WOW, not sure how we missed this place. We live right down Central Avenue and pass here all the time. Tucked into a strip center a block from the Treasure Island beach, I guess we assumed it was a stereotypical fried food basket place. We could not have been more wrong! There is a good amount of parking in the lot, just watch signs reserved by a few other businesses. There are a few tables outside under umbrellas, between the business and the parking lot. Inside is much more polished and comfortable than we had expected with a nice mix of booths and tables, soft lighting and some vintage beach photos and artwork. We arrived and were seated right away. They had a really amazing guitar player, who not only played and sang well but wasn't too loud. The server who seated us immediately took our drink order while we looked over the menu. She quickly returned with two well made, fairly strong gin and tonics with lime and two glasses of water. We started with Calamari ($11.00) it was a large rectangular platter filled with crispy calamari. It had a nice mix of tubes and tentacles, was not greasy and was well seasoned. The lemon-garlic aioli that accompanies their marinara sauce was creamy and full of flavor. My husband ordered their Captain's Crab Cakes ($24.00) he received two crispy, pan-fried crab cakes packed with flavor and nice sized lumps of crab. It was served with fresh green beans and he chose the coconut rice as his second side. Really well done and nice to see lumps of crab instead of filler.I opted for the Sea Scallops ($26.00) the platter included truffled mashed cauliflower and a shaved artisan asparagus salad in a lemon vinaigrette.ABSOLUTE WINNER! There were four big, plump well-seasoned scallops with a nice sear. The cauliflower mash was smooth, creamy and nicely seasoned and not overpowered with truffle oil. The shaved asparagus salad was dotted with flecks of red cabbage and the lemon vinaigrette was the perfect acidic balance to everything on the plate.Attentive, friendly service, amazingly fresh,well-preparedd food, we'll absolutely be back.Additionally, they participate in a local Club Savor program so the already reasonable pricing was a really great value! Its so rare to find a beachside restaurant that actually serves high quality food and doesn't just trade on its location. If you're looking for an oasis from fried fish, wings and burgers, then you should definitely come here . Maybe they realize that since they aren't on the beach and don't have the views, they better have the quality. However, they are surrounded by restaurants in the same predicament whose food is less than par (I'm looking at you, Shrimpys and Pearl). So if you're trying to choose between the half dozen restaurants on either side of the street here, the choice is simple. Captain Bills. There wasn't a negative. Well, one minor negative but I'll get to that in a second. We came on Saturday night with Bruce because our pup needed to be around his adoring public. Yes, their outside seating is dog friendly and Bruce approved. We each ordered a drink-I had the rum cake old fashioned and Melissa had the froze all day. My drink was very good, though it tasted nothing like rum cake (if you're calling it a rum cake old fashioned, shouldn't you use spiced rum?). Nevertheless, both of our drinks were very good though melissa felt hers was on the weak side. We started with the mussels in a garlic white wine and cream sauce. These were awesome but the one slightly negative is that you don't get as many mussels as you tend to get in a mussels dish. Maybe it was standard and just a really big bowl but it seemed on the light side. The sauce was excellent though. We definitely could have used more bread to soak it up (2 small pieces of bread really isn't enough with that much sauce). However, small negatives aside, the mussels were delicious. For my entree, I got the key west platter, which was grilled shrimp and cobia with veggies and coconut rice on a mustard sauce. The sauce was fantastic. The fish and shrimp were delicious with the sauce. Veggies may have been over cooked, but they were overshadowed by how good the rest of the dish was. I was honestly shocked. The only reason I ordered it was because the market prices of the other dishes felt expensive so I took a flyer on this, and I'm happy I did. It was thoroughly enjoyable. Melissa got the tropical mahi, which was blackened and served with a pineapple mango salsa and coconut rice. Didn't need the salsa. It is so refreshing to find restaurants that advertise a dish as "blackened" and you can actually taste the seasoning. More often then not the dish is still bland, which should be punishable by death. It's blackened. It should be bursting with flavor from the blackened seasoning. Captain Bills does it right. Captain Bills seems to do everything right. Great job. More...

My wife was in the mood for seafood since we were near at the ocean and Captain Bill's looked like a solid option. Our waitress was amazing from start to finish. They also had a gentleman playing acoustic guitar singing James Taylor, The Beatles, Bob Marley, etc that had an excellent voice! She said her seafood pasta was excellent and I was glad I was able to order plain veggies free of butter, cheese, etc. The restaurant was slow on a rainy Sunday evening but we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience here! We had our dog and they do have outside seating.  Food was good and service was good.  I'm stingy on 5 stars but this place was close.  I would recommend!  Fish dip was great, Nashville hot chicken sandwich tender chicken, fried pickle was as expected, ginger Asia veggies were great. If you love seafood. You'll Love Captain Bill's Restaurant. The service is top notch. Our server was Andrea, and she went all out to make sure we had a good time. When I asked for extra olives in my dirty vodka Kettle One Martini ($13), the drink was filled to the brim of the glass, so that the extra olives did not mean I got less Martini. I wanted an extra 1/8 oz. bottle of hot Tabasco to go, no problem. Plus, most bartenders do not make dirty Martini's properly, either they are too dirty or not dirty enough. Cap't Bill's bartender knows how to make 'em right. My 2 appetizers, Calamari ($12) and 1/2 Dz Oysters Rockefeller ($12) were very tasty (Picture only shows 5 because I couldn't wait to taste 'em). Did not need to add anything other than fresh lemon wedges (Extra wedges supplied by Andrea within SECONDS of asking for them). Caesar Salad ($7) was a decent mixture of greens, not just romaine lettuce. The Sea scallops entree ($26) were very large and had a tasty garnish. Turned out Thursday is 1/2 price on bottles of wine, so we ordered a bottle of Finca Los Moras ($32, Half price $16). According to ViVino, it is a 3 star wine that goes for $14.99. So I consider the $16 1/2 price at a restaurant a good deal. All in all, an excellent dining experience. Plus, live music by a talented musician and Cap'n Bill's is on my list as a go to restaurant when entertaining out-of-town guests. More...

