I’ve started training with josh and I absolutely love each of my training sessions. I have a great trainer who truly understands my needs and knows how to motivate me. I needed to loose a few kilos which I had put on over the years after having had 2 children and neglecting myself. I wasn’t sleeping properly or eating healthy. I was always tired. Josh is knowledgeable about all aspect of fitness and gave me some excellent advice regarding nutrition. He inspired me to change my mentality about food and I’ve now got into a more natural and healthier habit. The first 30 days where pretty hard having to change eating habits and fitting in sessions in my busy schedule but when I started to see the results I was motivated to make this a permanent fixture. I regret not doing this way before but it’s never too late I suppose after seeing the massive difference it has made on the scales and by measurements but more than anything it’s all about being fit and healthy. I decided to start training with Josh as my own training had become non-existent and I wasn’t enjoying being in the gym. Since training with Josh, my love and enthusiasm for being in the gym, getting a sweat on and working hard has come back with a bang. In the 5 months that have passed since I took the plunge, a worthwhile plunge, my fitness, strength and power have improved more than I thought possible. Josh tailors the sessions to what I want to achieve. I don’t want a six pack, I want to be fitter, stronger and more mobile. I have done this and will keep doing this and more by continuing to train with Josh down at MSC Performance. I’m proud of how far I’ve come in the 5 months I’ve been training by Josh, my deadlift and squat are at all time highs, up at weights I never thought I’d be able to do! Great coach! As a regular gym goer, I was looking to improve my techniques and to learn some new stuff. Josh built up a training plan suited to my needs and to maximise my weakest areas. I have been training with Josh since a couple of months now, and I am really impressed with what I have achieved in just these 8 weeks. I was able to squat & dead-lift my BW withing 5 weeks of training without any backpain. The way Josh has taken me through various progressions has really helped me to master some of the compound exercises, which ,if done wrong, can do more harm than good. The best part abut working out with Josh is that apart from having a talyor made routine for my goals ,he constantly motivated me push my boundaries, which otherwise I was not doing. I’d like to highly recommend working with Coached by Josh. I contacted josh predominantly looking to get into a regular training routine while developing my technique and strengthening my weaknesses, aid in nutrition and dealing with the constant back and knee issues - I was getting with work. By teaching me to activate my core and glutes, I could already feel them getting stronger with each session. With complete encouragement and praise, my technique is getting better even when I doubted myself constantly. Also, within a few weeks, my knee and back pains were barely noticeable. Prior to my session Josh had drawn up a training plan and nutrition template for me and we discussed how I could reach my goals. I learnt so much in such a short space of time and was really pleased that Josh had tailored everything to my specific needs. Unfortunately I don’t live in the area, but if I did I would have no doubts about training with Josh regularly - I couldn’t recommend him enough! When I first got in touch with Josh, he was very thorough in firstly trying to understand what I wanted to achieve with my fitness goals as well as getting a clearer picture of my lifestyle outside of the gym. The programme that Josh designed for me took all these factors into account, working on the building blocks to enable me to achieve what I wanted. Josh is a great listener and that was the aspect I enjoyed the most about training with him, that it was a two-way-discussion and not just being given a one-size-fits-all template. I am very proud of the ‘quality’ work I learnt with Josh; he focused a lot on tempo work and quality over quantity, which meant that I was injuring myself less and getting my form and technique on point. In the past months of training with Josh I did more than I ever expected from me and my body, I gained 6kg in less than 8weeks and I m really pleased with that, before training with Josh I was training in a commercial gym but I had no confidence or ambition to train with weights. . but Josh made me do that and it is worth it, now I have the confidence to train with weights and it’s the best feeling. Right now i’m doing the small group sessions and I really enjoy it, i get to meet nice and friendly people that make trainings more fun. I contacted Josh as I wanted to create a more effective training plan at the gym and improve my exercise techniques. I’d like to highly recommend working with coached by Josh. I contacted josh predominantly looking to get into a regular training routine and dealing with the constant back issues I was getting with Work. Whilst also losing a little weight and getting stronger. I’ve been training with Josh early mornings, which slots easily around my ever changing work pattern. Josh created a workout that works at strengthening my weaknesses and imbalances whilst also being enjoyable and creating a tailored nutrition plan. Within a few months I am no longer having any work related back pain. I am consistently training with the motivation to do more. All of my compound lifts are increasing in weight week by week and i have lost around 5kg in weight. I cannot recommend Josh’s coaching more highly. My background was mainly in rugby but I was developing an interest in Olympic Lifting. Josh took this on board and really got to grips with my goals and tailored a program to really fit in with where I wanted to go. While being programmed by Josh he was constantly checking in and adjusting my program as well as offering coaching tips to improve my form and mobility. After 8 weeks of working with him I’d made improvements in all my lifts as well as improving my cardiovascular fitness. Josh also takes a holistic view on coaching and helps with diet, sleep and mobility injury prevention. Working with josh I definitely felt like I had more energy, was sleeping better and I wasn’t getting the niggles I had previously. Before starting my programme with Josh i was enjoying running and playing netball and although I knew both these things would improve by incorporating some strength training I had little idea of what exercises to do. After chatting to Josh I set my goals - improving my 5km time (aiming for a sub 25min park run) and loosing 4 km of weight. My programme involved a mixture of strength based and running interval sessions and using the My Fitness Pal app helped me keep track of my food intake. This was helpful to highlight how much damage falling in to the weekend pizza/beer binge can do aswell as helping me make good food choices especially while trying to increase my protein intake. I was pleased that I achived my goals - shaved 3 minutes off my 5km time and lost 4 kg and was surprised how much my core stability and hip strength improved. I've known Josh for around 6 years, through playing rugby together at university and training together.

