We saw the review on "Check, Please!" but just never made there until last night. We went in for an early dinner. We walked straight to the bar and seated ourselves, not realizing there was a host by the door. There wasn't a bartender so, after a few minutes, I looked around for a server. I noticed the host and we made eyes contact but he just looked at me. We finally got the menu and ordered chicken chili masala and veg momo. Both were good. Waiter was good. Price was reasonable. I’ve been looking for a good quality Indian food and you don’t know how grateful I am to have found this restaurant. I ordered Palak Paneer and garlic and potato naan, all of which I’ve been craving for awhile. The food was fresh, delicious and satisfying - I wanted to keep eating it the next day. The only little thing I wish was a little better was the naan - it seemed thinner and rougher. But not too much, it was still delicious. I’m not from Chicago, but if I do come here again I’m definitely eating at this restaurant again. More...

Thought the food here was very good. I read some reviews about the food not being spicy enough, but that’s a plus for me. Brought our three kids here (6,4 and 2) and seemed very family friendly (our kids are no angels). Highlights for us were the butter chicken and samosas. Yum! More...

The first thing i noticed was the food was very fresh. I had the lunch buffet on a sunday and it was delicious. Nice variety of items, lots of flavor and very fresh. The restaurant is also very clean and well decorated. Buffet is 11-3 and cost $13.95. I would definitely go back and recommend it. More...

Ya know, some mornings you wake up, and you just want to lay in bed all day. Somehow your calendar's empty, and you're ready to fill that time with naps. And there's no better way to knock out than with a tummy full of curry and naan, and Chicago Curry House is perfect for that. When you want all you can eat (at least during lunch hours), there really aren't any other options in the South Loop, but thankfully it's a good one. There's soup, samosas, naan, tandoori chicken, and a whole lot of curries. You can try and keep it healthy by staying vegetarian, or go all in on the chicken tikka. The selection isn't huge, and missing some things you might find at other Indian buffets in the city like goat/lamb or biryani. Also the dessert selection isn't great here either. But I'll still give this place a good rating for location and a decent price for the buffet. Service is good as far as buffet service goes, and I've never run into an issue with empty trays for too long. And the food quality itself is pretty good, especially when you have a craving for Indian food. I'm always happy to go, provided I can carve out some workout time later that day...or maybe the next day. Sometimes that's ok too. More...

I didn’t love the slow service that I received, with it being a fairly slow Saturday evening in the restaurant. The pakora were good, but I felt like the chaana saag could have been tastier. Lamb samosas are great, always get chicken briani and kadhai lamb   lamb is always fresh u can adjust the spiciness level for most of the dishes, I like a little more spicy. I'd never eaten Indian food before coming here, and I still can't tell you the name of anything that I ate. But what I do know is that it was VERY good.We did the buffet, which is small but has plenty of options. There's also a lot of vegetarian-friendly dishes, which I didn't expect. If you're not used to spicy food, I am warning you that the food is pretty spicy. And this is coming from someone who carries a bottle of Tabasco with her to every restaurant. There aren't really any dessert option included in the buffet. But trust me, you'll probably be too full for desert anyway.Servers bring naan to your table, and plates are near the buffet.I would give it 5 stars, but the service is pretty bad. The only interaction we had with our server was 1.) him seating us and 2.) him taking our drink order. But he never came back around with drinks. And the restaurant was half empty. We had to ask the busboy for drinks and naan. More...

I have often walked by this place getting a whiff of the delicious scent coming out of the place. I am a big fan of Indian and Napalese cuisine so its only right that I finally stopped by after living in the area for 3 years and walking by it for longer than that. I stopped in this past Saturday evening for pickup as I was craving it after smelling it for the umpteenth time! Called in my order while walking from the nearby Trader Joes. I waked in and grabbed a seat at the bar while I waited maybe 7 minutes for the goodies. I ordered lamb samosas, Khasi Ko Maasu (goat meat with bone) and garlic naan. My meal was very good and better the expected as Ive heard mix reviews of this place. The lamb mimosas were very good of course equipped with tamarind and mint cilantro chutney. The goat was very delicious and slipped right off of the bone...packed with lots of flavor!!!I see myself paying more visits here!!! More...

Had dinner there last night with two other friends. Place seemed to be empty, taking in consideration it was a Friday night. Ambience wasn't great: paper table cloth, some basic arts around. However, food, food was fantastic. We had garlic and tomato naans (very delicious), chicken makhani and chicken tikka. Everything was fresh and flavors were very complex and strong. Super enjoyable! Great buffet, and good selection, with something for everyone's palate - which can be hard to do going out to lunch with colleagues! A couple of cold options, as well as hot. It wasn't as curry crazy as the name may have you believe, and there are plenty of other flavor options if you want something more along the lines of a saffron or ginger. Full bar if you are in the mood for some drinks. Would definitely go back again next time I'm in the South Loop. More...

