Well to start they were move than accommodating price wise . They were very punctual . They fit me in the next morning which was perfect because I'm single mom & I work A LOT& the next day was my day off . It was between getting a new couch or trying to salvage my couch . If you have pets which I do(multiple) you deal with the hair, inevitable pee stains ,etc you know the struggle when you're on a budget . The couches smell great, they look great. They were very professional & helpful. And also they weren't judging at all, I know they probably tend to see a lot of stuff & well having someone clean something of yours can really make you feel self conscious . The agent who helped me over the phone was very kind, clear and helpful, but I did not love having to give a $50 deposit just to make an appointment without an exact price. Though the technician arrived within the estimated time window and was flexible on his initial quoted price (in exchange for these Yelp reviews), I still paid a bit more than expected for an L-shaped sectional and one area rug. They performed a really good quality cleaning service on both of our items and are clearly serious about their work. Overall can't ask for much more than that, other than creating a system where technicians could offer exact estimates before arrival (picture, video?) so you can make a more informed decision about whether or not to drop a deposit and secure an appointment. The technician who came out to perform the work gave up on the job early before even tackling all the stain spots on the couch because whatever he was doing wasn't working. The manager we spoke with on the phone was manipulative and tried to make US feel bad and then still charged us full price for an incomplete cleaning. This business is are such a joke it's almost comical. I was referred by a family member who has been using this company for years and they have severed a long time relationship and lost the potential of many more clients. But anyways ... I called and paid my $100 "deposit" to be on the calendar (against my better judgement but again was referred by a family member) I was given a date and a 2 hour time window when the tech would be here. From the very beginning I felt like I was being sized up. Dante looked at my luxury apartment and tried to qoute me an outrageous $400 minimum for a 2 piece sectional that barely fits 5 people. As I a business owner I respect peoples prices and would've kindly just declined, however I paid a "deposit" that I just knew I wouldn't be get back if I did. So I negotiated him down to $250 but I had to write 5 star reviews on all 3 of the companies yelp pages "before he left" LOL... (Keep in mind my mother just had her whole apartment's carpet cleaned for $200!!!!!) Dante spent a total of 45ish mins in my apartment from the quote to being "finished". I was extremely disappointed in the work and reached out to my referral to let her know how poor of a job was done. She was shocked and immediately called Kevin, the owner, to rectify the situation. I personally didn't speak to Kevin but reached out via text after to schedule a time when he himself would be able to finish the job. We agreed for that following Tuesday and I was given a 4 hour window of when he would arrive. I appreciated this gesture and cancelled my morning of work to make sure I was available. I reached out to Kevin the day of around 2 hours into the window to ask when I would be expecting him. Come to find out KEVIN NEVER PUT ME ON HIS CALENDAR!!!! At this point I was over it and had no more time to give to this situation and kindly asked for a refund.... and boy did that not go well. I was yelled at by Kevin told he "STANDS BEHIND HIS TECHS WORK" and hung up on me... So now I was out of $250 and half a days profit from work. WOW But what makes it even worse is he has DANTE call me back and tells me this is how they run their "business" and they "didn't know I was referred by someone"... now my three questions are this... Why does it matter if I was a referral? Would I have been given an actual cleaning? Also, Is this cleaning worth my originally quoted $400? These pictures were taken AFTER my cleaning! Super Shady business practice and not a business of there word. Uses the $100(non refundable) deposit to over quote you for the simplest carpet cleaning which forces you to go with them or lose your deposit. Bait and switch at its finest. After I expressed my disdain with the work, I was yelled at then hung up on. Unbelievable. SMH. Today I got my carpets cleaned and I am extremely happy with the service that received. My carpets were filthy and I feared that it was too far gone and would be difficult to clean. To my surprise and pleasure, Champs did an amazing job at cleaning and restoring our carpet back to health. We have pets who have absolutely destroyed the carpets inside of the house. I am not a complainer, and like to give people the benefit of the doubt. But this company does the bait & switch game, and charges too much for too little. I received a postcard that advertised "Clean Any 2 rooms. Only $29." I was asked for a non-refundable $100 depoist for them to come out and asses my needs, Kevin, the owner would not quote me any specific prices over the phone, so I figured I would find other area's for them to clean to add up to the $100 minimum charge. When Dante arrived he said my one standard sized bedroom would need "deep" cleanning, and