First time visiting CANA Cuban Parlor & Cafe in Oakland and it was a good experience. CANA is located on the northbound side of Lake Merritt not to far from the Grand Lake Theater. CANA Cuban Parlor and Cafe, just as it sounds in the name is a restaurant inspired by Cuban dishes, culture, folklore, and spirit. The Cafe sears around 50 folks comfortably and serves authentic Latin America inspired dishes for those with varying palettes. There are two large flat screen tv’s that stream sports, a decent size bar, friendly staff, and on Sunday’s live music. If you ever visit on Sunday, it’s nicknamed “Sunday Funday,” because of the live music, encouraged salsa dancing, and unique menu catered to the Sunday audience. There is a brunch menu available from open until 3:00 pm, a specialized drink menu, and Sunday specific dishes. Today, my wife order the Salmon and I got the Havana Salad with grilled chicken. The salad was great and I’d definitely recommend trying it. Good spot for a casual date or brunch with friends/colleagues! My only complaint is that our food took entire too long to come from the kitchen and our waitperson was friendly but a bit absent minded. Solid eats and drinks. Enjoyed the tostones with garlic sauce and veggie empanadas as appetizers. The veggies in the empanadas were diced small and married with the sauce in such a way that resembled a meat consistency and was so flavorful and juicy - really well executed. The shrimp and grits were equally tasty, though I only got through half. My dining companion had the spinach Benedict, from which I tasted the hollandaise, and it too was flavorful. I just celebrated my 23rd birthday here and the vibe was so lively and fun. I ordered their daily special salmon plate it was AMAZING! I literally scraped my plate the only reason I wouldn’t give a 5 ⭐️ rating, is that the service was very slow... not as if the servers weren’t attentive, they were, but everything was made to order and take 45min plus.. my grandma was the first one to order her chicken dish and her meal came out last.. the young server Christian was a sweet kid, was keeping up the best he good, maybe they need more help in the kitchen? Love their Salsa Sundays and brunch, though a little pricey. I used to really enjoy their jerk chicken as well, but I think they changed up their recipe and reduced portion size in the past couple of years. Cuban coffee in the cafe!

Remodel is now "familiar friend". With good weather, sidewalk seating is low volume but great with surprisingly little interruption by passersby, so it has a plaza feel.