My finance and I have had Chicago Curry House many times, usually we order for take out. The order is always already on time and it hot and fresh! As compared to many of the other Indian restaurants in Chicago, the prices are pretty reasonable.Today we ordered Chicken Vindaloo which came with rice. We also ordered raita and the vegetarian pakoray. If you like a little kick to your food you should definitely try this dish. It was not too greasy or overdone with the different spices like I usually find with ordering at Indian restaurants. The vegetarian pakoray are also one of my favourite things to order from here, they are very crisp and flavourful. Being Indian the expectations are high for Indian restaurants and Chicago Curry House does not disappoint! More...

I really liked Chicago Curry House. I enjoy eating Nepalese food, and they have a few items that are more Nepalese than Indian. The service was a little weird that night, but they also had a gigantic party seated in the middle of the restaurant that likely contributed to any hiccups. Chicago Curry House has a full bar, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options, and they get the flavor right on their dishes, and decent prices. My only complaint is that they have TVs up in the dining room that are all playing news channels. It would really be better to just turn them off! We will definitely be back to try some different dishes. More...

It was tricky finding parking at first because it's surrounded by residential roads, but once we got there we had a decent buffet lunch. We were excited  and surprised that they had samosas and goat curry but missed gulab jamun and jalebi when it came to dessert. The mango lassis were tasty and just the right size. Service was friendly and prompt. I was just mentioning that I was hoping they had naan a minute before our waiter brought a basket out, so I'm not sure if he had overheard us or that naan is always included. There were lots of varieties of curry, including goat and butter chicken. They bring the naan to the table so it's nice and warm and has some crisp to it, which was delicious. I have never eaten at the resteraunt but have ordered for pickup on a number of occasions. The food is delicious, which initially surprised me due to the lack of good quality Indian food in Chicago. The lamb curry and Chicken Saag are two of my favorite dishes here. Two things to keep in mind: 1) The portions are not very large, but trust me they are filling 2) The food here is VERY spicy. Decent buffet on the smaller side with an emphasis on vegetarian dishes (1 goat curry, 1 chicken curry, Tandoori chicken) . I expected more curries to be served - considering their name. The food is less greasy and spicy than the usually more Southern-influenced Indian buffets, which is expected for Northern Indian and Nepalese cuisine. The place is silent, clean, and cozy. I ate dinner on a not busy Tuesday afternoon. Locating the place is difficult unless you are looking for it. Entering into the restaurant, there is a busy looking desk to the left with a waiter, a bar in the middle of the room ahead, and tables on each side, half with window seats. Looked like a locally owned place, but still looked good. I ordered the Non-Vegetarian Bhojan Nepalese Style Special Dinner. Since this had a small amount of every dish, this review will be a bit lengthy. At first I got a bowl of naan with three sauces. Two Indian sauces and one Nepalese. Sauces vary greatly in flavor so there's a good chance you'll like one of them. Served similarly to chips and salsa, and was complimentary. The special dinner came with multiple small plates of the different menu items surrounding a plate of rice. I ate this alone, but do note that this meal item has enough food for two people, unless you both enjoy one of the small plates too much to share.Counter-clockwise from the bottom left of my picture. Khasi Ko Maasu - Lamb dish. Very nice flavors. Meat was nicely soaked in the sauce. Probably my favorite dish. It is served slightly spicy. It is also bone-in, but bones were large and easy to remove. I ate this with the rice. Kukhura Ko Maasu - Chicken dish. Very nice flavors, similar to above but not spicy. Meat was nicely soaked in the sauce and came out fairly soft. My one complaint here was it is served bone-in, and some of the bones might be difficult to spot. I ate this with the rice. Aloo Tama Bodi - Warm potato dish. I didn't completely finish this one because of the amount of food. Fairly mashed consistency, with probably the most foreign flavors. I ate this with the rice. Jhane Ko Dal - Lentil dish. Pretty good flavors. Not my favorite lentil dish, but it adds a nice compliment to the rest of the flavors. I kept coming back to this between other dishes. Aloo Ra Seemi Ko Tarkari - Potato salad dish. Tastes like a regular potato salad with a special blend of vegetables and seasoning. Was good but didn't really flow with the rest of the dishes, probably because it wasn't warm. Kheer - Rice dessert dish, served cold. Fairly typical sweetened rice desserts, tasted good. Impressed that dessert came with this meal. All served with a yogurt sauce (tasted good but wasn't sure which dish it went with. I mostly dipped my bread in it) and basmati rice. Rice wasn't enough to pair with all the food, but the restaurant brought out a second plate of rice when asked. As for the picture, the spoon is large and the small dishes look small. However, each dish and half the rice easily filled a plate and easily could've been split into two small plate portions. Very satisfied with the meal. I can't speak to how authentic this food was, but the flavors tasted knowledgeable. More...

I can't help thinking that Chicago Curry House is so good because the people who work there really seem to care about the quality of their service, and food. Courtesy is the operative word here in this quiet, well-staffed and very flavorful dining experience. We had the chicken soup, garlic nan, and Lamb Seekh Kabab, which were all done to perfection. Their web site offers a 10% discount coupon too.  In the South Loop where bar food seems to be flooding the neighborhood, it's nice to have this very comfortable, authentic restaurant offering better fare than burgers, pizza, and wings. The food here is honestly the best Indian you can get in the Chicago Loop area. I've ordered delivery here once and dined in the other time, and both times have gone well. The delivery was on time, the food was packaged well (nothing was leaking or dripping off the sides) and the food temperature was perfect. The dine-in experience was also very pleasant. Even though my boyfriend and I had no reservations and the restaurant was packed on a Saturday evening, the host made sure to seat us down in less than 10 minutes. The waiters and waitresses are very alert, very polite and extremely professional. This will always be my go to Indian place. Keep up the good work. More...

