I just returned to Basecamp for a workout after not coming for about a year. It was like coming home to old friends! Last  year, I relocated to the mountains, and needed to take some time to adjust to my new commuting schedule. In the process, I joined Orange Theory because they had more locations that made it more flexible to workout along my morning commute route. Although I do think Orange Theory has good workouts, I noticed that it became harder to maintain lean muscle, because their workouts are like "super cardio" and they spend very little time on the floor with weights or any weight or that matter. Plus there's that "corporate robotic" thing at Orange Theory that always bugged me a little bit. So, yesterday, it occurred to me that I was now adapted to my new schedule and that I could actually go back to Basecamp again. I remembered how when I was going to Basecamp my muscle definition and muscle mass were just better, and I was stronger. So I spontaneously tried one of their lunch workouts to see if I wanted to start going back there regularly. WOW I totally forgot how powerful and efficient their workouts are. In 45 minutes, I burned more than 650 calories, worked out my entire body and core, and my heart got an awesome workout as well. But, more importantly to me, the staff was sooooo much warmer and friendlier than most of the other studios I go to. I felt connected to them. I just love the overall laid-back energy in there, something I had totally forgotten about. They remembered me by name, which was super impressive. And, no one was following me around with a sanitary wipe to wipe up my sweat- another thing that kind of drives me bananas at other gyms. They do clean up the sweat but they do it after the workout is over, so you don't feel imposed upon. I think that's so much nicer than having the trainer constantly handing you a wipe saying "clean up after yourself." We aren't 5 years old and these workouts aren't cheap. So don't tell me what to do with my sweat- hahaha! There's more: Even though I wasn't technically a "first time" member, they comped my workout as a "welcome back" gesture. They totally didn't have to do that, but they did. I think that's awesome. Then I remembered the other little amenities that are not available at other studios: Free sweat towels, a nice locker room with private showers, and a good music playlist for the workout. It looks like I'll be returning as a happy, Basecamp Pasadena regular. More...

I am pretty sure I have tried the majority of group fitness classes in many different cities and in other countries. After practicing yoga, Pilates, barre, and spinning, I finally found my home. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy all of those classes. I have been of member of Basecamp Pasadena for almost 2.5 years. Their workouts are HIGHLY effective, and the instructors are amazing. Basecamp strives to not only strengthen the body, but also the mind. That aspect is paramount to me. I attend Basecamp 7 days per week (unless I'm on vacation or deathly ill). I can't say enough about how much it feels like my home, and an extremely collaborative process. I would like to give a HUGE shout out to Christie and Jeff. They have seen me through it all. Came here thanks to Yelp Fit club on Aug 10. The studio gave all attendees rest of the month free (which is amazing!!), so I came back for a total of 16 more classes. I am a fitness enthusiast and always looking for new studios or routines to spice up my workouts, and Basecamp Fitness exceeded all expectations in that regard. Every day is a different workout with a different focus, so you get to functionally train different muscle groups. The greatest part is that it's 35 min long (+10 more min for abs) - there's absolutely no excuse! At the end of my month, I mentally felt stronger, and was pretty happy with that. Format: Sign in on an iPad. The class is set up with generally 1 min of cardio (assault bike), 10 seconds to transition, then 1 min of functional training. Rinse and repeat. You usually are in a group of 4. Max per class around be around 32 people, for a total of 4 stations, with 8 people in each general group, 4 in each sub group. I appreciated how there were screens that demonstrated the moves constantly, so not only can you look up to adjust your moves, you can also look ahead to prepare mentally the upcoming moves. Instructors: I took classes with Brandon, Max, Matt, Katie, and Aubrey. They were all energizing, encouraging, giving everyone high fives or shouting out motivational messages. They try to come around to adjust your posture if the class isn't too large, or to make modifications. They also make it a point to demonstrate each move before the actual rotation, which I appreciate. Community: I was only there for less than 1 month, but I saw that for the regular members, there was a sense of camaraderie amongst the members and also with the instructors as well. The front desk staff were always so friendly and inviting once you enter, so you automatically feel welcome. No judgement zone- everyone there doing their thing and focusing on improving their own health and meet their goals. Facility: Extremely clean and well-stocked. The showers had good shower pressure, with shampoo, conditioner, and soap. They provide towels as well. Hours: Lots of classes to choose from, so it can work with almost any schedule. The earliest class I have taken was a 5AM, the latest at 8:15P, and regardless of time of day, you always get the same energy and enthusiasm from the instructors. Parking: free 90 min validated parking in the Playhouse garage located right downstairs. Why I didn't pursue a membership mostly came down to the price. Other Yelpers have mentioned it before. It is expensive, and it frankly isn't in my budget currently. From the email they sent me, 219.99 for unlimited classes/month, 179.99 for 8 classes/month, and 99.99 for 4 classes/month. If you have the buget and looking for a great gym to join, I would highly recommend Basecamp! More...