it would cost $200! When I questioned how the price could go from (half of) $29 to $200, he then said he would lower the price to $150. At this point I didn't have much choice, or I would have lost my $100 "deposit". He was at my home a total of 30 min., and he asked for a tip, which is very unprofessional and puts someone on the spot. Also, I was told the room would be dry enough to walk on in 4-6 hours, it was soaking wet when he left, and took 36 hours to dry with both my windows open and a ceiling fan on. $400 way too expensive for a 700 foot print sqft 3 bedroom empty house. yes, i ask stairs be cleaned but that should not be much more than the quote based on $ per room. no prior estimate but need to pay deposit first so you basically have to go with their quote. was charged 100 at first but when I switch date due to unforseeable event owner charged me additional $200 and once showed up another $100. felt being extorted and he didn't honor the %10 discount I requested say that is for the next service. what a scum ball! never use this company again for this experience despite the + review from others. The owner, Kevin is unprofessional, rude and his ego lost him a returning customer. I've used them in the past and wanted to support a black owned company as a Black woman. I've always thought it odd to require an upfront $100 deposit but still moved forward with booking in which he did say it would be non refundable. What he didn't say is that i would have to pay an ADDITIONAL DEPOSIT to reschedule. So when i called 24 hours in advance to reschedule for the following week, Kevin was immediately perturbed and told me I'd need to pay another deposit on top of the $100 I've already paid. This was never communicated to me and also there's nothing in writing so it also is bad practice and feels money hungry. I shared with Kevin that I did not know an additional deposit would be required in the event that I would need to reschedule (a date was provided by me in which i could reschedule as well) and that he should have his policies in writing so there's no confusion and no customer is put into this difficult predicament. He went on to raise his voice over the phone, and talk over me saying i shouldn't tell him how to run his business of 30 years. I'm a customer and typically good business practice WOULD be to get customer feedback and thank people for their feedback. Instead his ego was bruised and he took it way too personal and said i can't tell him how to run his business lol. This is our second time having our sectional cleaned by Champs (it's off-white and we bought it before we had sweet but sticky fingered kids! There were also pet stains from a guest). We called on a Saturday and we're able to get a Monday appointment. Kevin, the owners, was super friendly, professional, and easy to work with. Did a great job with the sectional. Experience matters! I called this company to get my area rug cleaned. They said they'd have to charge me $100 "deposit" to make an appointment to come see my rug to give me a proper quote. When they finally arrived 7 hours late to the agreed upon time, they gave me some ludicrous quote. I said no, thank you, please refund my $100. That is when they first told me that it was non-refundable. Now I'm short $100 with a dirty rug. Called to get a free estimate (as per their website) and was told it would be $250 to clean two rugs. Called back later and was told the $250 was not a "quote" and that they'd have to see the rugs to give the actual cost of cleaning and that the $250 would be the minimum. Then was told there would be a $200 deposit to schedule the appointment for them to come out and provide a quote. This seemed off and the owner "Kevin" was being unusually aggressive, using high pressure sales tactics and saying he had a lot of phone calls to make so I needed to decide then and there if I wanted to book the appointment. I was led to believe the deposit was to prevent any last minute cancellations and that we'd get the deposit back if we ultimately decided not to go through with the service once we got the final quote. Paid the deposit and scheduled the appointment.Later that day, found out by reading Yelp reviews more closely that they are known for charging 2x or 3x more than the initial phone estimate once they actually visit the customer's house/apartment, and if the customer decides not to go through with the cleaning, they try to keep the deposit. And that customers that HAVE gone through with the cleaning were unhappy with the shoddy service. Many of the 5-star reviews were the result of them pressuring the customers to write the reviews before they even left the premises or the carpets/rugs had dried. Oh and also, the owner "Kevin" is actually Khalid Ahmad Wilson, and he was previously arrested on 27 counts of fraud (you can google him, I double-checked after learning this on Yelp and his address matches Champs Rug's address). He operates his carpet cleaning company under multiple names, and just changes the name when bad reviews start to pile up.Obviously after learning all this, I wasn't going to risk it. So I called to cancel the appointment and was told the deposit is non-refundable (which was NOT stated on the phone call). When I pointed out I could simply do a chargeback on my credit card since he misrepresented himself and his services and has a history of fraudulent behavior, he hung up lol :) The lesson from