My favorite place for Indian and Nepalese food whether for dining in or carry out. I live close to Nepal House, which shares the same owner, but the food is better here so I make the further trip. The naan here is the best! It's actually fluffy and and tasty be it plain, garlic, or masala. I usually judge a place by its naan skills and most miss the mark, but this place is different! Next favourite, is the samosas! The texture of the dough covering is perfect and the filling is filling and tasty. I'm a vegetarian and I have yet to find an entree that I disagree with! We moved into the neighborhood at the beginning of the summer and Chicago Curry House has become our go-to restaurant for dining in and take-out.  The naan is phenomenally soft and the Kashmiri naan is generously filled.  The food can be a bit spicy (even the stuff that says mild), but the staff has always been very accommodating of any requests to tone down the spiciness.  The lunch buffet tends to be less spicy and has a large variety of items.  The chicken and lamb in the curries are slow-cooked (I think) and fall apart in your mouth.  As others have noted, the service is wonderful, and we'd only visited twice before the owner started to recognize us.  All in all, we've only had good experiences and it's great to have a reliably good restaurant just across the street. Can't really comment on the restaurant itself since I got their food delivered. The food itself was excellent.  Got tandoori chicken, the basmati rice and a sauce that came with it, vegetable samosas, and an order of naan.  I like that you can choose your spice levels. I got it on the mild side since I was sharing with someone who doesn't like a lot of spice.  She was comfortable with it, and it still had enough spice and seasoning to keep me interested. The naan was perfectly cooked. The sauce that came with it reminded me of a mildly spicy tomato soup and had good flavor.  Samosas (2) were a good size and I enjoyed both the pastry and the potatoes, peas and seasoning in it. They came with a couple of sauces that I think were a tamarind and something with mint. I would either order from them again or maybe one day drop by the restaurant, and I would try something different. More...

It's mildly spicy, rich with spices and thick unlike some other places I've tried where it can be very watery. The Makhni dish is also good and very similar in flavor to the tikka masala but the spice levels seem to be stronger. Their garlic naan is fluffy and comes out hot and fresh but for those that don't want garlic breath their plain naan is just as fluffy as well! I was very surprised to find this South Loop mainstay mostly empty on a weeknight. It is admittedly a bit hidden, but it's very sold Indian food. I got the lamb tikka masala, done spicy. It was excellent - an interesting take on classic comfort food. The standard naan was good but not as flavorful as my main (and the waiter appeared to have forgotten that we had ordered it). Chicago Curry House is honestly an amazing place for lunch during the weekdays. The buffet is amongst one of the better ones offered in Chicago with a variety of options that are also of excellent quality. No complaints of the service, they do their part and ensure you're comfortable.I've only had one bad experience when an entire tour bus of people suddenly poured in and there was a super long line to get some food. The staff were clearly struggling to manage it and a lot of the options were quickly exhausted (despite the fact that the restaurant knew they were coming, multiple tables were put on reserve). If the restaurant knew there was gonna be so many people they should have made further accommodations.Otherwise, my family and I absolutely love Chicago Curry House! I ordered take out twice via their official website. The food was ready by 30 minutes as promised. The garlic nan is so wonderful, fluffy and flavorful. The staff was friendly and was able to adjust the bill (10% off if you check in on yelp!). The atmosphere is very romantic and there is plenty of seating. The food was a little spicy, but well seasoned. I am not accustomed to spicy foods so it's a great idea to order the mango lassi to help cool the tingling tongue! Overall I was able to enjoy the food. The eggplant on the vegetarian menu is not spicy and brings a slightly sweet blend to the meal. The creamed spinach is delicious and a wonderful way to get your daily iron in like Pop Eye the Sailor man! The vegetarian samosas are great! Each order of it comes as two large samosas and the sauces that accompany it really complete the taste profile. The entrees come with generous helpings of basmati rice. Truth be told, anyone who lives in Chicago knows you go to Devon for quality Indian food. But for a person (like me) who lives in the loop, this place is a much shorter travel time without compromising on quality. The atmosphere is great (read: comfortable and versatile) I could eat here in jeans and a T-shirt or I could come for a nice date. When you walk in they don't rush to seat you but they notice you're then within the first few minutes and they end up letting you sit where you want anyway. The FOOD is amazing. Before you order they bring you a basket of large thin Mediterranean crackers and a few sauces- it's almost as exciting as when you get chips and salsa at a Latino restaurant. My go-to's on the menu:Appetizer: Vegetable MoMo (which are actually Nepali)- I'm a meat lover but the spices and texture make me question my devotion to meat. But only briefly. Naan: Yes this gets its own category. GARLIC NAAN ALL THE WAY. Entree: Curry House Non-Vegetarian Special Dinner- PERFECT to split with another person, and you get to basically try all the best Indian entrees Chicago Curry House has to offer. It also comes with a plate of white Basmati rice that they will gladly refill for you (without charging you extra!)Post-meal drink: Masala Chai. Such good chai with milk and spices. You can add sugar as you please. Dessert: The Mango Lassi is kind of like a mango smoothie with yogurt. It is EXTREMELY mango-y and sweet, and is meant to help with digestion.  Bathroom is beautiful and always clean. My only complaint is that the waiters are a little awkward and sometimes service is slow. But it hasn't painted my opinion of the place. Furthermore, the last time I went my friend and had a very pleasant conversation with the owner. Love this place. More...