Let me start by saying that I'm not a gym person, my idea of exercise is walking around the rose bowl or hiking with my dogs all over LA. I did the fit yelp elite event at basecamp and was hooked. I took a bunch of classes with Brandon, Matt, Max, Aubrey and Katie and loved all the instructors and the format of the gym/classes...so much so that I have now signed up for the entire year!Pros: 1. awesome energy of the instructors and I love that no one is intimidating to newbies like me. I especially love Brandon's classes (the music rocks in his classes and he is super nice and funny!) I love the boxing classes...so much fun!2. Free 90 min parking3. Super friendly front office people, I love that everyone has a smile here!4. The format of the classes is really awesome..you get in, you work out with the group and it's fast and pretty effective. I've taken classes at 8 am on sundays (in spite of not being a morning person) and as late as 8:15 pm on weekdays and they always leave me energized. Cons: I only see one con..it is expensive. I'm an economist so joining for a year made more sense in terms of numbers/math than signing for individual classes. They do have group of classes but if you like the gym and the format which I do, makes more sense to join yearly. Overall, I love coming here...here's to getting fit thanks to Yelp! More...

This place is amazing. I felt welcome from the moment I walked in. Their staff is super helpful and the instructors were great about setting expectations before class. It's obvious that they care about building community and camaraderie here. The four stars is because I felt the classes were big and I didn't get the adjustments I thought I needed to make sure I didn't injure myself. I came to Basecamp for a Yelp event and they ended up giving us the rest of month for free (SUPER KIND), so I had to come back and take full advantage of it. A) They have so many class times, it's really great for those who have a particular schedule or work on the other side of town.B) I love that they have your bike set up for you and have a group number on the bike so you know what you'll be doing. C) Which brings me to the screens that actually SHOW YOU what you'll be doing. I think it honestly saves so much time so you know what you're doing while you're biking so you can hop right to strength.D) The instructors are all wonderful and come around and correct your form. This is so crucial because I've been to a few places where it's really easy to get injured because you're doing something wrong and don't know it. E) Parking is the literal easiest thing on the planet, they validate for the garage below. I'm definitely going to be hitting them up to get a membership, it's so easy why wouldn't you? More...

