I saw Dr. Shields as a patient for both marital and individual counseling and was very pleased with what he helped me learn about myself and about my relationship. Kind and thoughtful, I always found that he had good insights into what I was experiencing and would challenge my long held beliefs if he considered them unproductive or untrue. I sought the help of Dr. Shields after another psychologist (from a different town) recommended him to me. I immediately felt at ease with him, not only as a professional therapist, but also as a person with a warm sense of humor and a supportive ease in the way he communicates. My issues were based on self doubts and lack of direction that stemmed from many years of inward turmoil. Dr. Shields guided me to understandings of myself that I couldn't or hadn't seen before. He could quickly give examples of others that shared the issues I did and he made the journey of discovery healing and many times he would illuminate the humor in everyday fears that most everyone feels at some time or another.
