I often forget about yelp reviews unless I had an amazing experience or a horrible experience. Avati has an amazing massage therapist. Robyn's healing hands are just that, healing. Although I am sure she can give you a relaxing massage, I needed more. As a hairstylist I have serious back issues along with arm and leg. I have had numbness in my thigh for two years now, along with a severe burning over my knee. Did the PT thing with no improvement. I knew I needed to find a massage therapist who is an expert at a therapeutic massage to correct the nerve impingement. I saw Robyn twice so far and received immediate results. We moved to San Diego from Orange County two years ago and I had the same stylist for over 10 years so I commuted every 6 months to OC for my hair. I finally decided to try this salon that is less than two miles from our home and I am so happy I did! Nicole was very accommodating and responsive, and even though I had no idea what I wanted to do with my hair she asked me some questions and we settled on something I'd like. It came out wonderful! She really took her time and I could tell she cared. I don't normally chat during haircuts/color but we had a lot to talk about and she was so personable. Phone appointments are easy to make; I called in, left a message, and Samantha (an independent stylist at Avati) called me back to make my appointment. She made sure to ask me what I wanted so she could fit me into her schedule, and I had an appointment within the week! A simple haircut costs $40+. It includes a wash, cut, and blowdry. I had long hair and wanted a change to a short haircut, right above the shoulders. I brought in some example photos, which Samantha analyzed. She asked some important preemptive questions about layering and length. Since I dance sometimes, I wanted it long enough to tie into a ponytail - which she took into account - and reassured me that my hair would remain long enough for a ponytailShe also picked up on my nervousness, since this was my first big change, and was very considerate of that: She asked if I wanted some side bangs like the photo, but recommended that I should just come back next time if I wanted them, since I was so nervous already. She showed me what they would look like, and was helpful throughout the process whenever I had questions. The review left by Maggie McDaniel was greatly slanted in her favor. She has all her belongings in her car and seems to be homeless and she hangs out in the parking lot with known transients and they leave trash in the parking lot and eat up parking spaces for long periods of time that could be used by customers of the businesses in the center. When we asked them nicely, numerous times to clean up their mess and leave the parking lot the others left and she did not, and she was the one that used inappropriate behavior, called my wife names and used foul language. The post she left here was her retaliation for being asked to clean up her mess and leave the parking lot. If she purchased coffee from the coffee stand and wants to sit in the parking lot, drink her coffee and read her paper, that is fine. If she sits in the parking lot for 6-8 hours and leaves trash behind, that is not fine. Also, we are authorized by the owner of the property to help regulate the activities in the parking lot in the best interest of all the businesses within the center.The review left by Jordan Glickman that references the primary e-mail responder from the web site is rude, he is a salesman and made nasty comments about our website and tried to sell us services to redo the website. I had a kimono engagement photo session planned, and I had no idea who to go to for my hair or to dress me in my kimono. My friend got married a few years back, and she had gotten her hair, makeup and kimono dressage done by Kiyoko. I emailed Kiyoko and she promptly gave me a call back. We set up my appointment. Kiyoko did an amazing job on my kimono updo. She styled my hair to flatter my facial features, and the updo was looked lovely. She is a sweet woman who takes prides in her work. I have been seeing Bre at Avati for a couple of years now and absolutely love my hair every time I walk out the door. This last time I got the Keratin treatment (aka the Brazilian Blowout) and I LOVE it. My hair is very thick and wavy and now all I have to do is blow dry and it is nice and straight. I normally have to straighten it for a while after blow drying so you can imagine how much time I have cut out of getting ready. I am fairly new to the salon way of life, but I must say, salon Avati is fantastic. I was thinking about doing a purple dip on my hair and after browsing several other salons made an appointment for a consult. I live just a few blocks up the street and was so pleased to discover how nice this salon is!  Over the past few years I've been going with my fiance to cost cutters and other similar salons, but have never took the time to find a hair dresser that I really loved. I moved to San Diego 10 years ago and Samantha gave me my first hair cut. I followed her from UTC, to Mission Valley, to Regents Rd and at some point I wandered away. When looking for a new salon to go to that was near where I usually travel and won't break the bank I did a Yelp search and came up with Avati Salon. This is where I unknowingly found Samantha again. My haircut came out great. She listened to my likes and dislikes and gave me a great cut. The salon is nice, clean and unpretentious. No skylight in the center of the salon with bamboo growing, no water falls with exotic plants and no endless glass shelves filled with product that they are pushing. I was thrilled to be referred to  Denise after losing my hair stylist of 20 years.  Denise does a fantastic job with my color (blonde high-lights) and cut/style at a very reasonable price.  She assures 100% satisfaction and is very detail oriented.  As owner of Avati, Denise has a watchful eye to all of the various work areas: nails, hair, facials, massages insuring each area is as clean as hers is. The salon has a warm, inviting atmosphere with ample parking, a coffee kiosk, and a restaurant in the center. And, they accept credit cards as well.   With its convenient location to Costco, it is  easy to have one's hair done-and follow-up with shopping.   All of the stylists are professional and welcoming! Thank you Yelp for FINALLY finding me a hair salon that I love! Coleen is awesome. I've been wanting the Emma Watson/Anne Hathaway pixie cut for months and every time I went to a salon, they made it to long and not hip/funky enough. Coleen was so excited to do the cut, she did it perfectly and worked diligently to get it right (I have a lot of hair for short hair). She did an amazing job and I love it!! She's also a great person. So fun to talk to and its not an awkward silence while she's working. The salon is small, but they're expanding. It is very nice though and you can tell the staff all enjoy working together. She used some great products on my hair and my usually dry hair is so silky the day after. I love this place. I love Avati salon.  I have been seeing Colleen for a few years now.  She has taken me from very broken short hair, to much more depth in color and length.  My hair is much healthier.  She is the best stylist and always listens.  She constantly is taking courses to better her skills.  I have gotten so many compliments on my hair since I have been going to her.  I recently moved to orange county and I still drive back to see her!  The salon is very nice.  Plenty of places to park.
