How can someone tell if their Garage is suitable for conversion?
All garages are suitable for conversion, the variable is the amount of work required to bring the existing condition up to the standard of a habitable room that complies with building regulations

Upgrade floor, walls & roof with insulation to comply with building regulations for thermal capacity
If headroom is restricted the roof will need to be raised
The floor will ideally be raised to meet the floor level of the existing house, this can be achieved through the installment of insulation and screed or alternatively a timber suspended floor with insulation along with T&G boarding
How can someone tell if their loft is suitable for conversion?
Generally local authorities will not allow a ridge height to be raised and affect the street scene negatively therefore an existing clear 500mm headroom is essential, the additional 500mm is required due to the requirement for a structural ridge beam to prevent roof spread, deeper floor joists than the existing ceiling joist, deeper rafters and the provision of rigid insulation, the combination of these components will reduce the space available.
A second option is to lower the ceiling joists to create the headroom in the loft however this is really only an option if the first floor ceiling heights are higher than the average of 2.2 to 2.4m.
Run us through the different stages in the loft conversion process - what’s involved?
Items that are required:
Deeper floor joists than the existing ceiling joists
Rafters that are large enough to span down to the ashlar wall to the eaves
Structural ridge beam to prevent roof spread
Steel beams in the floor to pick up the new floor joists
Insulation between and under the rafters to create a "warm roof"
Insulation between new ceiling joists
New staircase into loft
30 minute protected route to exit the building from the loft to an external door
Plumbing and electrics as required
Plaster & paint finish
What’s your interior design process?
We would carry out a site visit to discuss the project requirements with the client and while on site carry out a measurement survey
Then we would present the client with mood boards highlighting various styles and options to narrow down on the route we will take with the style
Following the mood boards we prepare a set of 3D images to show how the proposed layouts and design ideas will come together
Upon the design being signed off we can put the project out to competitive tender to the builders we regularly work with and trust
