I have an uncomplicated situation, which requires a simple, straightforward will. This was drafted quickly, and witnessed by the solicitor. Easy, stress free process, but the storage fee was not alluded to until afterwards. This should be discussed upfront along with the fee so clients are made aware of this extra cost. My will in England was stored for free, so this came as an unexpected cost when I moved back to Scotland. More...

Ideally consultations are carried out face-to-face where I can discuss all our services. Understandably COVID rules have restricted such meetings. When taking instructions remotely I tend to concentrate on the core subject, Wills or Power of Attorneys for example, to get document drafted timeously, then discuss associated services later. It has not worked well in this case and I shall contact the client to apologise and resolve. We do have a storage service with an annual fee payable that includes free reviews and re-writes, but it is not mandatory.
