Q&As

I think there are a couple keys:

Patience and persistence: For event photography, particularly, where everyone may not feel ready nor want to have their photo taken, one might have to revisit and try several times before the scene/people are comfortable being photographed.

An open mind: My goal is to always capture the emotions in the moment, pay attention to what/who folks value, and create images that will feel authentic to or resonate with client and their audience, This might be different than my perceptions prior to the session/event so it's important to stay flexible as an event or session progresses.

I love to hear about a client's vision, goals, ideas for project, about their audience (clients/customers, friends and family, whether it's a personal project), the challenges they face (timeline, budget, logistics, creative blocks etc), how they like to work and how I can help them achieve the photographs they want.

I love learning. I enjoy learning about people, hearing their perspective about their culture or life, listening to their stories and getting to know their family and friends. I also love learning about people's taste in photography, what types of photos they value, what are the photos that exemplify the result they want or would make them feel the way they want. Lastly, I love learning new skills and photography offers many opportunities to solve old problems with new approaches, adapt existing skills to solve new problems and apply a mix of old and new to whatever surprises arise along the way.

My mother worked in journalism and was handy with a camera. I grew up photographing with our family's cameras. A few years ago, when I left the corporate job to explore the options, I figured I would enjoy meeting and working with others as a photographer.

Clients should choose me if they are looking for an experience where the photography adapts to their event with an emphasis on documentary and candid style photography. This approach allows them to focus on their party and enjoying the overall experience in the moment minimizing the amount of photographic direction they receive during the event.
