I am a violin teacher and often recommend students to get there to rent violins from them. Their monthly rate for first three months a violin is really cheap, and it is a good way for new students to find out whether they like learning violin before they commit to buying a violin right away. People in the shop are helpful and friendly. There are a good selection of music books for beginners too. The shop also has a technician to do some easy string instrument simple repair such as changing strings and put the bridge on etc. Charlie's has my recommendation for music book and instrument purchase. I've been here several times and have always experienced excellent customer service. They were patient with my questions and had everything I needed. Will definitely return.

I visited Charlie's yesterday. Not so sure what the bad reviews are all about. I just went in for strings and found the salesperson very friendly. The store looked orderly vs what some reviews state. No, it's not Guitar Center, but I don't think I overpaid for Elixir strings. I have honestly gotten "deceived" (for lack of a better word) in trade-in's  and purchases at Guitar Center. Plus, it is so noisy from back round music and people showing off their licks that  you really can't concentrate on what your buying. I'd go back to Charley's again. I'd be interested  in repair and setup reviews for this store more than purchases.   Four stars for now. I'll see what happens after future visits. More...

I've never been a huge fan of this place because a lot of the stuff is overpriced and I feel like the guys down there have some bad days. Problem is, there's nowhere better to give your business to. This place has a pretty good selection of just about everything. I might buy a used guitar here at some point. They're never busy, I guess that's a plus for me too. More...

Mixed review.  Sometimes you find nice, helpful people here, sometimes you don't.  Try to avoid a guy named Chip.  This is my first review on Yelp, and I was inspired by his terrible customer service over the phone.  I have a guitar at Charlie's that should have been repaired and ready for pickup at least two weeks ago.  Not a problem.  I call today to check on it and because my cell phone service is spotty here, Chip hangs up on me.  I call right back and say, "I just called a second ago, and I think you hung up on me.'  Chip says, "Your phone crapped out.  What can I do for you?"  I say I have a guitar there that I'm checking on, I'm looking for Eric.  He says he'll be in at noon.  I ask him if he can have Eric call me back (why do I have to come up with this brilliant idea?  Eric was supposed to call me two weeks ago).  When Chip says "sure," it sounds like I instead asked him to eat his a dozen raw eggs.  He asks me my claim number, which I never got.  He asks me my last name, which I have now already told him twice.  I tell him a third time.  Then he hangs up on me again.  If I was Chip's boss, I would not want him answering the phone or speaking to customers at all.  I will now find a new place for shopping and repair, or wait for Chip to be fired before I return to Charlie's.
