Jena educates and trains owners as well as dogs. She has utterly transformed my relationship with my two dogs. I've had dogs my entire life and never knew what they needed from me until now. They actually look to me for leadership. I've learned so much from Jena, and it's just the tip of the iceberg. I've started to re-think everything I thought I knew about what makes a happy dog. Thank you, Jena Weiss! More...

Jenna Weiss is the best dog trainer we have ever encountered! One of our dogs would take the food not only off the table at dinner time, but out of a guests hands if he or she was eating a sandwich! No matter what we did, our dog would not stop. Then Jenna came into our lives and in no time (like one evening) our dog no longer ate from the table nor stole food from our guests hands or plates!!! It was a miracle. Our second dog is a rescue and we think she may have been abused. She was afraid to jump in the backseat of the car and my husband needed to lift her. On time with Jena the dog jumped right in the backseat and was so proud of herself. We can never thank Jena enough for making our dogs lives and ours so much better!!! She is the very best!!! We have a yellow lab who is now 15 years old. We have a black lab that is almost 12 years old. Jena trained them both and they were like 'perfect little soldiers' after her in home training sessions. No barking, jumping, etc. I highly recommend her, and the Doberman(s) she brings along as role models. More...

Working with Jena has been a very educational experience for me. Being a psychologist I work with human behavior all the time. That should translate to understanding and working with our dog Bodhi, right?... wrong. Jena's insight, knowledge and calm expertise in working with me & Bodhi, has helped me to feel more confident and bonded to our dog. I look forward to continuing my work with Jena and having Capital Dog Training as my go to resource in working with Bodhi. More...

I have made two excellent pet decisions for our family. We adopted a beautiful dog we named Terra, and I called Jena to help us have the peaceful, happy, safe home that we wanted and needed to have.

I called Jena when Terra began to show aggressive pack-leader type behavior towards me, and occasionally my children. She was difficult to walk on a leash, and honestly I had begun to be afraid of the dog because of her aggressive outbursts.

Within minutes of speaking with Jena, I knew I had found someone who was truly highly trained, professional and sincere in her commitment to helping us train Terra to be a member of our family.

Jena knows what she is talking about and if you follow her instructions you will clearly see that. It is not easy. It takes time, lots of time, and effort. We listened to her evaluations, we are doing everything she has told us to do- every day- and the dynamic of this family with this dog has completely changed. She is now the dog we always wanted to have.

Jena Weiss understands and helps both dog and human behavior with incredible insight, patience and humor. As experienced dog owners, we were surprised to find our new puppy was more than we could handle, and we were beginning to think we might have to return him to the breeder. We sought Jena’s expertise when our puppy was just three months old, and over the next few months, she helped us in ways, I would have never thought possible. After careful observation and many thoughtful questions, Jena displayed uncanny insight into our new dog’s behavior. The dog immediately responded to Jena’s confident leadership and clear direction, and she taught our family to set boundaries and consistently reinforce proper behavior. Jena was able to work with every member of our family—three kids, age 2, 7 and 12, and two adults who thought they already knew how to train a dog. She was able to explain the reasoning behind what we had to do in words and metaphors that made sense to each of us. We instantly knew we were in very capable hands, and as we worked with Jena our admiration for her experience, skill and innate dog sense grew exponentially. She helped us train our dog to be the loving, gentle, under control member of the family that we so desperately wanted, and along the way, Jena became a trusted friend. She is always available by phone to listen to new concerns, and she never tires of explaining what needs to be done with a calm, wisdom that instantly makes you feel empowered and confident about taking control of the situation. Hiring Jena was one of the smartest things we’ve ever done for our family, and she is worth every penny that she charges and then some! We are already dreaming of a second dog, and hope to bring in Jena to help us even earlier in the process with puppy selection and introducing the new dog to our home. Jena Weiss is a savvy, capable, compassionate person who goes about her work with humble confidence. She gives a family the gift of having a loving, mutually satisfying relationship with their dog, and really, what could be more wonderful than that? She has our eternal gratitude. More...

One session with Jena is so much more than a full 6 weeks of classes elsewhere (I know.....I did local dog classes before finding our dog training savior, Jena. ...). It's also far more effective than pure positive reinforcement. This balanced training approach using both positive reinforcement and correction and also using the dynamics of the dog/human relationship is fabulous. I'm convinced that if there is such a thing as former lives, Jena was a canine in one of hers---her instincts with dogs and her ability to profoundly communicate with them is astounding. Thanks, Jena, for giving me the gift of an increasingly well behaved dog! More...

When I first contacted Jena I wasn't sure I would be able to keep Darcie, my miniature schnauzer puppy, whom I love. In about 3 mos. of training Darcie is obeying much better, learning to walk properly on a leash and, despite our common traits of independence and stubbornness which cause us times of stress, I know for sure that she belongs to me and I to her. Without Jena's calm, confident demeanor and her depth of knowledge about dogs (and people) and how to work with them and her gracious patience with me, I don't know that I would be so confident today that I AM able to keep Darcie & not go through the heartbreak of seeing her go to another home. I can't begin to thank you enough, Jena. More...