I came here as part of a free class through yelp Fit Club. I have come back again, since as they were kind enough to offer free classes until the end of the month. 30, 1 min workouts alternating between the stationary bike and floor exercises. 35 mins. There are videos on the screens telling you what to do next (very F45 like)The bikes are all set up for you with your height, so you don't have to adjust it when you get in. Then 10 mins on the floor for core. So 45 mins in total. I like the fact that the class is short, but really challenging at the same time.I have had a couple of minor injuries which has made working out a challenge. The instructors have really been totally amazing, modifying the exercises for me. I'm sure it's a pain when there's  so many that I can't do and they have to find something different for me to do. But they have been so nice about it. Everyone has been so helpful and friendly. Parking: free validating parking for 75 mins. No driving around looking for parking 2 mins before your class starts. I've been a member of Basecamp for a couple months now have have made tremendous progress after years of stagnation.  I've got abs again!  And I feel great!!Before Basecamp, it was almost impossible to get a decent workout with my busy schedule.  I used to painfully will myself out of bed early morning and shuffle to the gym for a half-assed workout.  I would set my alarm to do this each day of the week, but could only manage a day or two.  I would snooze away and rationalize why I should just catch up on sleep.  And because I wasn't exercising, I wasn't relaxed and able to sleep, and then I got nothing out of it.  No sleep.  No fitness. Then I found Basecamp by accident as I was walking by.  It was a Sunday afternoon and classes had finished for the day, but I was very impressed with the layout alone.   High ceilings, cleanliness, wall-to-wall mats, exercise bikes all around the perimeter and ample dumbbells, barbells, bosu's, medicine balls, etc.So I signed up for a free trial, and had the best workout since high school wrestling lol.  Each workout has pushed me to the limit, and I am happy to go to these limits and beyond, due to the fantastic environment and excellent instructors.  The tough workouts are easy, if that makes sense. It is incredibly easy to get up at 4:30am for a 5:00am class.  Yes, it's dark outside, but when you walk into that room, there's a surge of energy and enthusiasm that takes over you.  Everyone, from the front desk staff, to the trainers, to the people training next to you, is spirited and ready to go. The trainers are pretty much flawless.  No thing, no place, no one, is perfect, but I have yet to find any flaws with Basecamp.  All trainers are so good, it doesn't matter who you get.  A few more pluses:Very clean bathroom and showersHand towels and shower towelsEasy and secure free parkingThank you Basecamp. The staff there is better than caffeine, they are high energy positive people. The workouts are great for people who want cross training and only have 30 minutes to do it.  It is by FAR the most efficient and consistent workout experience that I have ever had.  You are in and out, and once you are in, you are working your butt off.It is one of those places that can be as hard or easy as you want it to be. In short, Basecamp Fitness alternates between using an assault bike for 60 seconds and then floor/weight exercises for another 60 seconds. What's awesome is you never repeat the same floor/weight exercises twice in the same workout session. And even if it seems like during the week the same areas on your body are being targeted, the moves are still different to keep your body guessing as to what's next.At first I was intimidated to even try this out but I'm so happy I did. Best decision of my life. Of all the gyms and studios I have been at, this place is my all time favorite. I have been coming almost every day since I joined a year and 8 months ago. I believe I have logged in 629 as of today. I love how they help you celebrate your success when you hit 100, 250, 500 and then 1000. The staff makes you feel like family. They welcome each member as they walk in and everyone knows your name. The workouts are challenging but fun. You spend 1 minute on an assault bike and one minute on the mat, working with kettle bells, barbells, medicine balls etc.. what I love about this place is there are monitors that will show you the move. Everyday is a different workout. 35 mins of workout plus 10 mins of core work. They have many classes throughout the day to accommodate everyone's schedule. The workout is the same throughout the day but on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday they offer a boxing class. Boxing is an amazing way to get out your frustration. Punching a bag after a long day at work does wonders. The trainers are supportive and make an effort to get to know you and your goals. If any injuries they would modify the exercise to accommodate. I love how you are there to become a better version of yourself. The vibe here is positive, high energy and high fives all around. You would be surprised at how many friends you will make here just working out every day. It's a wonderful place to work on yourself inside and out. The review is more between 3 and 4 stars. It would be a higher rating if certain things can be improved. But then that means potentially higher cost. ... Pick and choose I guess?I received a week free pass from basecamp fitness and decided to give it a shot since the location is 10 minutes away from where I work. After trying out the gym there are a few things I like and dislike about this place. But at the end of the day, you should be the judge. As mentioned above, I received a free week pass back in June 2018 and checked out the place 7 times that week and now a member at the place. Few things I like about the place are1. The exercise is similar to HIIT. You rotate with different exercises with 10-second interval break to transit into another exercise. 2. The staffs are nice and try to help out as much as possible. But then this also requires you to come to the facility early and/or stay late before and/or after your workout.3. You do not need to think and/or design a workout routine since Basecamp developed the workout for you.Something I do not like about the facility1. As mention above, this is a fast paced environment, so if you do not know how to perform certain exercise then it's pretty much Good Game. You will be resting for 1 minute or you can still workout with a bad form.2. There is only 1 instructor teaching the class and it's hard for the instructor to monitor all members. Also, some instructors just walk around the facility and stating what is the next exercise without stating what to look out for or an alternative form. This also applied to #1 as well, fast-paced. (But there are also instructors that pay close attention and try to help out as much as possible. So it depends on which instructor you have for the day)3. Not enough shower room. Only 2 shower spacesAnother important thing to mention, if you signed up for regular membership (4 or 8 classes per month) you have either 12 or 24 hours prior to the class start to cancel the class if anything. Otherwise, you will lose the class. If you signed up for the annual and unlimited class per month contract, you'll have 12 hours prior to the class to cancel. Otherwise, you will be charged for $10 cancellation fee. Personally, I was changed when I canceled my class 11.5 hours prior and I was not informed about this policy when I signed up for the annual contract.Overall, if you have a decent knowledge about lifting weight and don't want to spend the time to design your own routine. This will be a good place for you. Since everything is pre-designed so you just need to show up and workout. If you are not too knowledgeable, it may still be a good place for you to workout. You just need to spend more time to talk to the instructors before and/or after the classes to get your technique down. The above is my personal opinion and I don't speak for anyone else. But you should be the judge for this place. More...

