Super place to meet and chat with coworkers. The staff was very welcoming and observant. The place has a cool atmosphere. Reminds me of a restaurant in Philadelphia that I enjoyed.

Boon by Moldova is a pleasant Moldovan restaurant in Sunnyside.The restaurant is half bar and restaurant and half small banquet/event hall. The night my friend and I ate here there was a private event of some sort in the event hall area and a live band was performing. The music was presumably in the Romanian language- though I don’t actually know. The sound was sort of 80s/90s Euro rock pop. Back on the restaurant side of house, we found the service to be friendly, though slow, because there was a single server for the entire place. The food was mediocre to good. The fried Romanian cheese is essentially a triangular breaded mozzarella stick, accompanied with no sauce or flavor. Despite how amazing fried cheese sounds, I’d avoid it like the plague. Greek saganaki it is not. The pierogies were also very disappointing. They ran out of the potato and onion pierogies and so we had to settle for the cheese ones. The cheese was semi sweet and there was very little flavor of any sort. I typically love pierogies with a passion, so that’s my frame of reference. On the upside, the borscht was pleasant enough, and the cabbage pie was actually good, though cold in the middle (next time please microwave it a little longer).Toward the end of our meal, a Ukrainian photographer who was roaming around all night came by and asked if he could take our photos. We agreed, and 10 minutes later he came back to our table with multiple framed photos of us. Each cost $20. We each bought one, despite not really wanting to. So just know that it’s very awkward to decline when he’s table side and it’s probably best to just avoid photos altogether. All in all, a strange and fun five-star experience, with three-star food. It has great Romanian Moldovan food. It's reasonably priced, great portions and spacious. It is great for any time of day or any occasion from casual dining to formal occassions like a birthday party and or baptism. It's really versitle in the back. We weren't rushed as in many other places. We were able to enjoy the food and stay and keep talking with our friends. My spouse was made to feel like home. A few months back I gave this place a try and so glad I did. Great and very affordable food and drinks. I had never tried Moldovan wine before and was very pleasantly surprised. I’ve tried several things on the menu. My favorite is the Boon Salad with arugula, beets and avocado in a fresh lemon dressing with grilled chicken. They also have a very good skirt steak. Veeeery good food! Romanian-Moldovan cuisine, one of the best I've ever had in the field. Very decent prices as well. I recommend you taste the pickles, they have an impressive range of it (grapes, watermelon besides the regular tomato-cucumber). I agree that the serving was slightly unusual (waited quite a long time for the appetisers and then finally got them almost in the same time with the main dishes) but the waiter was nice.
