I started training Jiu Jitsu at BUDO in Feb of 2019 and I haven't looked back since. As a small woman with zero martial arts background, I was definitely very nervous and intimidated my first day on the mats. And my second. Actually I was a nervous ball of anxiety my entire first month. But thanks to the encouragement of the instructors, Professors Anthony and Mike, I kept coming back and before I knew it I realized I'd become part of a family. I recommend BUDO to anyone and everyone who wants to get out of their comfort zone and change their life for the better. More...

Over 2 years ago, I was a 51 year old couch potato with zero martial arts or gym experience. My son, 11 at the time, wanted to take MMA classes at Budo. He heard a lot of good things about Budo. We convinced ourselves to go together. I was very anxious prior to our first class. Our first class was a Muay Thai class with Chris. It turned out to be a great experience. Learned lots and had a great workout. We were hooked. We have since attended all the Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu classes. We can honestly say that we have never had a bad experience with any of the classes or instructors.Overcoming our fear and showing up at Budo has been the best decision. It has also been a great father/son bonding experience. I couldn't honestly be happier with my decision to land into Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under the graceful and skillful eye of the head instructor, Scott Boudreau.I'm learning things about myself that I didn't understand or know prior to taking up this martial art. The support of Scott and his two other instructors Michael and Anthony is amazing. I can't say enough positive things about this dojo. Jiu-jitsu is an integral part of my life and Budo has become like family to me. Here are some of the many reasons to join Budo:1. Positive environment and cooperative training. Of course sparring is as competitive as you like, but there's a huge focus on techniques and empowerment and keeping the students safe. Egos are left at the door, and the instructors ensure poor attitudes are kept in check.2. Great place for women to train! As a female grappler, I often worry about being treated inappropriately (everything from rude comments to grappling excessively aggressively, or the inverse) and there is NOTHING like that here. A steady crew of women attend classes here, and for good reason.3. Advanced technical instructors who posses a great wealth of knowledge and are eager to share. My experience is specifically with Jiu-jitsu; Scott, Mike, and Anthony are exceptional teachers and grapplers. They are clear in their explanations and provide lots of feedback.Everyone at Budo is friendly and helpful. The best way to know if a gym is a good fit for you is to stop by in person - and I can't recommend this place enough. I will be training here as long as I am in Vancouver. Oss! More...

The studio owners and instructors are all trained in and are practitioners of their respective disciplines, so they pay attention to and help you correct your technique. The skill set in the kickboxing classes range from newbies to trained fighters, so it's not intimidating if you want to try it out for the first time nor is it too boring if you're a trained fighter.I've definitely noticed an increase in my confidence and my fitness levels.
