They didn't pester and you were left to wander round as you wished. Afternoon tea was lovely sat by an open fire. Woke up to deer on the front lawn. Very quiet & relaxing. Would definitely return. My lovely daughter-in-law-to-be, who is American, booked this as a treat for me---- and what a treat it is !!! Super warm welcome And, if you're worried about cold draughty castles, don't be- super warm accommodation too ! !). Spacious, luxury room with nice little touches, including a delicious sherry. A wee kitchen down the corridor for guests use, was thoughtful. Breakfast that had absolutely everything you could think of,and more besides. Thoroughly enjoyable. More...

What a great place. A real Victorian country house with plenty of character in all the rooms. A warm welcome is extended to all by all the staff. The open fireplaces creating a warm cosy atmosphere in the lounge and restaurant areas, adding to the relaxed feeling. The breakfasts are great with a great range of good quality items. All the food was excellent, with the evening meals being worthy of top restaurants. Very different from the formal stiffness of other country house hotels, in the best way possible. If you want friendly and different this is the place for you. I loved it. More...

Stayed two nights and loved every bit of it. Will be back for another visit. The whole ambience is just as described on the website and a real joy. Roaring fires, downstairs and a well stocked honesty bar. Staff (and Maisie) are an absolute delight and I have no hesitation in compiling this review. However gremlins can creep in but only one and that was I specifically requested carnation flowers on arrival. Although flowers placed in the room they were not carnations. I recognise that we do not live in a perfect world, things can and do go awry but this place is as near perfect as you can get considering it is a smaller informal hotel and that in itself is part of its charm. Overall cannot commend highly enough and chef worth his weight in gold for mouthwatering cuisine. More...

Overall we loved staying at Augill Castle. Fabulous food, excellent location, great ambience. In fact, the only minor niggle in our accommodation (The Gatehouse), was there was no sink available downstairs, so whenever we wanted to fill the kettle, or wash the pots, we had to go upstairs to the bathroom. I know not all the rooms are the same, so perhaps only applies to the room we were in, and maybe I am being a bit lazy too. More...

Had a Westmoreland Afternoon Tea at Augill Castle and was thoroughly impressed by every aspect of the experience.
