We have just come back from a stay at Blackadon Barn Cottages, I booked Blackadon Barn Cottages about 8 months in advance, we had excellent communication through email and phone with Jacky, she was very accommodating and flexible with bed arrangements. ||||I was emailed local guide and things to do and detailed directions. || We stayed in Buzzard Barn, Heather Cottage and Farm Cottage between 31 of us. The place was lovely and the cottages were very clean and all bedding and fluffy towels were provided smelt fresh.||||The kitchens were supplied with kitchen tissue rolls and bin liners, and very well supplied utensils and plates and glasses more than enough for our stay.||There were Irons available in the laundry room. There was a £1 charge for the washing machine (we didn’t use). There were hairdryers available to use also. ||There was also Wi-Fi in the lounge area and a games room (table tennis) and a selection of board games, which also had a large chest freezer. ||||The good thing is all the bedrooms have an en-suite however some en-suites were better than others, some were just plastic shower cubicle with a plastic door, the beds were very comfortable. Toilet rolls and handwash were provided in the bathroom. ||Personally I think the main kitchen upstairs would have benefited from a commercial dishwasher rather than a domestic one, like many places I have stayed in large groups this helps out having a ( 2min wash cycle). ||||The only criticism I have is to get from upstairs to downstairs you had to go through Heather cottage thus disturbing the occupants alternately walk around the outside, so a strange layout. We’ve just enjoyed Easter weekend celebrating a 70th birthday with 20 people. This is a simply brilliant area to spend the weekend. The accommodation is excellent with a large communal area for groups to enjoy. All bedrooms have good sized en-suite bathrooms. The kitchen is incredibly well equipped. ||The local is area is stunning too as the farm is adjacent to Dartmoor - our children enjoyed climbing the nearby tors to get a stunning view of Dartmoor, the South Hams and further afield our to sea.||Since being here we have enjoyed an evening in Plymouth and a day at Bigbury-on-Sea.||We will definitely be looking to come back. We booked their large Buzzard barn for a family birthday celebration weekend for 22 people. The whole experience, from enquiry to leaving was awesome. Easy and straightforward booking. Easy to find, large well equipped rooms, excellent sized kitchen with tons of crockery, cutlery and pots and pans. Huge fridges and freezer storage and large tables and plenty of seating. The house was warm and their was plenty of hot water. Dogs are welcome and loads of open space for walking them. The owners were around and available if needed, but not in any way pushy or awkward. I would totally recommend them to anyone for a small, private weekend away or a huge family party/getaway. Thank you for your hospitality. More...

We stayed in buzzard cottage. It has 10 bedrooms, over two floors. Unfortunately there is no access between the two floor internally and if you want to go between floors you have to walk all the way around which was a bit of a pain. Upstairs the rooms for the most part were nice and spacious all with on suites. A really well stocked kitchen that can easily accommodate the size of party expected. The dinning area and Livingroom were brilliant easily fitting all 20 of our party. It was lovely to find a place that can accommodate such a large group and have the space for us all to eat together. There were a few minor issues things like gas rings not working on the cookers, one rooms sockets didn't work. Downstairs was a bit damp. There were only two black bins for all of the cottages which isn't really enough with them being able to accommodate over 30 people. There is wifi however in most of buzzard cottage upstairs and down it couldn't be connected to as the signal was too weak. Although you don't go on holiday to go on the internet it is sometimes essential for finding local attractions etc. Parking is limited especially with there being 20 of us with 5 cars and other guests. Some of the cottages have allocated spaces but buzzard cottage has none and it did feel a little like all the cars were in the way. The owners were very welcoming and very helpful with advice about places to go and things to do in the local area. I've been really picky here to give you a good idea of the place but a 4 star rating is well deserved especially for the price. More...

Arrived at buzzard cottage, blackadon barns as a surprise to celebrate my 30th birthday. Over 20 of my friends and family (plus dog) joined me and all agreed - this is an amazing place to stay. ||Warm and welcoming staff who were on site and immediately on hand if any problems arose (we had a slight issue with the heating). ||Cleverly renovated to comfortably accommodate so many people. The family room was one of the best we've ever stayed in. The towels and linen were of good quality and smelt beautiful-clearly freshly laundered before our arrival.|| Kitchen and lounge areas were large and spacious which was perfect when we all congregated and partied! ||Peaceful and quiet surroundings with absolutely stunning views and gorgeous areas to walk and explore. That said, there are shops and attractions only a short car/bus ride away.||Washing lines and benches outside with a barbeque area for the summer. We were unable to use it as it was the wrong time of the year but no doubt would be pleasant if you were visiting in the summer or a longer stay.||Stargazing is a must if you are there on a clear night. Would be perfect to view from a hot tub but sadly they don't have one....perhaps something to think about for the future ;-).||Would HIGHLY recommend visiting blackadon barns & will certainly be returning again.||||N.B - (if you have children) that the downstairs rooms are well away from the kitchen/dining/living areas upstairs and only accessible by walking through another cottage or by walking around the outside of the building. If you intend to put your children to bed then continue to socialise, you will be best with one of the rooms 'upstairs'. More...

