What do you love most about your job?
I love immersing myself in writing of any kind. Whether I'm proofreading a dissertation or editing a web page I get a glimpse into lots of different worlds. It is very satisfying to help others present their hard work in the best possible light by adding that final polish.
What inspired you to start your own business?
As I am one of those pedantic people who likes all the apostrophes in the right place I felt I might as well put this 'skill' to good use! I work part time at a college and I first got into proofreading by helping students with their essays. At the time I was also looking for some freelance creative work and a friend gave me a few hours a week with her web design business. I still work for the same company and after 10 plus years the work is as interesting and challenging as ever.
Why should our clients choose you?
I am meticulous and conscientious, and interested in working on any kind of text. Some recent examples include: editing website content from suppliers in the Far East to read more naturally to an English audience (unfortunately it was no longer as funny when I had finished with it...), proofreading a journal article for an academic, proofreading and tidying up the layout of news stories before the web designer added a plugin to make them appear on the home page!
I believe it's important to keep learning. I'm currently enjoying developing new skills in Copy Editing through the Society for Editors and Proofreaders.

Yes, I work from home so can take work on from anywhere.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
As I don't need to meet my customers in person there has been no need to put in place any measures due to Covid-19.