There's always a good selection, and plenty of vegetarian options. Hot, cold, spicy, mild, fried, or fresh, you can try it all. One trip to the buffet usually gives me about 3 meals worth of food. The workers are also extremely friendly, and have discounted our meals multiple times for being repeat customers. Overall, a great place that I wish I could visit more often! More...

I recently had food here & I really liked it. If u guys happen to be here, then try mutton kadahi with garlic naan trust me its mouth watering. The only flaw i noticed is with samosa, the outer skin could have been softer but it tasted really good. The servers were very nice and took order accordingly.   The food was brought with in few mins not much waiting. The ambience was very soothing and calm. You can plan a Perfect dinner with your special one. And yes dont forget to try mango lassi for deserts. Enjoy :D More...

We ordered delivery for a large group, so we got 50% of the menu. Overall, the food was good and not too spicy. I will definitely order from them again.Only improvement that they need to make is to write on each container what's inside, we were busy guessing what's in the box. Packing wasnt the best especially for the samosas, and they didn't send us forks even though we asked from them. More...

Fantastic food! For vegetarians, the palek paneer is my favorite, rich and flavorful, so filling. Non-veg, I suggest trying the lamb seekh kabab and chicken vindaloo. Everything is fresh and pretty authentic, served in gracious servings. I have never been to the restaurant which I plan on doing soon, but I can say that their delivery is amazing! I have nothing but great things to say about the food - about once a month I treat myself and splurge. Completely comforting and delicious!!! I usually write reviews because I'm angry about a restaurant that doesn't meet the minimum bar. I'm making an exception with CCH because they have consistently brought me so much gustatory pleasure. I walk by this place everyday .Sometimes twice a day when I'm walking my dogs, and there is nothing that gets your stomach growling like the smell of Indian spices.  I don't claim to know much about Indian food.  Ask me the difference between a Vindaloo sauce and a Tikka Masala and you'll be greeted with the same look my dogs give me when I talk to them.  I am, however, a doctor.  So I got that going for me.  Take my review for what you will.  Where do I start?  The restaurant is bigger on the inside than it looks.  It's a bit tucked away being off Plymouth in a neighborhood, and there isn't much for parking in the area.  The inside of the restaurant is pretty stereotypical for an ethnic restaurant.  They got a large buffet section if you come for lunch, and it sounds like it's a pretty good deal.  I haven't tried the buffet yet, so I'll save that for my next review.  We started with a Flying Horse beer to share.  They have your typical Indian tourist beers too: Kingfisher,Taj Mahal, and Flying Horse.  They all pretty much taste the same.  They are the equivalent of Bud light in the states.  But you know, its from India so it tastes better with Indian food.  The food is as follows:Chicken Momo: Nepalese chicken dumplings.  The meat was dry, and not overly tasty.  I wouldn't order it again.Vegetable Samosas: A nice fry on the outside, not oily at all, but a bit too much dough.  The filling was good, and for $4.95, not a bad dealButter Chicken: fantastic.  I love butter chicken, and Chicago curry house does not disappoint.   Sweet and creamy and spicy.  Everything a good butter chicken should be.  Your taste buds will be pleased.Naan: Nothing beats good naan, and they do it right.  I could almost make a meal out of naan, I probably would if my girlfriend wouldn't get mad at me.The service was great too.  Everyone was very polite, and the wait time was very reasonable.   The prices are a bit high to me (I've just moved to this city), but I don't think they're unusual for Chicago. I am a fussy eater when it comes to desi (read: South Asian) food. Ate the brunch here. And  very happy.Slightly relieved too. Finally I found a place where they cook with minimal oil, and they understand light flavours...probably has to do with the Nepalese/ NE Indian palate. Now for the specifics. The Farsi green beans in a light light light coconut curry  were lovely. The gobi (cauliflower) and bhindi (lady finger) pakoras are great too...as is the green chutney that goes with it. The yoghurt was slightly sour. The Jhane Ko dal was lovely too. Palak paneer is more Palak than paneer which is how I like it, but paneer needs to melt in your mouth darlings, which it barely does. It needs to be cooked into the Palak so that they don't taste as separate items. The chicken makhani is exactly the way everyone I know loves it. Papad could be fresher. The kheer needs some sprucing - dry fruits and  caramelising. Mutton needs to be tender but the curry was lovely and had the least amount of oil used to cook all mutton dishes I have eaten outside. Other desi restaurants,  are you watching?! More...

