Liz from Cakebuds is simply amazing!! She made our wedding cake for us and i’d like to share our experience.We did some research on suppliers for our wedding cake and Cakebuds happened to offer a taste box with 8 cake flavours which nobody else seemed to do. We were eager to try them so ordered this and were delighted with the variety and the taste of all the flavours. We booked an initial consultation which involved trying another 4 flavours of our choice (yes they did not disappoint either!) and discussed our ideas for the outer design with Liz. She offered some great advice on how the different styles we liked can blend together in a tasteful way, a fake tier to give it more substance without any waste and after the consultation she sent us 3 sketches of cake designs to choose from based on what we had spoken about. They were all very imaginative and beautiful. The cake on the day was exquisite, the design we chose was quite elaborate and each tier was a different flavour but everything was even better than we expected. The cake was on display all day and it didn’t change in any way structure or colour wise. By the time it came to the evening and cutting it, it was still so moist inside and each flavour tasted divine! Well, where do I start! From the first tasting and consultation, Liz has been superb, nothing too much trouble. During the consultation, I’d described classic cake with a difference, Liz understood my vision straightway and provided many sketches and recommendation to add character, like rough edges, gold leaf and marbling effect! The sugar flowers which matched my bridal bouquet was beautiful! Gosh where to begin. Liz is an extremely professional and creative cake creator! From our first appointment to discuss ideas she was fantastic. So when I presented her my ideas of a crazy cake - she said sure let's try this! This included making a dragon with a beard and glasses on. All throughout the process she was communicating to say how it was going and she most definitely delivered. That was the greatest salted caramel cake ever - full of flavour. From the minute we first got in contact with Liz it was clear that she was going to produce something spectacular for our wedding. The initial consultation was fantastic - so many great flavours to pick from and she listened to the theme of our wedding and really thought well about something to compliment the day. The most delicious and perfect cake. We went round in circles looking at cakes for our wedding Earlier this year and randomly came across Liz at Cake Buds, where Liz made everything so simple. Being able to order cake samples was amazing and we really didn’t imagine how good the cake would taste. Liz made our wedding cake - it was amazing. We'd actually booked a 3 tier cake and about 2 weeks before the wedding upgraded to a 4 tier as we couldn't drop one of the flavours. Liz even made for us a banana layer which is soooo good. What do you love most about your job?
The thing I love the most is hearing all about my couples wedding plans at their Tasting Consultations. This enables me to design a wedding cake to suit their particular style and ultimately creating a centrepiece that is both stunning and delicious.
What inspired you to start your own business?
So, how did CakeBuds originate? Well, since a young age I have always enjoyed baking. However it wasn’t until my daughters first birthday in September 2016 that I started baking celebration cakes. Family and friends then asked me to make cakes for them, so I taught myself to decorate cakes using books, Pinterest, YouTube and other online tutorials. The feedback I received was overwhelming which ultimately encouraged me to set up CakeBuds in summer 2017.
At the start of 2018, I decided to expand my business into wedding cakes. Expanding into wedding cakes has led to many exciting opportunities such as styled photoshoots, becoming a recommended wedding supplier for several wedding venues across the south of England and winning the title of South Central Wedding Cake Designer/Maker of the year in The 2019 Wedding Industry Award.
It was not until the end of 2018 that I truly started to feel like I had found my own style in cake design. I was finding that more and more couples were breaking boundaries when it came to planning their weddings. Everyone was trying to be different in one way or another. I soon realised that I too was being drawn to cakes which were a little different to the traditional wedding cake. Whether the cakes were minimalist, highly detailed, bold or modest, they all had a creative flair to them which made them stand out. That is when I started to experiment with different textures and soon realised that I had a real passion for contemporary cake design.
I feel like my journey in contemporary cake design has only just begun and I am super excited to see what the future holds.

There is so much choice nowadays when it comes to designing your wedding cake that it may seem like a daunting task. Long gone are the days of the traditional white wedding cake as more and more couples are pushing the boundaries and opting for something a little bit different. Whether your looking for something that is colourful or neutral, bold or modest, detailed or minimalistic, I will work with you every step of the way to ensure your wedding cake is individually designed to suit your particular style, ultimately creating a centrepiece that is both stunning and delicious.