Having just returned from a truly wonderful long weekend visit to Blackadon Barn cottages, I wanted to immediately thank Mark & Jackie for such a memorable stay. The accommodation is fantastic and all that is required to make for a very comfortable visit. All of the essentials are met...comfortable beds, hot decent showers (and a bath), well equipped kitchen, spacious living area and all of it, warm and toasty. |And then there's the location!! Sited right on the bottom edge of Dartmoor, a very big, wide, open space, this could have been rather daunting to explore independently, but Mark came to the rescue taking us on a guided walk. I was literally staying as close as possible so I didn't miss a word of his interesting, knowledgable commentary that took in geology, history, archeology and the rest... |Overall a great stay, in well equipped, clean cottages, with very helpful, accommodating hosts. We stayed in the New Buzzard cottage for a weekend with a large group of friends. The lounge/ kitchen/ dining area was perfect with plenty of room for all. The people running the place were very helpful, dealing with a problems very fast and very friendly as well. The only thing that was a bit funny was the bedroom layout, there are 10 ensuite bedrooms but half of them are not reachable internally. Their are five bedrooms directly off the main living area and then five more below which can only be reached by going outside and walking around the side of the building and crossing a courtyard. It didn't really matter for us as we had only one young child with us but the the downstairs bedrooms would definitely have been too far away to leave children asleep in while adults were up in the evenings. I think this should be made clearer on the website as it was basically 2 'flats' rather than one cottage. More...

We stayed here for a 40th birthday weekend organised by our friends who live in Devon. We were a mixed group of couples, singles, people with children, dogs etc. and what a great venue it is for a group weekend. It has everything you need, bedrooms with bunk beds for older children, cots for younger ones, bedrooms out of the way for those who go to bed earlier. The kitchen is brilliantly equipped with amazing pots which make mass catering easy. But if you don't want to cook, the best bit is Mark will cook food for you...! This is the second time I have brought a group of hikers to Blackadon. Besides the wonderful accommodations, Mark & Jacky Walker are the best hosts! They were attentive to all the needs of this diverse group, offered to make reservations at local restaurants and just went over and above our group's expectations.||||Mark's knowledge of the nearby area and it's rich historical antiquities made educated us all and made our hiking on the moor that much more enjoyable as we saw the items that he had first explained to us.||||Don't hesitate to stay with them. This is a premier destination in the minds of the 17 of us who stayed with them and became their friends as well as clients. We will most certainly be back! More...

My husband and I were part of a group staying at Blackadon. The owners are a delightful couple and made us feel like family. Our particular plan included wonderful meals prepared by them. The cottages are simple, comfortable rooms, the area beautiful and we loved every minute of this trip. More...

My husband and I stayed here for a week with a group of 17 like-minded hobbyists. The old stone buildings, lush landscape and comfortable areas outside to relax and enjoy the amazing views from are only part of the charm. Jackie and Mark are the most delightful and accommodating hosts who are so knowledgable about the area both historically and geologically--Mark knows all about the ancient land there. There are indoor rooms to enjoy with plush furnishings, TV, laundry facilities, large eating areas, etc. We had them prepare 2 meals a day for us and they were outstanding! (Mark's a great cook!) We couldn't recommend more highly this wonderful property More...

13 of us stayed at Buzzard cottage for a walking weekend. The cottage had ample space, the bedrooms all very clean and lots of showers. The kitchen was well equipped and again lots of room. The location was perfect for us: able to walk straight on to Dartmoor and just a short drive to the coast. Our hosts could not have been more helpful with plenty of advice and information about the area. More...

Had a fantastic stay here. Would really recommend it. We stayed in Farm Cottage and were really impressed with the facilities. There is lots to do in the area and the pubs are particularly good.||The pictures on the website don't do the place justice. We're sad that we had to leave. Thanks for a great stay. More...