OMGosh it's ok that you think you hate curry--thick and yellow and yuck--but you're a fool to not come here.Get your "geosocial" head out of its dark place and prepare for a soul-awakening level of spice of one of the 1000's and 1000's of combinations in addition to those choices that overtly include curry. Vegetarian dishes are a specialty here, and the meat flies off the bone too. The menu is rich in choice and clarity, with sweet Indian Customer Service rarely experienced this side of the Pacific Ocean. Eat here. Take a chance. Be brave. Don't stay stuck. As others have said, and this is a very strange fact, this restaurant smells good from the OUTSIDE. As friends were walking me here for the first time, I knew we were almost there by the terrific aroma of Indian food. This dissipates inside, because obviously vents direct the great aromas out of doors. Inside there is a comfortable arrangement of tables and booths, and I found the service to be friendly indeed. I won't say the menu breaks any new ground for frequent diners on Indian cuisine, but all the favorites are here, and in my experience well prepared. The samosas were delicious, and so was the nan. Lamb saag (with spinach) was tasty and prepared to the exact degree of spiciness I requested. My friend Phil's buttery chicken was just great. Others had shrimp and chicken vindaloo and they were pleased. I prefer aloo paratha with much more potato stuffing, and they were out of mango chutney, but these are small things. I seriously love this place. It smells so good when you walk by that you absolutely must eat there. It never seems to be too busy. And I've been a fan of pretty much all of the dishes, except I wasn't as impressed by the Lamb Vindaloo as I have been at other establishments (although those places are no where near Chicago), and I tried a cauliflower dish I probably wouldn't order again but just because there were better options. The meal is very shareable, so come with a group a order a bunch. I particularly like the Jhane Ko Dal, any of the Paneer, any of the spinach dishes, the Baigan Bharta, and the Butter Chicken. The Chicken Biryani is also spectacular. And don't forget the garlic naan. More...

Entering there is a bar with the tables located on either side. The menu consists of a selection of Indian and Nepalese dishes with a good selection of vegetarian options. We opted for a selection of appetizers, including onion bhajis (yum), veggie momo's (meh), bhel poori (delicious), a garlic man and a lamb dish for my friend (He loved it). This place was very good, food was tasty and service was on point. There is really nothing negative to say. The environment is a bit library like, a little too quiet for me with soothing Nepalese music in background. I live in Rogers Park so I'm used to the lively Indian/Pakistani restaurants. I had the Non Veg Bhojay which gave me a good sample of the Nepalese entrees. Super tasty. The Lamb was ok, I've had extremely good lamb at a Serbian place so I know what it should be like if really cooked well. I did not have dessert but the coffee was great.  I wouldn't mind going again if I was in the area but wouldn't make the trip from the Northside just to dine there. More...

We went in earlier than our scheduled time but the host was able to find us seats and did make aware that it is a busy night and it might take awhile for us to get serviced so we were prepared. After we sat down we waited a bit and ordered, ther server was friendly and he did something amazing.they ran out of mango lasi, he told us, we were disappointed at first so we got milk tea instead but he came out soon after and told us he had asked the chef to make the mango lasi for us! It was a very busy night, full and people waiting for pick up and delivery order so we really appreciated that. He then changed our teas to mango lasi for us after asking us if we wanted to change it lol hell yeah we do hahaAnywayyyy lol food is amazing, naan is amazing, service is amazing ( although i probably would just keep ordering delivery from them since the place is quite small haha) but yeah! The one thing I liked about the place is it's well-ventilated. Easy to order online, quick takeout service, and generous portions to accompany big flavors. Perfectly quenched my pregnancy craving for Indian food on the road. This is a little gem hidden in the South Loop/Printers Row neighborhood. They are open for both lunch and dinner. On weekends, it's worth booking a table for dinner or if you have a larger party. However, during the week, you can just walk in. The menu is extensive and contains a myriad of foods that should meet the needs of varying needs (spicy, vegetarian, etc.). We traditionally get a several items more than we can eat since the leftovers are sometimes just as good. Our favorites include: Aloo gobi (a spicy combo of potatoes and cauliflower), palak paneer (cottage cheese and spinach), butter chicken (chicken in a creamy tomato sauce), tandoori chicken, and kashmiri naan (naan with fruit on top). The service is fast, and efficient - just what is needed when you're hungry. We have done take out several times, and the food is just as good. On busy nights, the takeout is ready in about 20 minutes. Try it, enjoy it, and return..... More...