This restaurant was so good my family and I had to go twice! If you are a fan of raw seafood, especially oysters, I HIGHLY recommend this place. This was some of the best seafood I've had in a while and I have been on several international trips throughout the past few years. Service was great, friendly and fast, and Happy Hour is hard to beat. $1 oysters and clams and $5 cocktails from 2-6pm- definitely one of the best deals in treasure island. If you are in the are, you are doing yourself a disservice by not coming here. Nothing negative I can say! More...

I have to say: my boyfriend and I are not from the area so we stumbled upon this place by chance by our hotel, and I'm SO glad we did! ! The food was absolutely incredible!! We went two days in a row because the food was so amazing. I have To say our server the first time, Candace, made the experience that much more incredible. I 100% recommend the steak sandwich! It's the best I've ever had, anywhere!! My boyfriend is also a huge Oyster eater and says these are SO worth it!! I also had the shrimp linguine the first day. The shrimp were so big and fresh! The place is casual dress, the drinks are super good, and the atmosphere is so chill. Absolutely loved it and will always visit when we come back to town!! I also had a rosé frosé? Or something like that and it was INCREDIBLE. Steak sandwich I will miss you, but until we meet again. More...

The decor was beach themed and open.  It's definitely not a "dressy" type of place, so feel free to dress as casual as you would like.   They have a good selection of beers on tap and a good drink menu.  We ordered the Tropical Mahi with coconut rice and it was AMAZING!  Highly recommend that dish!   We also ordered a steak sandwich which was equally great!  It's served on Cuban bread and had a good amount of steak in it.  The potatoes that you can select for the side were really good, although there was a little too much rosemary in them.  All in, I would definitely recommend trying out this restaurant. After striking out all week trying to find a single restaurant that offers vegan friendly options, I decided to call before being let down yet again. I spoke with a very nice man, Louis. He was so helpful trying to find options on the menu that would be vegan friendly besides a salad. We decided to dine for dinner, it was so delicious! My in-laws and husband loved their non-vegan, seafood options and I loved their fresh grilled vegetables with coconut rice and their house salad. All the food was served hot and fresh! Louis even came over to us to assure everything was correct and to thank us for coming in, how friendly! I highly recommend this spot for foodies of all types! Like many others that turn to reviews when looking for something to eat, we decided to give Capt. Bill's a try. My party was skeptical when they seen the menu size, but once everyone found what they wanted it was a hit. We started with the calamari and fried pickles. Both delicious. The pickles came with a very good horseradish sauce. I ordered the sesame tuna wonton  tacos. Probably some of the best fish tacos I've ever had. My son enjoyed his blackened shrimp tacos with mango salsa as well. Wife was very impressed with the burger. On top of the awesome food and service, was the fact it was happy hour. Enjoyed some very good beverages. We had a party of 6 and with the two apps and 4 alcoholic drinks our tab was $90 so not too bad. Why didn't we come here sooner? Food, drinks, bartender, oyster shucker, music -- top notch. We walked in during happy hour. What a great experience. Signature drinks on special for $5.  I enjoyed the Captain's Martini which is the house infused cracked black pepper & olive vodka, with dry vermouth and blue cheese olives. Then the Cucumber Jalapeno Margarita with tequila, orange liquor, agaves, lemon, lime, cu uber and jalapeno caught my eye. Both delicious! My guy was enjoying a nice IPA.  And, Thursday's are 1/2 price bottles of wine!I started with a 1/2 dozen gulf oysters expertly shucked by Herbie. At happy hour they are a mere $1 each and served with all the great accompaniments including fresh grated horseradish upon request. My guy said he had the best burger (Captain's Burger) since we moved to this area three years ago.  It was a chuck-short rib blend with bacon, roasted tomato aioli, onion straws, cheddar-jack cheese, & arugula served on a brioche bun. The fries were fresh but overly salty.  I tasted the burger and agree with him. I ordered the seafood fra diavolo. It was prepared with tomato bacon broth, clams, mussels, tiny shrimp, andouille over linguine with grilled bread.  It was decent but had too much much going on. I am not saying not to order but there are many other choices on the menu to try. The garlic toast was overly salty. We had lots of fun and were able to chat with our bartender/server, Shara, until the bar filled up.
