One of my favorite Chinese restaurants! The food is pricier than your average Chinese food, but the quality of food here is so good. Some of my favorite dishes include the house special fish filet (fried crunchy and tasty), French style beef, shrimp with walnuts, steamed fish filet with tofu, and their green onion lobster. Canaan was the pick of my friend so we came here for lunch. It has a wide variety of options, hard to categorize as a particular cuisine style. We ordered a couple of appetizers and a couple of dishes. Beef rolls was okay although I was surprised to find cabbage in it. The skin of XLB was tougher than I expected. Stir-fried green beans was spot on and the fried fish filet was good too. Serving portion was appropriate for the price. I had to ask for chili sauce since they were not on the table, perhaps because we were there just as they opened at 11am, their first customer today. Overall it deserves 3.5 stars. Honestly, working in West Covina, I didn't expect much out of Chinese food places here, but I end up here multiple times a week. Customer service is excellent and the food is pretty good. Joy and her team are definitely some of the nicest. Located in the 85 degree McIntyre Plaza off the 10 fwy next to Dog Haus! I am quite content with the options here. The pricing is a bit more than your usual average Chinese restaurant but it's not your typical Cantonese restaurant. This is based off Shanghai-nese food and more than usual, the dishes are cooked fairly spicy. Of course you can choose your spice level from Mild to Spicy. I always get mild and somehow, there's no spice. Lol Regardless, I am UBER HAPPY that I don't need to drive down to SGV to get myself some beef rolls! I search on Yelp all the time and 101 Noodle Express is the only place I would usually get my fix! This place has what I want!! Scallion pancakes, different colored dumplings, XLB (Xiao Long Bao), etc!!! The only thing that gets me is the fact that I'm not able to order these items on my lunch break. I use this app to order food and unfortunately they only offer lunch specials that are A La Carte served with Rice or Fried Rice an $1 extra. I was lookin forward to beef rolls and scallion pancakes for lunch but I guess I'll just have to get it for dinner instead. The yang chow fried rice and mapo tofu had the best flavor to it! Mapo tofu wasn't spicy and it was very flavorful! Yang chow fried rice wasn't cooked with a lot of soy sauce and it like light! Very good to eat! The shrimps are huge too! I enjoy having dinner here with that cast iron teapot they have. LOL Make sure you get those biceps before you offer to pour that tea! LMAO! Another note, they charge $1/bowl of rice. At Cantonese restaurants, they don't charge for a container of rice but I mean... rice is expensive so $1 really isn't anything for a bowl that's literally as big as two small bowls combined! We've been here a few times. We usually order way too much food because we want to try as many things as possible. The salt and pepper shrimp and the beef roll are by favorite dishes from here - very flavorful! My husband really liked the beef broccoli and the kung pao chicken. We also ordered the house special lobster the first time we ate here - market price at that time was over $20 per pound so it was pretty pricey. Sadly, the flavor of the dish was a bit bland so we'll go elsewhere when we have a specific craving for house special lobster. Overall, we would keep coming back. Just had lunch. Wonderful, fast and very friendly service. A pleasure to eat here. Now with the new hours, we can have lunch on the weekend there. Food has always been flawless. Extensive and delicious menu without having to go to one of those giant banquet hall dim sum restaurants. The restaurant is located in the plaza right off the 10 freeway in the 85 Bakery plaza.