I've never had any of the issues with customer service listed below and am always told to sit where ever I like. As a vegetarian the options and flavors here are great, my personal favorites include the mushroom curry and black lentils. The only thing that gets me is paying $1.50 more on the weekend for the same buffet (since I work during the week I rarely eat here at the lower price). Definitely a fan.(...but also wouldn't go tremendously out of my way to dine here).Since moving back to Chicago we've been here about a half dozen times....rather than explore other Indian places on the southern half of Chicago, CCH has become our go-to Indian restaurant. We've done both take-out and eat-in and have even taken out of town family to CCH. We've enjoyed a number of dishes (vegetarian, chicken and lamb predominantly) and have yet to be disappointed. As others have said, the naan is quite delicious. The only thing that we've tried that leaves a significant amount to be desired are the samosas (this is disappointing as a favorite place in Boston had incredible samosas...have yet to find a midwestern substitute!) which are pretty bland (one time we ate in and ordered vegetable samosas, we errantly received one veg and one chicken crumbles.....didn't complain as, although it wasn't what we ordered, we were curious to check it out.....both are equivalent: not horrible but won't satisfy the craving for a scrumptious samosa). Since I have started going to Jazz Showcase, this has been my dining location of choice in South Loop.  It works out great to drive in from the west, allowing time for unpredictable traffic, kill surplus time by having a beer at Hackney's Printer's Row and walk to Curry House, before walking back to the Showcase.  Now suddenly I have eaten here six times and need to do a review.  Obviously with that many returns, I am enjoying the place. The location is just a little obscure.  You kind of have to know where it is.  Katie T and I walked past the door the first time, not realizing we had missed it.  It is right on the northeast corner of Plymouth Court and W 9th, on the ground floor of a larger building.  The neighborhood does not look like a restaurant area and I'm guessing they rely on local regulars and a few drop-ins like me.  It is a nice intimate place, clean and tidy, with very good service.  There are always clientele dining, but I have never waited for a table.  Best of all, I really enjoy the food, including the Nepalese specialties.  It also seems that you always get a discount coupon when you check in on Yelp.Over the course of six visits in six months, sometimes with others, sometimes alone, I have had the chance to sample a number of things. For appetizers, Katie and I had Chicken Chilly.  I will say, the fresh green chiles they use were at the limit of my heat scale, but this is a good starter, with marinated, sautéed chunks of chicken.  If you don't want the heat, don't eat the chiles.  I have also had Chicken Samosas to make a meal with Dal Makhani.  The samosas are large and cone shaped like volcanos.  The two are plenty for one person and were nice to eat with the dal.  I have had better dal.  I found this version a little bland and I am a dal lover.  Twice I have had Chicken Momo, a Nepalese appetizer.  These are delicious little steamed dumplings.  I'm sure I will beck for more of these.  Bear in mind the Nepalese dishes are probably not as seasoned with complicated spices as the Indian dishes.  (I have an Indian friend who tells me Nepalese is wanna-be Indian food).  But have enjoyed the opportunity to have try some different things.  Another favorite appetizer is Chicken Choela.  This seems to be a Nepalese version of tandoori chicken and I really enjoyed it. Again, not hot, but well flavored. For entrees, I have had Lamb Saag, the aforementioned Dal Makhani, Nepalese Aloo Ra Seemi Ko Tarkari, Murgh Makhani, Mutter Paneer, Farsi Bhaji and Jhane Ko Dal.  I have to say the only one I would not re-order was the Dal Makhani and it was not really bad, I would just chose the Nepalese Jhane Ko Dal instead.  I know it is clichéd, like the people we make fun of who always order Sweet and Sour Pork in Chinese restaurants, but the Murgh Makhani was absolutely decadent; creamy, tangy and sweet.  Most recently (Feb 2015) when trying to eat light, I just ordered they Channa Masala and found it to be excellent.  I took half home and it did not go to waste.  The servings are generous and it is easy to have leftovers.I always get the whole wheat parathas.  I have kind of switched to this.  Let's just say there is more to Indian bread than naan.Menu descriptions are well written and I'm going to say, you really will not go wrong.  I look forward to returning, I love Jazz Showcase and the Hackney's / Curry House routine I have established. Great dinner spot walking distance from the Hilton.  Five of us shared five dishes and they were all delicious.   I also had a glass of Shiraz that was great. My favorite dish was the Vegetable Kofta.  Second favorite was the Lamb Curry.   Overall,  great service and good food.  I've had better indian food in the Los Angeles area, but for being away from home it was great! Lunch buffet Pros: great neighborhood, friendly attentive staff, reasonably priced. The naan, samosas, saag, butter chicken and desserts are a must. Seems like the majority of the buffet is vegetarian if not vegan. Cons: Not sure how authentic the tandoori chicken is, it looks and tastes different than every other tandoori chicken I've ever had. I got a nasty piece of the chicken in the butter chicken which is bound to happen but still kinda gross. The signage needs to be more specific about heat/spice level. I ate this green bean dish that was so spicy my nose refused to stop running the entire lunch ugh. More...

A coworker recommended we come here for our next lunch outing.  I was confident that they would have vegan options.  I didn't expect those options on the buffet so I asked for the menu.  I spoke with someone about making the vegetarian menu options as vegan.  He promptly told me that there were a lot of options offered on the buffet.  He personally walked me through the line pointing out a huge majority of the buffet as vegan.  I quickly ditched the menu and joined my friends for the variety.  The food was delicious!!!  From the samosa to the pekora to the bhindi masala I was not disappointed. I will definitely return and recommend the CCH to friends and family.  CCH earns major points for friendly staff, knowledgable of dietary restrictions, variety offered and delicious food! More...

