"A New Standard in Mental Health Care": that's putting it mildly. 24 hours wasted in trying to figure out what these folks offered and for how much. A 30 minute phone text intake form, followed by a 2 hour online intake form, only to be told that the rates quoted in the form (which they admit is out of date) weren't valid. Their text messages are themselves contradictory. Probably better to have found out before having wasted more time. More...

Dr. MacMillan saved my life. She is readily accessible and is the most personal psychiatrist I have ever had.

A good outfit. The staff is pleasant and easygoing. And Dr. McMillen goes the extra mile for her patients. If you're seeking TMS this is a good place to go with a nice facility and relaxed atmosphere.

Dr. Macmillan and Dr. Muir, and their excellent staff for that matter, may very well have saved my life. I'm 57 and my diagnosis is treatment-resistant major depression. Since junior high school I've been in and out of psych wards, detox tanks, rehab resorts, halfway houses, and many, many emergency rooms, and I've seen what seems like an endless parade of psychiatrists, some of them so pricey one wants to gargle Drano. Over the years they tried almost all the chemical treatments out there (both legal and less than quite legal), but nothing had a strong or lasting effect. For the last two years, though, the doctors at Brooklyn Minds have given me back to myself -- partly with the Deep TMS treatments, but just as much with interesting and perceptive discussion and by their going FAR above and beyond what the average therapist would bother to do. They've been available at odd hours, they've worked with difficult health-insurance providers, they've helped me with life choices and behavior issues, and they've done a hundred other things. I can't thank them enough or recommend them highly enough. Oh, by the way: Just now I noticed some very recent, very grouchy reviews, on a few different sites, that purport to be from different people but which sound suspiciously similar in their phrasing, vocabulary, far-fetched claims, and general nonconsecutiveness. My strong guess is that many or even all of them were written by the same person -- the mother of a patient who was treated at Minds a few years ago, who's recently filed what reads like a completely cuckoo-for-Cocoa-Puffs lawsuit against the clinic (covered in some of the local papers) and who seems to have been harassing them in other ways too, although I couldn't get anyone to say much about it. Maybe we'll find out more sometime... anyway, caveat lector, and thanks for reading my review.... More...

I have learned so much from Drs. Muir and MacMillian. I have not been a patient of theirs but have been to several of their lectures during psychiatric conferences and have integrated their teachings into my practice. Their capacity for empathy is inspiring, and it's clear they take great pride in providing the best and most comprehensive care for their patients. More...

Dr. Muir accepted me as a patient when most other psychiatrists saw me as a liability. He worked with me patiently and calmly and accepted my input as valuable. If something went wrong, we worked together to fix it. If he wasn't available, Dr. MacMillan or someone else in his practice made time for me, even though I would insist I didn't like anyone I didn't know. The administrative staff was friendly and worked hard to get to know me and my quirks, which sometime make me not the easiest person to go. Brooklyn Minds is a safe, patient, sane, highly highly educated place to go. If I asked for research regarding a particular treatment, it was waiting for me. If I brought my own, we discussed it. If I disagreed, my opinion was very much taken into view. Dr. Muir and his team have helped me to make my life a whole lot more fun, sane and comfortable place to exist, while at the same time prioritizing my independence above all. More...

I am a patient and frankly this is the only doctor that I trust. Extremely intelligent and ethical , really cares about his patients well being and not quick to shove medication down your throat. Really likes to grasp what the underlying issues are plus does blood work to see what genetically fits your biological disposition. I've recommend many people to Dr Muir and those that actually took my advice are extremely greatful. I think I've said enough More...

Dr. Muir & Dr.MacMillan are soo professional and acommodating, I can do FaceTime when out of town (I travel a lot for business), it's great to be able to still have your therapy when away. Since I started therapy (a year ago) my relationship at work improved, especially with my boss. I went to Dr. Muir for my medication, he changed it (I was gaining too much weight before), then I decided to try therapy with Dr. MacMillan, each one helps you in a different way. I'm doing much better, I'm another person compared to last year. I highly recommend them, they really care. They're savvy in social media which is a big plus for me. I'm doing great with mentalization, which is new in the US, but Dr. MacMillan & Dr. Muir are ahead of everyone, they trained in the UK. I like that they're open minded & willing to try every possible angle to help you heal. Dr. Muir's group therapy is helpful too. He teaches you how to be a better you, how to change your lifestyle for you to improve, since they cannot change your environment. I enjoy their offices, they're welcoming. More...