Josh has been programming for me for 4 years and I can honestly say that I've not looked back. Josh' s programme has helped me recover from a torn achiilies playing rugby, to now returning to training in 9 months.

With Josh' s guidance and expertise I'm now olympic weightlifting and squating again. I would 100% recommend Josh to anyone looking to take their health and fitness seriously.

What separates Josh from other coaches I've worked with in the past, is his ability to put the client first and use his knowledge and encouragement to create a specific programme to meet their needs. Josh isn't afraid to push his clients out of their comfort zones in order for them to achieve the best results possible.

I have been coached by Josh and would not hesitate to do so again or recommend him to anyone else. Outstanding, understanding, assessment, knowledgeable, positive, limits, progression, safe, technique, posture, planning, programme, research, interesting are all attributes that you could use for the man. I met Josh through a contact in Judo after I was looking for some help with pre-hab on a hip condition prior to having it replaced! The pre-hab was amazing and I learnt so much that I had never considered or knew of. Its led me to a greater interest in the science of the human body - as mine slowly falls apart!! We continued with re-hab after the hip-replacement and things went really well. I always felt safe with Josh and he kept the sessions fun. I also really appreciate the way he researched my requirements and I felt the training was very specific to my needs. I first met Josh at university. We were both studying Sports Therapy. After a while we began training together and since then he has developed himself into one of the best trainers I’ve had the pleasure to meet and work with. I hate it and I love it at the same time. It took my one glance to decide it is my gym. Why do I love it? I really like the music, and the fact it looks a little bit like an 'underground' gym. It is a perfect place if you are dedicated to work hard - no redundant equipment. Coaches with the outstanding knowledge, experience, and skills, but what is more important - they exactly know how to instruct others. They also present very positive attitude. It is worth mentioning - they are not afraid of feedbacks. They are not sitting and celebrating what they already achieved in this place, they aim higher every day. Team members in the gym are also friendly, and atmosphere is just great. I enjoy being there.
What do I hate? There is only one MSC and other gyms are far behind.

This is got to be one of the best gyms in the country by far! Not only is the equipment amazing, but the coaches and staff really know their stuff and are always there to help. I’ve been a member of MSC Performance for around 6 months and it’s been the best discussion I’ve made in terms of my health and fitness.

The facility is by far the best in Birmingham. The investment in equipment to allow a whole host of training options is brilliant. All of the staff are extremely approachable and knowledgable. Always on hand and willing to offer a little advice on your lifts or a conditioning exercise to help progress your training.