Well worth the price. I highly recommend the vegetable koftas and a number of the paneer dishes for vegetarians. My friends and I know authentic Indian food when we taste it and I am happy to say that this place passes with flying colors! Keep up the good work.

Before coming here a couple of months ago, I hadn't had Indian in years, ever since a bad experience when I was younger. But since I haven't had it in so long, my sister, cousin and I decided on it and this place was decided based on location, since it was close to home. We weren't aware, and FYI to those that don't know, that this is located in a residential building, right off of State. I've had takeout several times after the first time I dined in a couple of months ago. The menu has alot of variety, especially for vegetarians, as I am one. I've ordered something different each time to try and I liked all of them. Can't say I remember the exact names though. But, I will tell you that their soft garlic naan is orgasmic. I live for garlic alone, it's the Asian in me. Or, I maybe I was an Italian in a past life. As for their levels of spiciness, we thought it was one level ahead. I love spicy food but when I ate there I wasn't in the mood for anything crazy, so I ordered mild, but it tasted spicy to me. My cousin ordered the next level, and my sis ordered the next one. Yeah, they kept chugging water. HA. Everyone still enjoyed the food though.I'm definitely a regular, and it definitely helps that it's in the area. More...

I almost walked right by this place.  Paneer pakora: YUM.  They slice it (most other places I've been to cube it), then batter and fry it.  It's still good the next day.  I wanted to make sandwiches with it.  Just because I'm boring when it comes to Indian food, I stuck with my standard chicken tikka masala but oh my, it was tasty!  It was a little creamier than I am used too, but the chicken was cooked very well so it was soft and the sauce wasn't too runny.  My mouth is watering just thinking about it.I also ordered the stuffed naan, it had onions and cilantro, I forget the menu name.  I could probably live off that stuff.  Best part, they have a Yelp check-in deal for dine-in!  Go check 'em out!!! A little hard to spot the place as it is in a residential area and part of a building complex. We were seated promptly with our menus. The place was very dim and intimate, but the lights did get brighter later on.The complimentary cracker/bread to start was very good on its own. The three accompanied sauces were okay. One was a little sweet, the other was too tangy and sour for my taste, and the green one was alright in spice flavor. It would have been nice if our waiter explained to us their items since we have never been there before and Indian cuisine isn't exactly the most familiar to many people. We had the veggie platter to start. We thought it would have been a bigger platter, but nonetheless, it was very good and intriguing. All of the veggies were lightly battered and not heavy at all.I got the chicken vindaloo, since I'm a spicy addict and wanted to compare it with ones I've had at other places. I was worried when I saw it because it had a brown color, and not the usual red that I am used to seeing. It was also the exact same color as my cousin's dish in which she specified she wanted a medium heat level. However, the flavor and spice level did not disappoint, though I'm not sure if it was traditional vindaloo because I couldn't pick up much vinegar flavor. The chicken was also very tender and juicy, which was a big plus because at India House, their chicken was very dry and overcooked. We also had two orders of regular naan to accompany our dishes, and it was more than enough for three people, especially since our dishes came with basmati rice, which was cooked perfectly. The naan was also very flaky and delicious.I tried my cousin's mango lassi and it was delicious...tasted straight up like a mango but had a thick creamy yogurt texture. My sister also enjoyed her masala tea. Our waiter was a little awkward but attentive. However, he did not come by at the end, but another waiter took care of us. Especially with our 15% off Yelp check-in deal, it was all very worth it. Definitely wouldn't mind coming back. More...

Service:  Very friendly and attentive.Food: Tasty, but a little spicy- and I LOVE spice.  I was pleased to find a place that was not afraid of putting some heat in their dishes, but I felt bad for my Godmother.  She can't handle the heat anymore (and even I felt the digestive issues after eating here), so we ordered the vegi samosas.  Even those were very spicy and she had to scoop out the filling.  Decor:  Odd location from the outside, but cozy on the inside.  Perhaps a little too cozy in the booths, though, I don't think anyone with a belly could squeeze in there!Using the Yelp Check-in discount was easy and worked great!! Came here for a date night after our originally selected restaurant was unfortunately closed. Lucky for us this place was a about a block away and it was a nicer night weather wise.Got seated by the window which was fine since I enjoy spacing out while gazing out of a window. It would have been nice to have a booth to ourselves but they were all full. Smaller restaurant with some neat paintings/decorations. Decent location, but kind of tucked away. The menu had an amazing selection of food. Prices were what you would expect. So my partner in crime and I decided to split an appetizer and meal. Awe were somewhat worried it might not be enough food seeing as we were both starving. We were wrong and ended up leaving stuffed. The food was delicious. Highly recommend the chicken pakora. This is our "go to" Indian restaurant, we come here a few times a month and are never disappointed. The wait staff is always welcoming and friendly.  We usually come here on weeknights and we have never had to wait too long for a table. Some of my favorites:Lamb Samosa- they are huge with flaky crust and warmly spiced ground lamb , they go perfectly with the tamarind chutney on the table.Lamb Vindaloo- nice and spicy with tender chunks of lamb and potatoes.Baigan Bharta- rich and creamy eggplant goodness.Khadhi Paneer- spicy sauce with huge chunks of Paneer cheese.Naan- totally awesome, and freshly made.  Perfect for scooping up all the yummy sauces. All and all I really like this place, the service and food are always good and the prices are reasonable.  Plus they offer check in discounts, so that is always a bonus! We found out about Chicago Curry House after a sudden craving for good fish curry got us on the computer, Google-ing away. Boy, did that search satisfy and more! We placed our order almost close to their closing time but they stayed open till we got there to pick up our order. Our second experience did not disappoint again! We thought to try the special kebab platter but once it arrived, the portion did not seem to justify its price. We called them and immediately, they sent over another portion (PLUS extra!) We weren't expecting all the extras, so this just showed how they believed in keeping their customers extremely satisfied. We'll definitely be going back again and again! For a happy belly, be sure to give Chicago Curry House a try! :) More...

