CMH has been a go to spot for me since a kid. Now that I don't live the area anymore I try to visit it at least once when I make it to York. You can find great eats in this place whether it's fresh veggies and fruit or even dessert. My go to spots are Henry's ham, Bair's for some fried chicken and The Fish Market (fried cod and crab cakes are delicious!). Even on a Saturday the market is not overly packed and there's a parking garage near by with off street parking as well. Definitely check it out on a nice Saturday when you're in the downtown York area. More...

I've been going to Central Market since I was a kid and obviously it's changed but the baked goods and breakfast options are still awesome. There are really unique stands with great handmade items and some food things than can sometimes hard to find for people who are doing the clean eating thing. (and the doggy treat stand, that's a must for us)I absolutely love it, but if you go in thinking it's a market market you may be somewhat disappointed...however you'll get over it quickly because there's still a lot going on in there and lots to see. 4.5This place has been as much a part of my growing up and growing old as any place in York. Visited as a child - checking out competitors to my father's truck farm. Alas! the farmers have all but gone, yet a few "newer" farms have taken their place with some beautiful fresh produce.Henry's ham sandwiches at lunch for a business where I was temporarily employed. Tender, sweet and excellent price! Visited at other times just to stroll through and relive fond memories that go far beyond the two instances cited here. Another regular - Bruners Exotic fruits have delicious drinks and (sometimes) out of the ordinary fruit. Two life-long friends and I came specifically to sample the crab and oysters at The Fish Market. We were not disappointed. Tender and succulent fried oysters and savory sweet crab cakes were a delight. And for $7 including chips and water...great price! Testing in the "common" area was easy to get although there are times when long wait is theorizer of business.Several other places like Conrad's Deli seem to have been here forever while a few odd-ball vendors don't fit the old image, but are simply a sign of the times. So while vendors may come and go, the sweet memories (too many to mention) remain. One of York's best features! Local tip about the posted weekend hours: *technically* the doors open at 6am on Saturdays, but market vendors don't open until 7am (same as during the week). Only go early if you need some quiet time ... and have already had your coffee and breakfast. More...