I love Basecamp Fitness Burlingame. The people that work there are awesome...super helpful and very friendly. Elisa really helped clarify the different levels of membership and just makes me feel very welcome when I  go there. My favorite instructor is Euni...she pushes and encourages you throughout the workout, and has so much energy. And she herself works out at Basecamp which speaks volumes. Basecamp is a bit pricey but it's such a fun atmosphere and they really get your heart pumping in those 35 minutes. After baby #2, I am finally exercising again and on my way to getting back into shape thanks to Basecamp Fitness. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is having trouble finding the motivation to workout. Awesome and effective! More...

I would fully recommend Basecamp Fitness to everybody. The trainers are so friendly and they give a fun approach to the workouts. The personal training aspect to the gym is a fantastic touch and the trainers are always there to help whether it be a helping with your form or there to help you get the extra push on your set. 10/10 ⭐️ Delighted to be part of the Basecamp Fitness family More...

I took a first free class back in August at Basecamp Fitness, and I was absolutely amazed :D !! It was a huge morning class. But nevertheless, our instructor, Stephanie Blase, was phenomenal and she really knew how to lead everyone in their respective exercises! Embarassingly, since I haven't worked out in years, I was SO out of shape!! But when I checked in at the front desk, Christie and her staff members were super nice and friendly, and assured me that I would be ok! Ever since, I have taken 2 classes with Nick Andrade, who is also an awesome instructor :D !! And today, I took another class with Stephanie again :) !! Today was my first threshold class, and it was so helpful to know where I currently am at in terms of my ability to carry out certain exercises! For my first class, I loved how we alternated between cycling on the bike, and doing barbell and dumbbell exercises, push-ups, and stretching exercises! It felt like a boot camp, but a nice and encouraging one with a lot of highly qualified staff to assist everyone :) ! I have started gaining weight in my belly, and I knew I had to do something about it! So I decided to try this place out! And it certainly did not disappoint! I signed up for their Limited Hike membership (which is 4 classes for about $100). I know that I really need to get in shape again! And the only way to do this is to come to these classes, and be pushed to do these exercises! Otherwise, quite frankly, I probably would not do them on my own! More...

I love basecamp! Everyone here has great energy, the staff are friendly, and the music is great. There is a nice parking lot about two blocks away, so I never have to worry about trying to find parking. I have both a basecamp and orange theory membership. I like that basecamp helps me increase my strength but orange theory helps me more with cardio and running... which is something I've always been really bad about.I like how you can customize your workouts. They have two treadmills if you don't like doing the bike. You just have to tell them ahead of time.I would agree that the instructor does matter. I like some more than others.Basecamp gets a 5/5 because they also offer boxing, which is pretty cool. And a great added variety. Just make sure to come a little earlier to get all set up at your station.Another plus is they offer workout towels. More...

Trained at Basecamp for a few months and loved all the classes and Trainers/Staff. Had to unfortunately stop coming due to caring for my father's illness and spend quality time with him. My autopay had re-activated a few months later and I called to see what can be done about a refund or credit. No refund available (due to policy in which I understand)  but Christie, the manager, was able to help me figure out the best solution so I wouldn't lose out on those missed classes. She was very helpful and kind and made things right due to my current situation. Appreciative of how their staff goes above and beyond for their clients.  I look forward to coming back to train when the time is right! Thank you! More...
