I've had several guitar teachers. Jennifer is the most response and enthusiastic of the lot. I've only had 4 lessons but it is going well.

Q&As

I love being able to help people achieve their dream of being able to play an instrument. Music is such an important part of our lives, and being able to create it on a musical instrument, is so much fun.

I have been a music teacher for the past 30 years. Teaching was always my passion, and having my own music studio from the start just made sense.

I think that my years of experience with students of all ages and skill levels, has made me very good at knowing how to structure the lesson so that the student's objectives are met, all while having fun, laughing a lot and enjoying the lesson time. I am a really light hearted, and want my students to love learning and realize that they are capable of so much more than they realize.

I offer my teaching exclusively online. I can reach eager students from all across Canada this way. It is in my opinion such a great time-saving way to learn music in the comfort of your own home.

online lessons are as socially distanced as it gets :) no worries to catch colds, flu or covid.

Services

Starting from age 9 to adult, you can learn classical, popular, jazz, blues or a little of each. I adapt the method you learn to your musical preferences and strengths. You can learn to play the songs that interest you while learning how to:

- read music

- develop your ear

- read and understand chords

- learn technique and musical theory

- sing and play at the same time (if you wish)

don't worry if you know absolutely nothing in music, that's often the best place to start. All you need is a keyboard of some sort. The better the instrument, of course the more enjoyment that you and your ears will have, but it isn't necessary to start learning. I have students that own grand pianos, and some that have small portable keyboards. The goal is to make some music!

Starting from age 9 to adult

You can learn to play acoustic or electric guitar, in classical, rock, metal, blues or popular. You will learn

-How to read music notation in the traditional way
- Musical theory as it relates to guitar
-How to read tablature and chord charts.
-Learn how to play chords so you can sing along or accompany others.
- Styling for different types of music hammer-ons , pull offs, slides, bends
- scales and understanding the fret-board for soloing and improvising
- advanced chord structure 7ths, suspended, etc
- How to play finger style

Don't worry if you have never taken music or guitar lessons before, most people have not. All you need is a love for music and a guitar. You can use a classical guitar (with metal and nylon strings) a traditional acoustic guitar or even an electric.

If the lessons are for a young beginner, I recommend starting with a 1/2 or 3/4 size classical guitar (whichever is appropriate for their size) since it will make it far easier for them to reach the notes and have a proper posture.

Starting from age 9 to adult, Contrary to what you may have heard, Violin is not the most difficult instrument to learn, and you can start at any age and enjoy playing. you can learn classical, traditional fiddling, popular, jazz, blues or a little of each. I use many methods, but I really like Vamoosh and Suzuki, I adapt the way you learn to your musical preferences and strengths. You can learn to play the songs that interest you while learning how to:

- produce a nice sound on the violin

- use proper bow technique

- play with accompaniments or with other musicians

- read music

- develop your ear

- read and understand musical symbols on sheet music

- learn technique and musical theory

- care and maintain your instrument

don't worry if you know absolutely nothing in music, that's often the best place to start. All you need is a violin that is the right size for you and a bow. The better the instrument, of course the more enjoyment that you and your ears will have, but it isn't necessary to start learning. I have students that own very expensive instruments and some that have inexpensive instruments. The most important thing about a violin, is the person playing it. My favourite violin is an over 100 year old beat up violin, It doesn't look that pretty, but it's my favourite. The goal is to have fun and make some music!

Starting from age 9 to adult, the cello is a very beautiful and rich sounding instrument that you can learn quite easily. You may have heard that it is hard to learn, but actually it is not. You can learn to play classical, popular, jazz, blues or a little of each. I use many methods, but I really like Vamoosh and Suzuki, I adapt the way you learn to your musical preferences and strengths. The better the instrument, of course the more enjoyment that you and your ears will have, but it isn't necessary to start learning. I have students that own very expensive instruments and some that have inexpensive instruments. A starter cello is a little more expensive than a violin, because it is a larger instrument, but the most important thing is that you obtain an instrument so you can start playing. Often I have students that rent one for a few months before committing to purchase one. The goal is to have fun and make some music!

Starting from age 9 to adult,

Sometimes lessons in person, in the studio are not possible because of distance, poor weather, if a student is feeling ill, time constraints, or lack of transportation. Online lessons are the perfect solution for these situations. It is easy and fun, and you can learn to play your instrument in the comfort of your own home.

I teach online lessons with a free application called ZOOM. It is like your Skype or FaceTime but better designed for online meetings like lessons.

You don't need to make an account with Zoom, but you do need to download the application on your device so I can invite you to our lesson. It is available for window, OSX, iPad, iPhone, and Android tablets and phones. You can download ZOOM here

I will schedule the lesson and send you a login link for your specific time that we have chosen.

You pay for each individual lesson by PayPal, or interac e-transfer before our lesson. Because spaces are limited, cancellations must be done within 24 hours to allow me a chance to either re-schedule or put another person in that place. Last minute cancellations, are non-refunded.

TO GET STARTED

You will need :

- A computer that has a web-cam, or a tablet, or even a smartphone. (the larger screen is more pleasant to be able to see the lesson better from your end)

- A good high speed internet connection

- Your instrument (piano, keyboard, guitar, violin, cello, or just your voice)

- A printer so that you can print out sheets that I will send to you.

-colored highlighters and a pencil to write things on your music

-a speaker or sound system for playing with accompaniments while you practice is not necessary, but really makes your practice so much more fun!

If you have questions about how it all works, and wish to even try a quick connection test, we can try it all out before you schedule your lesson. :) sometimes it takes a little adjusting to place your camera in the right way etc. but adapting to the online environment is quite easy, and you will get the hang of it quickly.

And you will be playing songs in no time.