We spent a wonderful week in Badger cottage which was spacious, light and well equipped. Very well situated just off the A38 and you can just walk out of the back of the cottages and walk directly on to the moor. There is also wonderful views from the grounds of the property over the surrounding countryside. Jackie and Mark went out of their way to make our stay brilliant with their specialist knowledge of the local area, which included not only local places to visit, but also detailed walking and bicycle trails. Our party included elderly people and so we also needed some easier walks, which Jacky was able to help us with. We had an excellent meal cooked by the family and I would highly recommend them! I can't stress enough how, having the owners going that 'extra mile' to help advise you is invaluable. We would thoroughly recommend this quiet and tranquil setting for any type of holiday. More...

Off the beaten track although close to A38 and on the edge of Dartmoor. Stable Cottage is designed for a couple but there is a sofa bed in the sitting room. Extremely quiet location and comfortable accommodation which although not luxurious is most adequate and it is very good value. The courtyard was most attractive and was an ideal spot for breakfast or to read quietly in the sunshine. We were lucky to have a week of stunning weather which made it all the more enjoyable. An ideal location for visiting many local beaches, Totnes, Dartington and Dartmouth. Masses to do and see in the area for families as well as "young" and "older" coupples. A good find! More...

Shire Cottage accommodated three families, easily. The bedroom layout is linear at the back and allowed everyone to have their own access to shower and toilet - very important on this holiday! ! Lounge ideal and spacious with an adjacent dinning room and large fridge. Kitchen was cosy but had everything we needed. We did have access to WiFi (at the front of the property) although this was sometimes temperamental due to others usage on site. The courtyard offered a lovely outdoor space for sitting quietly (although I dare say we were probably the loudest occupiers!) along with a top terrace area for a bbq and fantastic views. The children enjoyed exploring the wooded area and visiting the chickens, goat and geese. The laundry room, opposite the property, served it's purpose well along with a selection of local information.||||Owners were very happy to help and advised on routes onto the moors. There were a couple of issues with heating of the showers and a water leak however, these were attended to quickly. I would say that the property could do with some re-fittings but on the whole we were very pleased with our accommodation. ||||Location wise you could not ask for a better position. Straight on to the moors for walking and kite flying. Ivybridge was only 5 mins drive for provisions. Plymouth was about 25-30mins drive; we went there for the aquarium and the Championship Fireworks display which was shown that week. About 20 mins drive to Totnes and 45mins for Salcombe beaches. ||||All in all we had a super week and would recommend Blackadon Barn Cottages for a large family get together. More...

We recently returned from a 5 night stay, staying in Badger Cottage. Lovely properties, very clean and very well equipped kitchens. Our toddler loved having all the space to roam around in the large living room! Highchair and travelcot was provided which was really useful as it saved us bringing our own. I will say that the travelcot has had a lot of use and the bottom didn't seem very flat meaning our little one didn't sleep very well - if you are staying here and require the cot I'd recommend bringing some extra blankets to give it a bit of padding. The main bedroom was really nice - lovely 4 poster bed and very comfy bed! Didn't use the ensuite however the shower looked very roomy. The main bathroom was light and airy and loved the shower! ||The cottage is located a few miles from ivybridge and easy to find however I'd recommend NOT going up the very steep hill next to the pub! We met a car coming down and had to do a scary parallel park to make room, with millimetres to spare!! ||Great location for exploring South Devon - highly recommend Dartmoor Zoo! More...

I spent three months at Blackadon Barn Cottages from September to December in 2011. This place, set in Dartmoor National Park, is wonderful and unforgettable! ||||There are loads of things to do or places to visit. People come to go for walks, cycle, do bird watching, visit the coast (only a few miles away), go canoeing or even to have a game of golf! At the same time the place is close enough to a small town (Ivybridge), so you can do your shopping without worries.||||Especially the walks along the amazing coastline are so stunning you will never forget and will always want to come back.||||I enjoyed every single day of my stay also because Blackadon Barn Cottages are cosy, well-equiped, and always clean - I stayed in 4 of them. Besides that also the people who run the place are nice to talk to and they always try to make you feel at home. Greatly recommended! More...

