Not a scam-just not typical gov processing we / US is used to. In preparation to travel to Jamaica I was getting very nervous to receive the approved authorization in time after following required steps. Testing , submitting authorization request no more than 5 days, less that 2 to arrival ( cutting it close ! ). I believe the ministry is trying to process as best they can and experiencing difficulty given various circumstances/COVID . I was able to reach by phone at a later hour and have my request processed. So I would recommend calling non-peak hours, they prob get overwhelmed during certain times. Best of luck to everyone fortunate enough to vacation during these time and I’m looking forward to Jamaica again , one of my favorite countries to visit from past experience . The Ministry of Health runs ads telling persons how to stop the spread of Covid-19, they give daily reports and the Jamaican populace is blamed for the increasing rise in numbers. However, the very action of its staff is what contributes to the spread. Someone with a 2 week old baby has serious symptoms, calls in on Saturday and her information is taken and she's given a number to call, which until Wednesday nobody answers. She is contacted on Sunday and told to go to the Greater Portmore Health Center Monday for testing, she takes Public transportation. On Monday she's told her name is not on the list, come back Tuesday, on Tuesday she's told, they're only dealing with emergencies, try again tomorrow. If she is positive, she would have exposed 8 taxi drivers, their other passengers, and all their families. Someone needs to explain how is contact tracing conducted in such a situation? How is this being treated as a pandemic? The actions of these persons are condescending, rude and nonchalant. Who is held accountable? Are they trained? Is this matter really being taken seriously? The actions of these persons, from the hotline to the Health Centre have now put numerous lives at risk by their callous behaviour!!!! More...

To all planning travel to Jamaica, be warned that because you must have a negative Covid-19 test result within 10 days of travel to obtain the required authorization letter to board your flight to Jamaica to enter the country, you could possibly lose all or a portion of your vacation/funds. The authorization process managed by the ministry of health is riddled with problems. At the time of my vacation, there were only 4 states, Arizona, Texas, Florida, and California, that required negative Covid-19 test results to get the required authorization letter. With that, myself and my two nieces applied for authorization. I did not require a Covid test, as I was coming from Chicago, was approved immediately. However, my two nieces were coming from Arizona and Florida so both were required to upload their test results to get approval. Niece 1 sent her application and test results 3 days prior to departure and Niece 2 sent the required info 2 days prior to departure. On the morning of departure they were not able to board their flights because their applications were in a pending status and had not yet been approved. Later that evening, after 3 days in a pending status and calling to no avail, Niece 1 gets an email saying she needs to send the Covid results in PDF, which she immediately does. The application is finally approved 2 days later. Niece 1, after missing 3 days of her planned 5-day Jamaica vacation was able to get a flight to head to Jamaica only to find that the approval letter is expired. Thankfully when she called to cancel her flight for the 3rd time the airline told her they would allow her to board as long as she had the authorization letter even though it was expired. She safely arrived with just 2 days left of her vacation which is nonrefundable for the days missed at the resort. Niece 2 had a better outcome, as she was approved later on the evening she was to depart. She missed 1 day of her 5-day vacation. The purpose of this post is to let you know, plan your vacation to Jamaica at your own risk. At the time, Covid testing was required for only 4 states. It’s now required for all 50 states as of August 20, 2020. If they couldn’t handle the numbers for 4 states, 50 states will be disastrous. If you decide to come, get trip insurance, however, I don’t even know if that will work as we have not filed a claim yet. More...
