. The tables and chairs are solid, no wobbly old stuff here. The coffee was tasty.  The setup was pre packaged, and that is a shame because it would up their coffee game doing fresh cream and sugar in the raw.  The cups were mix and match which I like.  That gives it a homey feel. The staff was warm, comley and welcoming.  Any time the waitress lets you know their name and says just let me know if you need anything it is a sign of good service.  The biscuits were fresh made this morning.  The gravy was tasty with chives and sausage.  It was light in color but the did not skimp on it.  The flavor it not traditional, but it was good.  A full order is 3 biscuits split in 1/2 so note that.  I order the eggs over easy on top and they also came out perfectly.  The whole order was put in via a pad computer so that adds to the modern decor. The bacon was over done and fairly thin cuts, so I would skip that next time.  Overall this is a great place in p-town that I would come back to.  I think I will try the eggs benidict next time as they also looked good. I've never had anything I haven't absolutely loved.  So many good things you cannot go wrong.  The bacon pops and the horseshoe are both amazing.  My wife loves the tenderloin.  Really the most enjoyable is the breakfast food though, numerous types of eggs benedict and great waffles (much better than the paper thin one you get at one world.) I'm not the biggest egg eater, but my husband usually gets omlettes here.  I've tried them and they are very good.  I just looked at the menu to jog my memory, and I noticed they don't have their fresh juices on here anymore. Visited this place as a spur of the moment decision on a Saturday, early afternoon for the first time about two months ago and there was no wait the staff was very friendly and courteous, the setting was very nice -clean fresh flowers on the table, i was further impressed by the small slice of cucumber in the water also the fact that they serve fresh leaf tea in many different selections was very impressive as well. We ordered from the breakfast menu and the food was absolutely amazing!!! I had the eggs Benedict Diablo and my fiancé had the skillet meal we shared pancakes and I have to say hands-down they were the best in the area we just went back last weekend to take my son and my review still stands my son had the Horshoe burger and raspberry lemonade and both were very fresh and delicious I would recommend this place to anyone!!!! First time here last weekend and it was fantastic!  We went on a Sunday around 11 and our wait was about 10 min.  The "waiting area" is a little tight but since the line moved so much it wasn't too bad.  The food was worth the wait.  I got the supreme omelet, came with  a lot of fresh veggies, meats and some cheese.  It was big, I think the menu said they use 3 eggs.  I like my has browns a little crispier, which they accommodated and came out perfectly.  The biscuits and gravy were delicious.  The gravy is a sausage gravy which isn't too salty!  The biscuits were buttery and fluffy.  For as busy as they were, service was pretty on point.  Everyone - hostess, waitress, runner and bussers - were all GREAT!  Highly recommend visiting this place! Childers is a hidden gem and the best breakfast in Peoria! The environment, menu choices, and service are all incredible! We got the bacon broccoli Gouda omelette and Nutella banana French toast, and it was all perfect! Solid breakfast/brunch spot.  We got the 'Peoria's best breakfast' and the berry lemon poppy seed french toast.  French toast was excellent.  Sausage gravy was really good.  Scrambled eggs were just ok.  Can't wait to return to try the benedicts and breakfast quesadilla!  We can already tell this will be a favorite spot. We had breakfast here this morning, they were very busy.We were seated right away though, I had smoked salmon eggs benedict, my wife had their egg benedict de mere ( crab, avocado and citrus spiked hollandaise) my son had french taost and my daughter a waffle. My smoked salmon benedict was good..with lots of roasted tomatoes, a decent amount of salmon, the eggs were perfectly poached. I had the cottage fries with it. They werent greasy and tasted good.My wifes crab benedict was good..the citrus hollandaise was a little strong. The crab and avocado seemed to diminish with the brightly flavored hollandaise.Service was good and friendly...I asked for regular hollandaise instead of dijon hollandaise for my benedict and received it, and asked about a few side items..she answered my questions confidently and was enthusiastic to help.If I had one complaint it would be the lack of real estate on the table...there were so many condiments and creamers etc...by the time you add a carafe of water, 4 water glasses, silverware etc theres very little room. The food and service was very good however, and when we return to visit family in Peoria, we would certainly return. Childers is one of those restaurants that doesn't look...open when you first pass by it. In fact, I found myself passing it whenever I was in the car and I paid no attention to it until I saw reviews on Yelp. I decided to give it a try when my boyfriend was in town and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere is cute and cozy, servers were friendly, and the food is absolutely delicious--perfect for breakfast! I can't wait to go again. The only thing I would change is the parking. It can get a little crowded/hectic making it difficult to navigate the lot. Other than that, Childers is a great spot in Peoria. More...