We spent a few days here in Stable Cottage (which was converted from the old farm stables) in May 2012 and had a fantastic time. The accommodation and facilities are excellent and the location is perfect for the moors and the south Devon coast. Mark and Jacky are the perfect hosts; very friendly and welcoming and Mark knows the moors and coastline like the back of his hand so you get excellent advice on where to go and what to do. If you love the peace and tranquillity of the countryside, the sound of birdsong, fresh eggs for breakfast, healthy walks on the moors or cliff-side paths, fantastic local pubs then Blackadon Barns is hard to beat - it's a gem of a place and one of the few locations we'd go back to again and again. We stayed for 3 days in Stable Cottage this week (Aug 2012) on holiday celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary. ||||The cottages are situated in Moorhaven, which is right on the edge of Dartmoor above a village built from a converted hospital. The cottages themselves are converted farm stables, and have been renovated and refurbished to a very high standard.||||The owner's son, Tim, gave us a very friendly welcome, and was most helpful in lending us maps and a rucksack and recommending which routes to walk and which restaurants to visit.||||The walking is truly spectacular, within 20 minutes you can be on top of one of three peaks behind the farm, which afford panoramic views of Dartmoor and the surrounding countryside. During our walk, we found a natural spring, and there is an abundance of tumuli and barrows, and a row of bronze age boundary stones.||||Each cottage has a fully equipped kitchen, a TV and DVD player and a CD with a DAB radio. The owners keep a stock of DVDs which you can borrow.||||As the cottages are a converted stable, they are arranged around a square which gets a good bit of sunlight during the day. There are benches and tables outside, and enough space that you can chat to your neighbours if you wish, but still enjoy a bit of privacy if you prefer.||||Off to one side there is a spacious bit of lawn with more benches and tables, where you can sit and enjoy the view.||||The accommodation is of a very good standard for the price, and when combined with the location and the friendliness of the owners, Blackadon Barn Cottages make for an excellent place from which to explore the South Devon countryside in all its beauty. Stayed with my family, 2 adults and 3 children and got a great deal on a 7 double bedroom cottage! Enormous and well equiped, clean and tidy and a great base for exploring Devon, owners were very nice and helpful. The cottages are right on the edge of the moors and the moors can be reached via a path and this is a great explore for the family, the barns themselves are really secluded and tucked away from the hustle and bussle, Ivybridge town centre is about 10 minutes drive down the road and has all the usual town facilities of shops, takeaways, pharmacy, etc. Plymouth is about 30 minute drive and beaches sort of same distance. As a family we loved Blackadon Barn Cottages and would recommend this to other families and would not hesitate coming back. More...

If you are looking for good quality accommodation in the Devon area then look no further. This was our seventh stay at Blackadon in as many years, seeing each cottage being transformed by the owners Jackie and Mark. This visit we stayed in the latest addition Buzzard Cottage, which sleeps up to 17 and offers plenty of social space for large parties. Within the area you have access to a local pub (approx 20 minute walk), a Tesco local in Ivybridge (5 minute drive), Plymouth is approx 40 mins drive. In terms of outdoor activities, there is an abundance of walks adjacent to the farm and a golf course.||I would not hesitate to recommend this holiday retreat. More...

We have stayed in several of the cottages here, over the last few years, depending on how many of us were staying. Most recently we stayed in Buzzard Cottage which has been recently refurbished, with new paintwork, furniture and some improvements to the bathroom etc. The cottages are very clean and very well equipped - if you need anything you only have to ask. ||Sandy and Steve (the locum managers until the owners return in September) have done a SUPERB job in looking after the cottages in the past months - they couldn't be more helpful.||The location is incredible - actually on Dartmoor, with beautiful walks and views in all directions. Yet it's not far from some decent pubs and restaurants and Plymouth is only 25-30 minutes away. Nearest nice beaches are also only 20 minutes or so away. ||Restful and relaxing - a very nice place to stay! More...

We have stayed at Blackadon 4 times now. My best friend lives in Ivybridge and the farm is very well situated for our visits, We always stay in Farm Cottage. The decor isn't very up to date but it is such good value for money, and as you're only there for a few days it doesn't really matter. The cottages are kept very clean and are well appointed with dishwasher, decent oven, fridge and a respectable selection of cooking equipment. I always take my own knives as theirs are a bit blunt. There is a washing machine and tumble dryer in the shared facilities, recycling bin and fresh farm eggs for sale at a reasonable cost. ||The farm is tucked away at the back of an old asylum (now residential use) and is literally on the edge of Dartmoor, yet very well situated 5 minutes off the A38. At night it is so peaceful adn quiet. There is a nice little garden with chickens, quail and guinea fowl to walk round and a pleasant courtyard with outdoor seating where you can enjoy your breakfast in the sun. ||We would never dream of going anywhere else, Blackadon is perfect More...

We were a mixed group of 12 staying in Buzzard Cottage. The cottage as excellent with everything that you could have wanted in self catering accommodation. All of the bedrooms were comfortable and finished to a high standard. The kitchen was great and we also made use of the BBQ area outside.
