Dog Training

Janet was wonderful teaching my four children and I how to better communicate with our four-month old golden retriever, Ginger. Janet was very respectful of Ginger and of my children and me, and she used a positive training method. We learned so much during our two hour training session, and I was impressed with how efficiently yet throughly Janet communicated the information. She tailored the training to our specific needs, and it was ideal having the training in our home setting. I will recommend Janet with Best Behaved Dogs to anyone who needs some guidance with how to better communicate with their canine relatives. More...

Janet is wonderful! After rescuing a bulldog x basset hound with multiple behavioral issues, I sought out her services at the recommendation of my veterinarian. First of all - it speaks volumes for a behaviorist to be recommended by a veterinarian. Secondly, Janet used her expertise to help me formulate a plan to help my pup to be successful both at home and the vet. He struggled with feeling threatened in small spaces and she gave us expert advice that we were able to put into practice to make him more comfortable. She also emphasized actions I could take to help my dog - which is a crucial part of helping a dog with behavior issues. 10 out of 5 stars! If you have a dog who needs some basic obedience training or help with behavioral modification, best behaved dogs can help! Bonus pic of me and my happy boy on Halloween. More...

The lessons we had with Janet were really helpful. I especially liked Janet's emphasis on teaching me how to train my dog so I could continue to improve my dog's behavior between lessons. Walking with my dog Marla is easier now that she knows how to heel. More...

Admittedly I usually don't write reviews but I'm so beyond impressed with the training from Janet that I have to share. I contacted Janet for training help with my 18-month Goldendoodle and 8-month old Labradoodle. At the time, the Goldendoodle was a nightmare to walk. He pulled so hard and it was a consent power struggle. So much that one else in the family would walk him and we often left him home instead of bringing him places just to avoid the power struggle. Willow, the labradoodle was so afraid of walking that the minute we got her out the front door she did everything she could to back out of her harness and run back to the door. She was terrified and walks with her were impossible. Fast forward and now BOTH dogs walk next to me, they don't pull, and they listen to me on the walk if there are distractions. Anyone in the family can walk the dogs and it has made the entire experience of owning dogs so much more enjoyable. It took a lot of time and work, meaning Janet does give homework. So she is very knowledgeable and straight forward but if you want to see progress, do the homework and put the time in and it will be worth it! I really enjoyed working with Janet and highly recommend her services. More...

Janet is a expert in dog behavior and problem solving as well as basic obedience. Her technique and approach to training is engaging and fun! I really appreciated how thoroughly she explained the details of her theory and approach to training my dog.I have explored many methods of training and even became certified to train dogs myself! Nevertheless I was having challenges with my very smart, very confident pit bull and his desire to ignore recall commands. With a high enery dog, we need to have the opportunity for off leash running and without this solid recall, we couldn't rely on him coming when called if distracted. I tried many methods and training options, but I was at a loss. Janet agreed to help us out and I was thrilled at the immediate results! She not only trained us on traditional theory, but she helped us identify how to best adapt and incorporate real world events and rewards into the training! I am so excited to make this work for us. So far incorporating her techniques into our day to day activities is easy, fun and extremely effective!!As a dog person myself, I am extremely critical and discerning when it comes to reviewing training professionals. My background is in professional adult learning. I do not take this review lightly. I am impressed with Janet's professionalism and expertise. I cannot say that about many of the dog trainers I have encountered.I have worked with many skilled dog training professionals. Janet is by far the smartest, most professional and adaptable of anyone I have met in the industry to date. If you are looking for the best for your pup. Look no further! Janet will make your training experience fun and effective in way you could have never hoped. More...

Janet tailors each training session to meet the exact needs. She clearly sets goals and expectations, and tries various methods to find the optimal approach. Janet's keen observation skills identified multiple signs and behaviors that I can watch out for, so that I can redirect my dog's attention before she has undesirable reactions. I really appreciate how responsive Janet is - she follows-up after each session, asks about progress, and genuinely cares about how my dog is doing! More...

Training with Janet was extremely effective and all of our concerns were addressed after our training sessions. Before we committed to training with Janet, she spent time to listen to our concerns and provide her feedback. Doing so allowed us to immediately get into training the first session. She did a fantastic job at explaining the exercises/methods to train our dog for heeling and recall, and that allowed us to further understand the approach and effectiveness. If we found that certain exercises were not effective, Janet provided fantastic recommendations and worked with us until we were able to find the right method. We now have a dog who now takes walks on just a flat collar (no harness or gentle leader) and gets the freedom to play off-leash in open spaces because she comes when called! More...

I was surprised that in the two hour appointment Janet helped me with everything that my dog was doing. I didn't think we'd be able to get that much done but we did. After a week my dog was already better. I called Janet with a few follow up questions and she gave me good answers over the phone. More...

We met Janet a year ago to help with our two mixed breed dogs. We did an initial evaluation for about two hours, which was extremely helpful. We elected to do private training with her, thereafter, on a weekly basis at our home. Under Janet's guidance, my dogs went from rambunctious one year olds who pulled on the leash, jumped on everyone walking through the door, and chewed up furniture to polite and well mannered pups. With previous dogs I had done group obedience classes which, while fun, had very little effect. The difference between that and one on one training with someone who really knows what they are doing and can tailor a program to your dog's own individual personality and temperament is HUGE, and worth every penny. Recently we had an issue with the dogs fighting. I called Janet and she spent a good deal of time talking me through a solution, and even declined payment for her time. I highly recommend this company. More...