all this is to do better research ahead of time, and look closely at the negative reviews, not just the positive ones. Kevin the owner and his partner Daunte came to my home to clean my vintage 70s 9ft golden velvet couch after my cat peed on it. I called on Friday night and they were here Saturday morning at 9 am. Was highly recommended by a friend, called and asked about area rugs cleaning and pricing. When I questioned the quote, which was 3 times more than what my friend was charged and what is on the add. I was told that my business wasn't good enough, and I flat out a waste of his time. I appreciate the honesty, and that's why I gave 1 star. Please don't go with this company, the owner make you pay $50 deposit to over charge you. He is a straight thief. I ask him to clean a sofa; which my client urinated on one part of the couch, he had a accident. I just moved in my house in January so I had a stain in front of my door way, the rest of the carpet was clean, his worker wasn't honest and acted like my carpet had alot of stains, the owner was on the phone being argumentative. My carpets were highly soiled and I was looking for a reliable company in the Oakland area. And after reading many reviews and calling many carpet cleaning places Champs carpets were the first to call me back. We promptly set up an appointment for the next day. He walked through my condo and stated he couldn't guarantee anything but he do his best... 1. I called to reschedule my rug cleaning appointment needed to be canceled due to an emergency. I left a message.2. The owner called me back and had no idea who he was speaking to, which is strange because I left my name and number and he called me. I had to remind him. 3. I attempted to reschedule the appointment. The owner informed me that it would now require a $50 deposit. The $25 deposit was voided due to the cancelation. Not sure as to why the deposit fee doubled but, sure.4. I expressed that I was unaware that a new deposit would be required. This was not made clear in the contract.5. This was the last sentence I uttered before the owner then proceeded to scold me for the next 5 mins. He asked why I felt it his responsibility to explain his cancelation policy (which was odd)He stated 5 different times that he's running a business and how its unprofessional to cancel an appointment. The entire time, I continuously had to interject with "Sir, sir" to even get a statement in. He continue to speak over me, the paying customer as he expressed himself. I could not get in a single word to explain my position. To be clear, I never stated that I would not pay an additional deposit or that the deposit was unreasonable. He has no idea whether or not I was willing to pay (I was). To make matters worse, he then attempts to appeal to me as another Black person by calling me "Brother". This seems pretty odd to me given how this owner spent the majority of the call scolding me about professionalism. Seems unprofessional to me. I have no problem paying fees, penalties, or fines in the event of an appointment cancelation. His deposit policy, however, was not made clear to me upon receipt. Champs came through for me in a pinch. Another company was scheduled for me and they messed with my time ultimately making me cancel them. So I called champs and they were able to do the job for me within two hours. I have a surprise guest coming for my spouse so it was very important to me to get the job done. I'm calling them from now on. I also got some coffee from them! Their proceeds go back into the community. We need more businesses like this! And we need more people supporting businesses like this. I'm not sure how this company has so many good reviews, but we had a recent sketchy situation with them. We're not even sure this is a legitimate company. I called the number on the website, got a call back and was given a rough quote by phone when I described what we wanted. When the guys showed up, they were in a van that belonged to a coffee company. The first thing the guy said to my husband was "do you like coffee? We sell organic coffee too." So random.They then quoted us twice as much on-site, and said there was only a 50/50 chance it would work. We declined the service mentioning the quote we received by phone. He then agreed to reduce the cost down $100 so we decided to try it. Bad mistake.We're pretty sure they didn't actually use any cleaner or soap, just hot water. Most of the stains have reappeared now that it's dried. Lastly the invoice they gave us says "carpet gigs" not "champs carpet," so not sure if we were subcontracted out or if this is a front company. I had a very frustrating interaction with the owner, Kevin, while trying to get a quote for cleaning my carpets. He seemed more interested in securing a deposit than providing me with an accurate estimate. I asked whether I can call him later to confirm the appointment, as his pushy attitude was giving me second thoughts and I wanted to think about it and not make a decision under pressure. He told me he would not answer my call and was not interested in making things complicated--and then hung up on me. Your going to want to make a hard pass for any type of pet stain removal from this company. Had a PH rinse and enzyme treatment for a area rug with a recent pet stain as well as our stairs cleaned, and they somehow made the stairs smell like the area rug which ended up having to be cleaned again.