I'm so glad I finally live in a town with a decent breakfast restaurant (we just moved here a few months ago). I had the bikers breakfast with apple walnut pancakes, scrambled eggs, and bacon. So good! My husband had biscuits and gravy, eggs over easy, and bacon. He said he thought the gravy was a little sweet, but my father in law loved his. *GO HERE*  Absolutely loved this place! I travel a great deal for work and am always trying to find good local venues, over chain restaurants and this was one of the better diners I've visited. It's a smaller place and was packed this morning when I pulled up but I still was seated immediately. The waitress didn't let my coffee get lower than a few sips before she had me topped off again and that was something I really appreciated. However that was not to mean she was continually bothering is either.  It was simply supurb service despite being very busy! I had the Eggs Florentine which were delicious and a side of the Biscuits & Gravy which wasn't half bad either. I wish I could stay in town longer because I would definitely would return! More...

Every time I got to Chidlers', there is about a 15 or 20 minute wait. You can ask the hostess if you can see a menu and pick out what you would like to order. The wait staff is quick to take your order because they are busy. The waiters/waitresses are not very personal because they are so busy. My friend and I ordered the Diablo Eggs Benedict and the Lemon Blueberry French Toast. The eggs Benedict had chorizo (spicy sausage), avocados, some spicy sauce, and some hash browns. The combination of ingredients had just enough "kick" but it was not too spicy. The french toast was refreshing because it did not need any syrup. The lemon sauce had the consistency of a pudding and it was a tangy sweet. There were strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries on top with a light dusting of powdered sugar. Overall, Childers Eatery is a nice place to go for Brunch/Lunch. Be prepared to wait for awhile for good food. More...

Food - The Eggs Benedict were possibly the best I've ever had, which surprised me. I had the smoked salmon Benedict, my girlfriend had the diabolos Benedict, which she said was good but marred by the slightly soggy sourdough (gluten free option). I found the cottage fries to be really good as well.Coffee - typical diner coffee. Probably maxwell house or folgers. Fake creamers at the tables, which kind of sucks, but they at least had a flavor selection. Decor - not very much character. Large photos of food on the wall like a Denny's. Too much open space, basically one large room. Appreciated the cucumber water touch. So far the best food we have had in Peoria during our weekend stay here. Recommended. More...

I'm constantly on the search for a decent breakfast place, and I'm happy to say that my search ends here! Childer's Eatery is absolutely delightful! At my most recent visit, I went with 7 people, which is kind of a lot of people to collectively experience a great time. Luckily we called ahead and the wait time ended up being less than 10 minutes. Our waitress was superb and very accommodating and made our group's time there enjoyable. Paired with the excellent service, the food was outstanding! I had the Southwestern Omelette with Cottage Fries (kind of like hash browns but are fried potato slices sautéed with green peppers and onions--more flavorful) and a Fruit Cup. The omelette had all kinds of goodies, such as bell peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes all blanketed inside and was topped off with a few slices of (extremely green, blemish-free) avocado. I was beaming with happiness! A friend of mine who sat a seat down from me had the Chicken & Waffles and it looked so awesome! It was literally a Chicken & Waffle sandwich. We stopped at Childers based on yelp reviews. It was FANTASTIC! I ordered a build-your-own omelette with sweet bell peppers, roma tomatoes, and American cheese; the omelettes are made with 3 eggs. I also chose hash browns and wheat toast. My husband got a full order of biscuits & gravy (2 biscuits, opened up to 4 halves), hash browns, and sausage. He ordered orange juice and was offered regular or hand-squeezed. He chose the hand-squeezed and it was SO delicious!!!I also enjoyed that our server offered a choice of two different types of hot sauces. Our service was great, and our food came out quickly!!!Based on info I read in Childers' yelp profile, the founder is Edward and now his son, Ryan, has taken over the restaurant. I am 99.9% sure that both Edward and Ryan were in the restaurant when we were. Edward checked on all the tables towards the beginning of our visit, and then once again as we were finishing up our meals. The decòr inside was fresh and happy, and there were also fresh flowers on each table. If you're passing through Peoria and looking for good breakfast food, definitely stop here! When it comes to brunch in Peoria, good options are few and far between. Sure, you could hit up one of the big chains to get your fill, but you have a more discerning palate. So you decide to try a local place...and find that it's slim pickings. Childers stands out as one of the best among the limited options. If I were simply reviewing based on what else is available for brunch options, I would give Childers 5 stars, but since I've eaten all over the country at some incredible places, I'm going with 4 stars. The pricing is good, and the eats are tasty. My omelette felt healthy while filling me up. Looking around at the other plates, it appears that the cooks go easy on the oil and fried stuff, making their food one of the better options from a health standpoint as well. All in all, Childers is a solid place for a good meal. I'll be back next time I find myself in Peoria. More...

