About
Hello there. Are you struggling with feelings that are overwhelming? Or struggling to to feel anything at all? I can offer you a caring and supportive space to work this through. I'm an experienced Integrative Counsellor so can draw on a range of counselling approaches and strategies to meet your unique, individual needs.
However, my main concern will always be to build a positive and equal therapeutic relationship between us where you can feel accepted and respected, heard and understood. Whatever brings you to counselling, I hope that together we can make sense of your experiences and enable you to move forwards in a purposeful and positive way. I will always be interested to hear your ideas about what feels right and what may be most helpful during the counselling process. I will not tell you what to do nor give you ‘all the answers’, but I will offer a facilitative space where you can find these for yourself.
I will endeavour to help you feel comfortable and engaged throughout the counselling process and am committed to providing you with the best possible service. This includes upholding the professional standards of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and adhering to its Ethical Framework of Good Practice. I engage in ongoing training and personal development activities to keep up to date with developments in the field of counselling and psychotherapy and also to ensure I can offer the very best of myself to you within the therapeutic relationship. Having had counselling myself I understand both the challenges and great rewards of the experience.
I have worked as a Counsellor at Sheffield Mind and also the University of Sheffield Counselling Service supporting clients across a wide range of issues including: depression, anxiety, panic attacks, bereavement, relationship break-up, sexual identity, work stress, bullying, anger, domestic abuse, parenting issues, childhood neglect and abuse, the impact of chronic trauma, self-harm, suicidal ideation, eating disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, sexual assault, psychosis, personality disorders. In addition to my private counselling practice, I work as a Specialist Mental Health Mentor at the University of Sheffield. This involves offering caring and empathic support to students who are experiencing psychological distress as well as students who have diagnoses of A.D.H.D and Aspergers. My qualifications are as follows:
Professional Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy (accredited by the National Counselling Society)
Certificate in Foundations of Counselling (accredited by the National Counselling Society)
M.A in Socio-Legal Studies
B.A (Hons) in Communication Studies.
In our first session, we can get a sense of how well we might work together and also discuss practical issues such as confidentiality. Following that you can attend sessions weekly or whatever suits your needs. Daytime, evening and weekend sessions are available for both short and long term work. I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and hold full Professional Indemnity insurance. I work from comfortable, easily accessible premises in S11.
