We had a home visit with Neil and Clare and within a week I had a totally different dog. Neil showed me how to walk max as he was very anxious about everything , I can now have visitors in my house with no issues , it takes patience but with time what a difference, can’t thank them enough well worth it and great advice from Neil . Can’t wait to start training classes in January. We called in to the coffee kennel to book the classes and saw Clare she was so friendly and stopped for a chat to see how things were going , coffee and scones , yummy , do not hesitate to have a home visit it is so worth it .. Thankyou Neil and Clare we are looking forward to the classes More...

Called today for some advice on my 13 week old Cockapoo who is starting to show signs on separation anxiety... Gave me some really good advice and tips for crate training and helped me feel at ease by reassuring me that I’m not the only one (my mum guilt is bad) hopefully now I’m on the right road! Generally felt like the lady (sorry I missed your name) cared and wasn’t pressuring sales and classes on me! Thank you again x More...

I recently went to see Neil for a one hour, 121 behavioural consultation at Best Behaviour K9 in Darnell (which was very reasonably priced) with one of my dogs who is nervous. Having previously sought advice from other professionals which resulted in little progress, I had felt that the outlook was rather bleak. Neil was super; I really cannot speak highly enough of him. He immediately pinpointed the issues my dog has, offered an insight into what my dog is feeling (explaining his reactions), and gave me a tailored training programme to work on. His communication was very clear and non-judgmental, which contrasts with some of the experiences I’ve had in the past. I feel I have a good understanding of what I need to work on with my dog, and how to go about this. Additionally, I now feel optimistic about the future with my dog and am motivated to work with him in the hope of building his confidence.Furthermore, I should add that before I came to see Neil, I spoke with Claire over the phone who was extremely knowledgeable, helpful and friendly, and very generous with her time in an effort to offer the best service.I have been so impressed with Best Behaviour K9, that I am in the process of booking a class for my other, non-nervous dog. I have already recommended Best Behaviour K9 to other dog owners I know. Many thanks Neil and Claire! More...

Neil came out to see our dog Sandie as she was reacting badly with other dogs and strangers and it had got to a point where walking her or taking her to different places had become quite stressful. After spending nearly 4 hours with us and assessing what we needed to do, Neil showed us how we could work with Sandie to make her a calmer dog. I can honestly say that we were on a high after Neil left us as we could finally see light at the end of the tunnel. We started the training straight away and the day after even the postman was shocked as no barking or snarling. We know we have some hard work to do but Neil made it an enjoyable experience and I would recommend him and his team to anyone. Keep up the good work :) More...

Enjoyed my first walk today with my girl, without nearly being pulled over and my arm pulled off. It's been less than a week since our home visit and the difference in my girl is amazing. We enjoyed a calm walk, played some games on the way and loved every minute of it. She's more calm in the home, and you can see how much she loves learning new things. Thank you to Ian for all his help and advice . If anyone out there is undecided about whether to have the home visit, it's so worth it. Thank you again! More...

We had a 3hr behaviour course with our ridgeback x Weimaraner, just after a few days we were noticing a calmer more relaxed dog Our trainer Ian was excellent with extensive knowledge, he made me feel at ease with asking questions and didn’t make me feel like I had been doing things wrong. I would definitely recommend this service, the difference in behaviour is amazing and in just a short period of time. I can’t wait to see how in the long term how the results pan out. Just want to say a massive thank you for your advice recently. After visiting my daughters ( Mollie Jones - Heaton ) home we are following your instructions to the rule to improve our very loved ( but spoilt ) doggy Oskar. We have seen much improvement almost immediately and makes lots of sense. I think when of everyone gets themselves a dog it should be the law to attend a course to understand doggy behaviour. I’m sure this would stop lots of problems and less dogs been put to sleep after biting someone because people don’t understand the poor dogs warnings before biting. Humans should not blame the dog they can’t speak but try to tell us it’s us that don’t understand them. I highly recommend your training thanks again xx More...

We have been training with Neil for the past 2 years and he has been fantastic throughout! We started obedience classes with Best Behaviour K9 for our rescued German Shepherd in 2015 based on a recommendation from the German Shepherd Rescue Charity.
Initially we had a lot of behavioural issues with our dog and it is such a pleasure to see the incredible improvements since beginning our training with Neil. We also had Neil out for a home visit and he sat down and listened to all the issues we had and taught us how to address each issue step by step.
We started agility classes this year and our boy has absolutely loved it! He gets a great work out both mentally and physically and finally gives us some peace and quiet on a Sunday night!
Neil has a great personality and an excellent way of making you think around any problems you stumble across during your training. We have thoroughly enjoyed both obedience and agility classes and I'm confident our now (fairly) well mannered dog has too!!
I have already recommended Neil and Best Behaviour K9 to friends and family and will continue to do so in the future!

What do you love most about your job?
Since the birth of Best Behaviour K9, I have successfully rehabilitated thousands of dogs and provided their owners with the knowledge of how to effectively communicate with their pets. I thoroughly enjoy the new challenges that each and every client and their dog present. Occasionally I find myself being the last chance for some dogs due to their severe behavioural issues. I take great satisfaction helping owners and their dogs to realise their role in life and within the family
What inspired you to start your own business?
I am a Nationally Accredited Trainer responsible for training Police Dogs and their handlers in a variety of roles. I am an Approved Trainer and Committee Member with the National Association of Security Dog Users, training and assessing security dogs and their handlers and I hold a City and Guilds qualification in teaching. I am also a trainer with The Guild of Dog Trainers.
I have had the pleasure of owning dogs of various breeds for most of my life and I have always enjoyed the usual aspects of pet dog training. However, I began studying canine behaviour in earnest shortly after being given my first Police Dog, Mac, a German Shepherd. Mac had been re-homed due to a number of behavioural issues including serious aggressive tendencies. After learning how to read and understand dog behaviour, I successfully integrated Mac into our family and worked with him until he passed away at seven years old.

In addition to group training classes, Best Behaviour K9 offer one to one training. These sessions are usually held at our training school or at a place of your choice; your local park for example. Behavioural Visits
At Best Behaviour K9, we appreciate that when it comes to the behaviour of a dog and it’s interaction with the human family members, every situation is different.
Your dogs are expected to fit into an ever changing world that they simply do not understand. Despite being the most adaptable animals on the planet, they sometimes have difficulty figuring out exactly what you want of them.
This misunderstanding and the stress and anxiety this regularly causes, is more often than not one of the contributing factors to the unwanted behaviours. It is during this time, we can encourage the wrong behaviours if we are not careful.
