Loved this place! First time here!I had a chicken salad salad that they are famous for and I can definitely see why! The menu is different and looks wonderful. There are a few things I can't wait to try. I must admit I had dessert because zi couldn't resist! ALMOND AMARETTO CHEESE CAKE HOMEMADE!!!! I really did share it with my husband! Interesting menu with all star tapas dishes paying homage to several countries quite lovingly. The Thai yellow curry crab chowder had Tom Ka Kai vibe to it with a distinct coconut flavor. The cilantro and peppers add a much needed brightness to the dish that don't outshine the lump crab. Potatoes as the versatile ingredient they are meshed well with the dish. The Mexican shrimp salad had noticeably fresh shrimp and was equally bright and festive in taste as it was in presentation. Smoked salmon deviled eggs were light and kept simple letting the standalone elements to speak for themselves without the typical coating of paprika or cayenne. Very lovely place. I loved that they played smooth jazz, served beer and wine and had outdoor seating. Very chill. The staff were remarkably attentive, courteous and knowledgable. They were as relaxed as the backdrop even as customers started piling in towards the evening. Terrific joint. I have been coming here for years and still love the food every time. The menu is small, but there's usually a daily special and the regular menu items are delicious and healthy. They also have gluten free options. The servers are always very friendly and accommodating. The outside seating is nice and shaded and I love to just sit outside and sip their orange ice tea. My favorite meal is their gluten free Spanish crab cazuela with a side salad. And if they ever have their salmon salad, get it! The pepper poppers and salmon salad deviled eggs are also amazing. This place was such a treat. The food was delicious. I got the Tikka Masala sandwich on brioche which was flavorful without being too heavy. My partner got the crab cake melt with a side of their homemade potato salad which I was very jealous of after I tasted. Everything seemed so fresh and thoughtful. Passion... Hospitality... this is such a beautiful place. The soda bread and crab bisque remind me of my favorite restaurant in Nashville (Peninsula), where we live, where we were won over by simple broth and bread that was one of the best meals we’d ever had. Carmen's staff were friendly and professional. I would have preferred to sit outside but it's a busy place right at noon on a weekday, and for good reason. The cozy little restaurant is probably the same size as your master bedroom but packs big flavor and demands a reasonable amount out of your wallet in return. I had the soup of the day which was, in a word, explosive. Bold zesty flavors is what Carmen's does well. The kale salad topped with a fantastic balance of dressing, walnuts, raspberries and black berries was excellent. Carmen's special orange iced tea was a nice treat to go with. Carmen's is located in downtown Pensacola with a mice view of the downtown scenery. This is a great place to sit down for a delicious variety of lunch items, my favorite being the North Carolina BBQ sandwich. The staff are always friendly.
