What a fun place! They were very busy. They were hosting a LARGE group of middle school volleyball players, but the staff still were very polite to us! The facilities were undergoing renovations but everything was accessible, tidy and well marked. We would definitely stay here again. The room was a very large room, simply and nicely appointed. Stayed for a dog show. First time I have stayed at this hotel for this show. I must say it is my new go to when in Topeka! Clean, quiet and the staff was friendly. There were a lot of dogs in the hotel and the staff was very pleasant about it. Super convenient to the convention center, good food in the restaurant and plenty of grass for the dogs to play. This is a very nice hotel, the staff were very friendly. We were there for a huge event and waiting for our turn to check in, there were three people working to get everyone checked in and they all did so with smiles on their faces. They did a great job and were very helpful when we were looking for local restaurants to try. There is a really good restaurant in the hotel, as well. We've stayed a couple of times and will again. We stayed at Capitol Plaza last week, as my husband was in Topeka on business. Upon arrival, I wasn’t sure about it because when we got to our room, there were no soaps or washcloths in our King suite. Housekeeping was quick to resolve this and brought the items right up to our room. After this small issue, things were fine. We ended up staying 2 days longer than we originally planned, and the staff was terrific. Because of our unplanned extension, I ended up having to use the guest laundry facilities, and could not get the detergent vending machine to work, I found a hotel maintenance employee, Brian & he quickly came to the rescue by bringing me detergent and dryer sheets, & asked if there was anything else he could do to help me. When I had finished my laundry, and went back to my room, my key card would no longer open the room door. I went down to the desk and the desk clerk was apprehensive to issue me a new key as I did not have my ID (it was locked in my room). I was not too upset as I know that is standard protocol. As we were trying to come to a resolution, Brian happened to walk by and he vouched for me and said he had taken detergent to me in the room just an hour before. So once again he came to my rescue. Jesus in the restaurant was also an amazingly nice person! I talked with him every morning at breakfast. He was so helpful and pleasant and kept the coffee pot full. We will stay here again the next time we are in town on business. More...

We stopped here based on Yelp reviews. Â We were greeted by Scott who was wonderful and accommodating with a sense of humor. Â IN need of food and drink this Hotel offers both. Â We went to the bar and was greeted by Roy who was all by himself and was hot all at once with lots of customers. Â He still managed to give great customer service and make awesome drinks. Â He did it with a smile and patience. Â Our meal got mixed up and he reported it to the manager and took blame for it. Â So nice of him and we were comped our meal after devouring the delicious salads we ordered. The room as clean and the bed was quite comfortable. Â I would stay there again. Â Dont be scared of the outside appearance. Â Inside is quite nice and cozy! More...

The Capitol Plaza Hotel Topeka represents great value in a hotel. We stay here about 4 times a year and have never had a bad experience. The rooms accommodate a king size bed, and a soft sleeper for the kids, or you can opt for two queen size beds. The hotel offers free parking, a pool / spa, work out room, a bar and restaurant, and free Wi-Fi (although the Wi-Fi is incredibly slow). The real gem here is the friendly staff - they are genuine and always helpful. More...

This was my first time staying at this location and with the hotel chain. Â The staff was amazing and easy to access if I had a question. Â The room was very spacious as was the bathroom. Â I ate in the restaurant downstairs and the French Onion Soup and garlic mashed potatoes was amazing! Â The one downside was during the evening and into the night the internet kept dropping. Â However that could be explained with the number of rooms and guests that could have been on property. More...

Today we had the Easter brunch at Capitol Plaza Hotel. I chose it because they serve Douwe Egbert coffee. We didn't have to wait in line. The food was hot and tasty. My husband was disappointed that it was only "breakfast foods" like scrambled eggs, bacon, custom made waffles and omelets and biscuits and gravy. We used to go to the Ramada Inn and in his opinion they had a wider variety of food. But there were two lines of food plus a table full of desserts and I thought it all was good. The wait staff was attentive and did I mention they serve Douwe Egbert coffee?!!!!!! More...

This was definitely one of the pricier venues for a reception in the area, but I didn't have to worry about a thing the day of the event. If it's important to you to have everything (including set-up and clean-up) taken care of for you, that's where the cost becomes worth it. Our guests commented on the great service as well. More...

I loved our wedding reception at Capitol Plaza Hotel. The food and venue were both wonderful. My only issue was that the extremely expensive food was taken away before I could even finish my plate (and I was the first person through the line). There was so much food left over and most of my guests (including myself) were planning on going back to get more, but they insisted on taking it away. The main reason I chose to do a buffet instead of a plated dinner was so that everyone could get plenty to eat. It would have been nice to know prior to my wedding reception that there was such a short time limit on the food being available for my guests to eat. However, other than that one issue, it was beautiful and I had a wonderful time. More...

Our stay at the Capitol Plaza was fine. The room was an average double with the exception of no microwave or refrigerator. We were greatly disappointed returning to the hotel near 11:30pm after our event the bar was closed (11pm) on a Monday night. Between the eight of us 2 1/2 bottles of wine were taken to the lobby. Eight adults/ 2.5 bottles of wine. We were not there to get drunk. We were informed we could not have any alcohol since the bar was closed. We were sent to (one) room to chat & snack...Eight people in one small room even using our "inside voices" well - I would not have wanted to the the neighbors trying to sleep. More...

So I don't understand all the horrible reviews for this place. Â Just spent the weekend here for the Kansas Equifest. Â Had read reviews and was expecting the worst but was too convenient to outweigh the risks. Â Hotel was not 5 star but pretty much normal conference hotel. Â It was full for the event so staff was very stretched. Â Room was clean, soap shampoo towels etc as expected. Â No issues. Â Can request a room off of the atrium area in the wing if on a rowdy weekend. Â It was definitely a rowdy crowd in the Lounge Saturday night. Â I'm not sure how. Â My only complaint was the food service in the restaurant and lounge. Â We wanted to have a beer Saturday early evening. Â Wait staff was inattentive and distracted. Â Very poor. Â Only reason they didn't get a 5. Â Made our drinks and we could see them sitting their ice Melting and beer getting warm on the bar while waitress chit chatted with the bartender for 20 minutes! Â Finally got up to get them ourselves and she laughed and ran them over. Â We didn't eat in the restaurant but Friday night our friends did and took over an hour to get their food. Â They said the service was terrible. Â Breakfast was done in the conference area due to the volume of people and was very well done and food wasn't amazing but very high quality and comparable to what I would have expected. More...
