How can someone tell if their Garage is suitable for conversion?
Firstly check condition of construction walls need to be sound and pointing or render may need attention
roof construction needs to be in good order all timbers may need replacing with new pressurised timbers roof. Roof covering may need attention. Also look to see if any neighbour has similar property and have had conversion done if so you should have no problem getting planning consent.
Run us through the different stages of the Garage conversion process - what's involved?
1. I would firstly recommend attending to the roof area you really need construction to be watertight before anything internally begins.
2. Form openings for new doors windows etc. also close up/adjust existing openings.
3. First fix all new internal timber walls, floors and ceiling
4. Insulate roof, new floors and walls as required.
5. First fix all electrics and pipework
6. Lay new floor, install plasterboard to new walls and ceiling.
7. Plaster new walls and ceiling.
8. 2nd fix all electrics pipework etc.
9. Fit new doors windows
10. Fit all skirtings, architraves, trims etc.
11. Decorate as necessary.