I've been able to really understand and enjoy my dog with all her help. She's fully engaged and present to the reality at hand. I never expected to find someone so bloody smart to help me train my crazy Dalmatian puppy! Lucky us!!

Oh, he's just a puppy" ....... I'm sure you have heard that a thousand times. Well, we have had 3 other "puppies" over the last 40+ years and are true dog lovers. "We" thought we had it covered - that "we" could do it ourselves since "we" had been so successful before. All "we" had to do was crate train our puppy and hope he wouldn't destroy our home before he turned one -

I would just have to make sure my husband didn't have to much fun playing tug of war, excite our new puppy with his comings and goings and that I would not panic every time the puppy was invited wherever my husband went in the house - including carpeted areas.

Our dogs always turned out to be great family members even though they might have gotten into trouble along the way.

Ask my friends - No one would have ever thought "WE'D" need a trainer. Even my VET thought my dogs were wonderful.

Thinking I had the normal training covered 'cause I was so good with dogs :)
I had made a few calls regarding "therapy dog" training for sometime in the future.

I visited on site locations around the Hartford area. I watched puppies get socialized and spoke to trainers - No one nor anything impressed me. AND THEN I CALLED JENA!

She was not high pressure. I wasn't interested in getting a trainer for a puppy. I thought Trainers were for people who never had a dog before, have troubled older dogs or want to teach dogs tricks. Why would someone need a trainer "for a puppy" who was high spirited, ate his food veraciously (without taking a breath until he was finished), went crazy with happiness when he saw anyone, ate everything in sight from the sidewalk or grass (ugh), pulled on his leash, mouthed our hands, not coming when called, jumped up on everyone and everything, blah, blah, blah. "He's just a puppy" Don't they always behave that way?

Jena asked the right questions which made me reevaluate how I went about training my puppies. Interestingly after my first conversation with Jena I called her back. Jena was the most insightful person regarding behaviors of dogs and behaviors of their owners. She educated me about dog mentality and pack behaviors.

I still was unsure that I needed to pay someone so much money to help me train my puppy. I could wait and "if I needed help when my dog is older" I would hire someone to train my dog.

I spoke with my husband about my conversation with Jena. He too was unsure what a trainer could do to help "us" raise a puppy. I wasn't totally sold yet, and certainly my husband had his doubts. And then my husband started to "play" with his dog :) .....hmmm, I thought maybe Jena could train my husband.

I thought a lot more about what Jena said. I was unsure about some of my answers to her questions. I called her again.

This time we made an appointment to meet. Not just with me, but with my puppy - and yes with my husband.

There I was standing in my kitchen with my puppy, my husband, and Jena. There was a lot of conversation. Even though we had agreed to the sessions I could tell by my husband's body language that he hadn't yet bought in to what success Jena could provide. I'm sure my body language was no different than his for the first half hour or so. And then something happened.

Jena showed us with her body language how she could communicate with our puppy, without saying anything, to get him to do what she wanted. Within 5 minutes our puppy no longer mouthed or gulped down his food. My husband and I stood with our mouths hanging open - and big smiles on our faces. Who would have believed it? certainly not my husband if he hadn't seen it with his own eyes.

Jena then showed me what I had been doing that also encouraged bad behaviors in our puppy. She was there to train ALL of us :)

Jena gave us homework to practice with our puppy until the next time we met. Because we were now believers, we did our homework and we saw great behavior changes in our puppy and each other. Jena covered many other aspects of training methods over the next few meetings. We followed her instructions and it was absolutely amazing. 100% compliance = 100% success.

Over the last 2 weeks I have been preoccupied with many responsibilities which took me away from the consistency of my behaviors with my puppy. Guess what? He had started slipping. He stopped coming when I called. I just heard someone say, "he's just a puppy". It isn't that he's just a puppy, it's that I had not followed through with my responsibility as the "leader of the pack". I had failed in my consistency of requiring my puppy to follow my commands. I'm back on track, so therefore so is everyone.

There is so much more to say about Jena and her ability to help all people/dog relationships. I will say that Jena has more than helped our puppy, she has given us the joy of raising a puppy, the calm of a peaceful pack. "We" know that she is worth every penny for her instruction.

Thank you Jenna!!!!

Jena totally deserves all these 5 star reviews! She is worth her weight in gold! My wire-haired pointing griffon has problems socializing with other dogs. So, anytime the possibility of meeting other dogs comes up, I simply avoid it. But when my daughter got a pup and Ozzie clearly was less than enthused, I panicked. Jena showed me how becoming the leader of our pack could calm both Ozzie and me! Ozzie adored Jena and obeyed her with little prompting...this was eye-opening for me! I learned more in my 3 sessions with Jena than I ever thought I knew from the 30 years I owned dogs! And Ozzie and little Peak, while not outright romping together, are at least social and I have no fears when they are together. I am truly grateful for Jena having come into our lives. More...