MSC also offers a number of class training option every day. I haven’t got involved in these yet, but I’m looking forward to.

In my experience a very friendly, community feel that is purely there to make you better.

Great coach with an outstanding ability to appreciate and convey the intricacies of movement. This was particularly useful to me as a beginner not only to weightlifting, but, to the gym in general as it helped me gain a greater awareness of my body during training. Josh is a highly motivated and adaptable coach who has been able to help me develop and become more confident at the gym. The coaching sessions overall have been a very rewarding experience. It is incredibly satisfying to see myself grow stronger through these sessions. I particularly appreciate the effort that is placed in understanding and noting down my progress at the gym. This has been done through the use of FitBot which lists the details of your program as well as your past achievements in certain movements. The use of a videos to capture and relay my movement during sessions has also been highly useful for my improvement. Overall, I would highly recommend Josh to anyone and have been very lucky to have such a great coach. Starting as a true beginner with Josh after five months of training I have decided to take part in my first powerlifting competition.

I went to Josh with the goals of gaining confidence in lifting and improving my overall strength and performance.

We had one-on-one sessions every week and he also designed me a personalised structured program that I could work with outside of our sessions. The training sessions and program progressed over the weeks to greatly improve my performance ... to give an example when we started training together it was a struggle for me to deadlift 60kg without breaking my form, however within 10 weeks I was able to lift 84Kgs for reps!

Josh is very knowledgeable about what he does and was able to clearly explain to me the importance of the exercises we were doing in the warm up, the techniques required for the lifts, how I could improve my form, what he could see was limiting my performance etc, all from just watching during our sessions.

I quickly learned that training to improve performance was extremely motivating, rewarding, and yields great aesthetic benefits too! I looked better, felt strong and would definitely recommend coaching by Josh.

We realise that fitness should be personal. We do fitness to look, feel and perform better and ultimately live a larger life to accomplish extraordinary achievements.

Clients of Coached By Josh achieve their fitness goals with the support of myself by their side throughout the entire process. I design the clients fitness journey so that they make progress inside and outside of the gym on a weekly and monthly basis.

Whats the first step to achieving my fitness goals?

An initial but detailed consultation between myself and the client takes places so that trust and a relationship can be built. Current nutrition and lifestyle habits are discussed along with fitness goals.

What happens after the initial consultation?

The client will undertake a series of physical assessments to measure their limitations and current ability. This allows me to deliver the correct exercises within the programme so that the client remains safe, but also include exercises that will help achieve the clients goal.

Whats next?

Once I have all the information needed, I create a training programme designed around the clients goals which is either delivered through personal training, small group training or remotely online.

By having weekly exposure to myself, a training programme designed around your goals and advice on nutrition/ lifestyle habits within an exciting but supportive gym environment, clients achieve amazing results.

Taking accountability for yourself. Yes, I can tell you what to do in the gym for an hour. But you have the remaining 23 hours by yourself by which to make a positive impact to your lifestyle and nutrition.

Will-power only gets you so far. Building a habit over a period of time will last you a life time. Be smart, and make small positive changes.

The secret to looking, feeling and performing better is consistency with exercising on a weekly basis, eating good nutrition along with the support of myself by your side and a community of similar individuals with the same goals motivating each either for success.

I get a tremendous amount of self satisfaction seeing men and women accomplish extraordinary achievements in the gym, and then use their new found strength and fitness to perform tasks that were once unimaginable, outside of the gym.

In a society full of fitness businesses, celebrities and Instagram models trying to sell quick fixes and fast track transformations we are neglecting to teach the individual a vital lesson.... hard work and consistency!

How is it morally right to feed from someones insecurities and market specifically to them that they can have their dreams come true in just 8 weeks or if they take this magic pill all their problems will be go away?

A band aid solution should not be adopted within fitness. It should not be marketed to the mass that a life full of poor nutritional and lifestyle habits along with little exercise can be remediated in as little as an 8 week transformation.

If anyone is to be successful in their life long fitness journey, it should be educated that it takes years of nurturing and growing through a learning process.
The lesson is to love the journey and realise the progression within the gym corresponds to the growth that we encounter through our lives as we mature.