Popped in on a Sunday night. No wait for a table, very attentive staff. Ordered chicken momo appetizer, which came out promptly. Delicious! Also ordered lamb vindaloo and chicken tikka masala to share. Lamb vindaloo pleases those who like hot (spicy) dishes. The chicken tikka masala was more my speed. Flavorful, tender chicken in a thick sauce with just a bit of heat. Hearty servings and great, well-developed flavor. We wrapped up the leftovers and they were even better the second day. Also: the naan bread lives up to the hype; dip it in everything. More...

This place had, hands down, the best naan I've ever had.It was quiet for lunch at around 1:00pm on a Monday afternoon, but Chicago was also in the midst of some terrible sleety weather, so I can't say if this was normal. The buffet was good--lots of selections, soups, pickles and chutneys, pappadam, desserts, etc.  It didn't necessarily blow me away, but it was good and I would return, if only for that naan (and perhaps the ganjar halwa/carrot pudding)!  Definitely a formidable choice for lunch. Tucked away off the beaten Chicago path is this gem of an ethnic place. Started out with the Chicken Pakora, which were marinated overnight, lightly battered then DEEP FRIED! So much for healthy Indian but what the heck! They were light, delicious and flavorful. OH, important point. This app is a large portion so there is easily enuf for 2 people, and I'm a BIG eater! I also looked around and saw quite a few Indians eating there. It is ALWAYS a goos sign when the Restaurant's ethic group is eating there!Next comes the main course....did I steer clear of my comfort zone and order a Nepalese goat dish? Hell no....stuck with Chicken Makhani (aka butter chicken) because I have a hard time finding this back in Charlotte. And I'm glad I did! The chicken was super tender and the sauce was "sophisticatedly" delicious. ....meaning much better than your standard Indian buffet-style sauce. Just a little heat to cap it off but not "hot" at all. Just yummy! Only complaint was that the food temp was luke warm. But the taste and texture more than made up for that. Oh the waiter recommended the garlic naan as an accompaniment.  Great idea as it was! This version of Naan was more flatbread in style, which was ok but I'd prefer it slightly more "bready" than crunchy. Good nonetheless. Finally for dessert I ordered the Gulab Jamun, which was a fried pastry covered in saffron syrup. It reminded me of a lighter version of a donut hole soaked in a light cane syrup. It was good, but not the "dumpling" as it was advertised.I ordered the Taj Mahal beer, hoping for something truly Indian. But honestly it tasted like a Budweiser lagger. I prefer big dark beers but this was light and not really my style. But at leasf it was drinkable.Overall a really good food night. If you're closeby you need to come check it out. Oh and the waitstaff were all really friendly too! More...

I have to admit, lived in UK for 9 years, and have a lot of Indian friends who can cook, I have been so disappointed with curry in USA so far.  But this was different.  Their chutney was all so good, I normally skip them but this one (esp. green mango), I could not stop. We first went here last November and couldn't wait to return on our next trip.  We dined at CCH first week of July and it was just as good as the first time.  Excellent and distinctive food choices that you don't find at other Indian places.  The Chicken MoMo appetizer is not to be missed!  My lamb chilly masala was outstanding and made extra hot just as I had asked.  My companion's vegetarian entrée made him not miss meat at all!  This is a true gem of a restaurant.  The service is attentive and, unlike most Indian restaurants, you don't have to beg for the check. After going to Summer Dance featuring Indian dancing (Bollywood, Bhangra, etc) we decided to stick with the Indian theme!  The restaurant is a bit hard to find as its entrance is actually off of 9th St in a condo building. But once you get inside you are pleasantly surprised. It is very nicely decorated including the extra fancy (and clean) bathrooms. Our waiter was kind to go through the whole menu circling all the vegan dishes for me. I ordered the Tandoor Mixed Vegetables which was excellent. It had a generous portion of broccoli, cauliflower, green peppers, tomatoes, potatoes and shredded onions. It came with white rice.  One friend was not familiar with Indian food so the waiter suggest Chicken Masala for her. She enjoyed it but thought the portion was very small. We all enjoyed the garlic naan and Masala tea. If you're in the S. Loop, which is very far away from Devon, make sure to stop in!  They also just opened Nepal House on Michigan and 14th....I can't wait to try this place out. More...