yeah.. totally deserves a perf review. In the morning i typically crave savory bloody mary's before thinking of pancakes or waffles. This place had a lot of meaty brunch entrees. Even the few honest mistakes the waitress made were easily corrected. it was pretty crowded, but the food did not take any longer than expected. i ordered a loose leaf tea and the waitress recommended the orange flavor, it was very minty and is served in a mini pitcher that hovers over your cup, and miraculously drops water out the bottom. It's so mind-blowing and i have no way to describe it.Homies Ryan and Brad ordered the Orange juice which was served extra frothy; one liked it, the other wasn't a fan,  The sausage gravy on the biscuits and gravy is like a thick soup. Eat it with a spoon and put it on everything, Please! The breakfast quesadilla was an amazing Mexican pizza. Huge portion and the pico de gillo was soo fresh!i got something called the Lil Neptune which was a legit crab cake omelet with hollindaise. i speculate the the "Neptune" name is in reference to Virginia beach, where there is a stature of Greek god Neptune or something. this place would Succeed in Chicago or any big city. it is amazing. Seriously great. Peoria's food scene is generally lacking. What a find to discover culinary creativity at a American style eatery! Breakfast features real gravy. Real hollandaise. One of the few breakfast menus that includes vegetables, and fresh ones grown at site at that! (Yes, veggies for breakfast is a good thing). Coffee is strong.Lunch sandwiches are just plain good. Very well seasoned pork in the Cuban sandwich, borderline salty. But very good. Water comes with cucumber slice. Nice touch. Quite refreshing. The gist of this is you get great fresh food in a genre characterized by prefab mixes, grease, and meh. Cheers to American food done right. More...

Childers has one of the best breakfast menus I've ever seen! It makes me wish I visited Peoria more often so I'd have a chance to try almost all their tasty dishes. I loved the Lil' Neptune omelet made with real lump crab meat, while my husband enjoyed the caramel apple pancakes. Everything on the menu sounded fantastic, & the dishes we saw on other tables looked amazing. Creative & tasty breakfast cuisine is often difficult to find, and Childers really delivers it! From their lemon poppyseed French toast, s'mores pancakes, & 6 different kinds of eggs Benedict ... Childers makes it difficult to choose what to order. Childer's Eatery is a subtle diner-looking place over on University across from the Walmart.  The good:    I ordered the Southwestern Omelet, which is made with chorizo, peppers, cheddar, AVOCADO, and salsa.  Yes, avocado is in all caps...it makes the meal.  And I had their cottage fries, which are served with peppers and onions, and also whole wheat toast, with a side of Gouda Cheese Sauce (for dipping). The bad:  Over the years, I have (unfortunately) become somewhat of a coffee snob, due primarily to places like 30-30, Leaves & Beans, and Coffee Hound, which roast their own beans.  The coffee is not mediocre.  It's bad.  If they started to serve 30-30 beans, they would be bumped to that 5th star. The ugly:  It's an unassuming diner atmosphere, which is okay, but with the quality of food, it doesn't really match.Summary:  There is so much flavor in this food. This will certainly be a consistent option while going out for breakfast.  I want to go back for lunch, where the bad coffee won't matter.  Definitely check it out. More...
