Ben is an excellent teacher. He seems to know exactly what will suit me as a learner and is happy to also take a lead from me. He is patient, methodical and extremely knowledgable about all types of music. As an adult learner it is difficult to find time to practice but even when I feel I have nothing to offer he finds ways to fill my lesson with useful tips. When I find myself in a rut he inspires me to find different ways back to my passion. A truly great teacher. More...

Ben has been teaching me piano and guitar since I transitioned to secondary school. I am now in my first year of University. I don't remember what learning music was like before I met Ben, but I know for a fact I would not be studinying Music Psychology at Leeds had it not been for him. Despite my recent move to Leeds - Ben, being the ever so creative and knowledgeable teacher he is - created a way for us to continue our lessons online (Guitar & Piano!) & now I continue my weekly lessons as I would if I were in London anyway.

As a teacher of Music, Ben has helped me with everything from understanding Music theory, performance confidence and of course technical ability. I would not be the Musician I am today without Ben and I am eternally grateful for everything he's taught me.

I would highly recommend Ben as a teacher to any piano or guitar student as he is incredibly creative and adaptive with his teaching techniques and always comes prepared with a lesson plan.

Ben is very simply an absolutely fantastic music teacher. He has taught our eldest son flamenco and classical guitar, and our youngest asperger son piano (jazz, rock, classical) and guitar, plus grade 5 theory and supported him through aspects of his GCSE music and some musicality elements of his Sound Engineering BTEC course. He's also played in their father's band, and other bands, and taught many of our friends. As a teacher of multiple musical instruments and theory, a manager of a music school carefully selecting, training, mentoring and directing his teachers, and as someone with an extraordinary aptitude for gently supporting all manner of young people with myriad learning styles, - and as a lovely person - we cannot recommend Ben highly enough. He communicates well with parents, and adopts a holistic, patient approach to each person's learning and always goes the extra mile in terms of choosing suitable pieces and approaches, suggesting instruments, equipment and books; recording students etc. He is also community minded, hosting regular concerts - with refreshments - for students where every pupil, from 5 to 50 (and beyond) is encouraged to perform for others regardless of their level; then gives donations to charity. In short, we feel incredibly lucky to have Ben in our family's musical life. More...

Bens yearly concerts are really special. Pupils of all abilities share what they have learnt confidently and it's always a lovely evening.

I thoroughly recommend Ben if you are looking for a piano, guitar or theory teacher

Ben has been teaching my 9 year old daughter to play guitar for nearly two years. Lara really enjoys the lessons with Ben. He is patient, encouraging and enthusiastic and really brings the best out of her when she plays with him. In the spring she passed her initial guitar exam and attained a merit, we were all very happy with this result. I would recommend Ben in a heartbeat. More...

Q&As

I love the constantly changing experience of different students' learning styles and preferences, which always make you as teacher re-assess the music every time and see it in a constantly changing light. Each lesson can be like discovering the piano and guitar again for the first time and in a different way, which is part of what makes learning music such a special and rewarding experience.

I enjoy holding myself to account for extremely highly regarded standards which our students have come to expect over the years.

My approach and those of all the teachers I work alongside is one that students find inspiring, effective and relevant to their specific hopes and wishes. We value the enjoyment of the student's experience learning to play they love above all else.
