I've been working out since the end of high school, and have always been in pretty good shape. For the last few months, however, I had just been going through the motions because I'd lost motivation. After my first session with Bret, I felt the fire inside me light up again! He pushed me to my limits, but also evaluated a few injuries that had been bothering me since I was in a car accident last summer. Now, I'm feeling strong & focused! More...

I was hanging out with a friend in San Diego for a girls weekend and she asked me to come with her.  I have worked out all my life - personal trainers - nutritionists for years.  I was sure I knew everything.  Was I ever wrong.  I took home a routine that I can do on my own at the gym and at home here in San Clemente to get the last 5 lbs I have been struggling with since my daughter was born. Though I have not personally been trained by Move Strong Studio, I have visited the studio a number of occasions and have seen the owner working with his students. The studio is IMMACULATE which is a good sign and he was VERY accommodating with the students he works with, from elderly students staying in shape to young students training for sports teams. He seemed to know EXACTLY how each type of student needed to be worked. He gave me a quick demonstration and I was impressed by how much I felt the quick moves he taught me. I do plan to work with Move Strong as soon as possible! More...

I love working out with Bret. He pushes me but with a gentle hand. I never feel abused - tired maybe but not that I over-worked myself. Plus his knowledge of healthy eating has helped me change my diet for the better. More...

My husband and I took Bret's challenge to get fit and Move Strong! Loved it! His program got us back on track to an exercise and eating program that was just what we needed. What surprised us the most, was that the simple but structured program helped us gain strength and start loosing weight with changes that we now have adopted as our lifestyle. That is key! Do it! That is what I recommend - It may be just the plan that will improve your health that you have been looking for. More...

I was referred to Bret by one of his old clients who I met at a social and was having some interest in the TRX training system. I've used TRX at gyms and with other personal trainers, but this was completely different experience. Bret takes the time during his consult and analysis to really see which areas I needed to concentrate on. He actually created an individualized plan for me. I have been seeing Bret now for 4 weeks and I finally have more balance and gait stability than ever before. He should be working with high level athletes. More...

I've know Bret for a while now. He's very pro and knowledgeable. He's successfully avoided fads and kept focus on core health and strength fundamentals. My Aunt also experienced amazing results working with him. I'd refer Bret, without blinking, to anyone thinking of getting some guided fitness training. More...

Bret Smith is excellent at his craft. Move Strong Studio is easy to find, easy to park, reasonably priced, and best of all, you get Bret helping you achieve your fitness goals. I took his "21 Day Challenge" to jump start my fitness goals, and overall it was a terrific experience. Bret works on what is reasonable and doable, rather than some crazy diet or exercise plan that just can't be maintained. He shows you what is the better of two choices, and why that choice is better. Highly, highly recommended. More...

I've been training with Bret at Move Strong for about six months.  I love the workouts... quick and fun but extremely effective.  The variety of things he puts in each routine is amazing.  Bret has a good eye for subtle changes in posture to get WAY more out of each exercise and he always finds a way to motivate me to push just a little harder.  Bret has helped my posture and confidence, not to mention I've dropped a lot of weight and feel absolutely great. The building is somewhat drab on the outside but Bret's studio is very nice.  Lots of light, great tunes and the location is very convenient, right on 4th Ave in Hillcrest with validated parking!  Bret is flexible and easy to schedule with.  Compared to trainers I've used in gyms, I find the individual attention at the Move Strong studio much more enjoyable and I'm getting dramatically better results.  I've reached my goals but plan to keep meeting with Bret because I just love everything about the workouts. As a 'mature' woman, I was hesitant to work on my body to make it stronger, stave off effects of arthritis, and just generally feel younger I found Move Strong Studio. Bret is extremely knowledgeable, patient and knows when to push me and when to ease up...the studio has a great vibe. It is a peaceful place to go to and be able to concentrate on the exercises without worrying about elbowing someone else for room in which to work out! I would highly recommend checking Move Strong Studio out if you want PERSONAL personal training and security in the knowledge that the trainer is so knowledgeable about training! One last note! The studio is easy to find AND there's 'FREE' parking in the building! How convenient is that!!!! More...

Q&As

Communicate and stress the importance of balancing fitness, nutrition and lifestyle strategies. I stress to my clients that real lasting change only occurs through hard work and determination and I support my clients endeavors to the fullest in order to see and feel the power of being strong and disciplined.

No big secret but it’s developing the right balance of calories in (food choice and amounts) and calories out (exercise sessions, daily activity).

Seeing my clients take hold of their well-being and embrace fitness and nutrition as a lifestyle rather than a disappointing short term hack.

I felt I could better serve my clients being independent and having the ability to be location flexible.

It’s all about chemistry and if we click you can count on me delivering my best each and every session. If you shop around and are more comfortable with another trainer then I encourage you go with your heart and instinct and make the leap.

I can provide virtual training mainly through FaceTime and I can also design and deliver workout programs to be done independently

I wear a mask at all times while keeping appropriate social distancing and encourage my clients to do the same.

Services

Individualized fitness programming designed to regularly challenge and develop increased levels of strength, endurance and durability.

Review and implement nutrition strategies that fit you and your lifestyle. The main idea here is to help you create meaningful changes consistently over time that help you create a sound practice that allows you to eat the food you enjoy and maintain healthy food choices.