Dr MacMillan is a unique and phenomenal doctor. Devoted to her patients in a way rarely seen, especially in doctors in this day and age, she goes beyond the extra mile to make sure her patients improve - real and noticeable improvements. Her professionalism in rare. Courteous, she inspires trust in her patients and in their families. She gives hope to her patients and their families, and she makes sure, she doesn't stop until she delivers it. I highly recommend Dr. MacMillan, especially to those who believe there is no hope; this is when you get new hope. From a mother who had not only lost all hope, but who thought that I had lost my child as well. What a difference Dr Mac Millan made in less than a year. Definitely on top of the best doctors in the US if not in the world!"Dr Owen Muir is an exceptional, meticulous, really caring and compassionate doctor. We have had every treatment possible, all over the US in the best hospitals and only became worse. With Dr Muir things changed 180 degrees. He is a serious professional, always on time like a SWISS Clock, his beautiful office with its wide windows is conducive to feeling better. I recommend Dr Owen Muir to anyone who Is looking for a psychiatrist to treat for their mental health, or even just to help with their day to day issues. He is the Master Yoda of psychiatry. I rarely give reviews and do not recommend anyone, but here I believe I had to. Dr Muir has been doing a tremendously hard work and helping our entire family improve. A+++++" More...

Dr MacMillan is the best therapist I have had after 10 years of therapy all over. (More on Dr Muir below) Their treatment is worth every penny even if you don't get reimbursed by your insurance. That you can go back to live a normal life is worth it. And much more. Thanks to her I'm able to live a life, get out of bed, go to work, have a social life and be happy, a feeling I haven't felt in two decades. I recommend her highly, it took me a lot to recommend being that the stigma is still big. I did it because I want whoever needs an excellent and professional therapist to heal to have the same chance.Dr Muir is another exemplary doctor, who has empathy, is as caring as Dr MacMillan, highly professional and practical. I love his office, it has so much light, it's large unlike the usual cookie cutter offices you go to. I believe this type of office is more conducive to a better therapy just like in hospitals research has shown that light with plants help to heal faster. I like the loft style, it's a great feeling to be understood and cared for by someone who understands the pain you've been going through. I hope this helps someone. More...

Worth every penny. I recently contacted Dr. Muir for a second opinion regarding a treatment dose I was taking (in this case, a 30 day course of medication). Not only did he respond immediately, but he gave me all the data points I needed to compare with my other physician. In the end, I took Dr. Muir's advice and presented it to my initial doctor, who ended up agreeing with Dr. Muir, saving me a battery of unneeded tests and medication changes. It was a simple modification. I stayed on track till the medication was done, and felt amazing after it was over. My problem cleared just as Dr. Muir said it would. His case knowledge is flawless and his bedside manner is neither stand offish nor aloof. He is a great combination of caring and effective without being hard to reach or difficult to understand. He makes treatment work. For these reasons and more, I will never recommend anyone else but Dr. Muir. More...

Dr Muir is by far the best doctor hands down and the only doctor that I trust as he saved my life. Our brains are very delicate and it wouldn't be wise to put the trust of something so relevant to our existence in the hands of an undertrained practitioner. Dr Muir is the doctors doctor and from my personal experience is an expert with diagnosing your specific issues with pinpoint accuracy and then he has the ability to properly ascertain without doubt the exact method of treatment to help you obtain emotional well being. My situation was a difficult one as I was withdrawing from benzodiazepines and the many doctors that I sought help from , were misdiagnosing me. I was living in what I like to call a black hole and I was experiencing the very end to my existence. I lost my family , job and sanity and I thought that my life was over. Dr Muir was compassionate and confident that he could treat me, and was available by phone to consult me through this very hard time in my life. His confidence in his ability to treat me was the difference between life and death and as of now I am feeling great again. I am now able to live my life and I owe it all to Dr Muir. Don't second guess your mental health , because the wrong doctor will make you substantially worse. Heal quick and heal right with the best doctor hands down in NYC. More...
