I went to home depot last month to get the pro referral for my new deck project. Home depot representative referred me to three different Pros from which I chose The following contractor

Atrium Contractors LLC.
Jesus Silva
1340 David Ln
Frederick, MD 21703
(240) 422-5117

I hired Atrium Contractors (Jesus Silva the owner MHIC#:134757) to install my Deck and Patio for total $8700 for labor starting on 4/06/2020. I bought all the Trex Elevations Metal framing and trex transcend decking from twperry, thedeckstore.com etc for about $10800.66. The deck labor was set to $5000 and $3700 for patio. Jesus Silva from Atrium contractors initially charged $4350 to start the work on deck first . I provided all the materials delivered at my home for him to start the work. They started the project and turned out to be very sloppy in each and every single step of the process including incorrect measurements. When he was about to install mid-span blockings, he incorrectly install them, i found out about this when i facetimed my architect. My architect said the deck would fail unless it is correctly installed. He never accurately measured the decking properly and installed the Trex elevations metal framing joists, beams, rail post blockings, rainescape system and midspan blocking incorrectly.

On Friday May 1st 2020, when he came, he started the installation of deck boards and railings. He installed the deck boards incorrectly, the spacing between the deck boards were uneven as you can see in the attached pictures. when he was about to install the Trex Select 6ft railing on the front middle section, he discovered that the top and bottom rail is short and the length is 69 inches instead it should have been 67-5/8” or less, it was short due to the incorrect installation of the rail post location, but he tried to blame it on the Trex Select 6ft railing material. I showed him the installation document and showed him the dimensions that is 67-5/8” which he must know if he is a PRO licensed contractor. After that I measured all of the railing posts and discovered that all of the railingposts were not evenly distributed and they were all crooked and incorrectly installed at the incorrect locations. In fact, he never measured it properly. He never accepted his mistake and when I asked him to compensate me for the damages and buy all the materials that is useless due to his blunder and fix his mistakes by removing the decking boards, rainescape system and correct all of the rail post blockings, he shouted at me and took all of his equipment and ran away with unfinished job and he left all the trash.

On Sunday May 3rd 2020, I scheduled an appointment with reputable Trex Elevations Professional Contractor to inspect the whole deck installation. We further discovered that the Deck framing is also not installed in a perfect square, the deck is tilted about 4-1/2 inches to the right due to which everything looks crooked including railing. This is the major setback. When we measured the deck from each corner we discovered that the deck is 4-1/2 inches tilted to the right, I have included the pictures of all the issues. We also discovered that the deck boards are inconsistently installed, some of the deck boards have more spacing and some have less spacing between them, I will have to get them all removed and properly reinstalled. After having the inspection, in order to properly reinstall the deck correctly, Following are the items that needs to be accomplished by the professional Trex elevations contractor

1. Labor Charges to remove all the deck boards and properly reinstall them.

2. Labor charges to remove the screws on the beam and move the beam to the left 4 inches to make a perfect square.

3. Due to this all of the decking board I bought could be useless, therefore I might need to buy all of the new decking boards. We hope we are able to use most of the boards.

4. Labor charges for all of the railing post blockings needs to be properly removed and re-installed at the proper locations, for which additional Trex Elevations metal might need to be bought.

5. Need to buy all the Trex Railing materials again 2 8ft and 3 6ft railing kits since Atrium contractor already cut them incorrectly.

8. Labor charges to finish the deck corners.

9. Labor charges to remove all 3 Fascia boards.

10. Buy 3 new Fascia boards again.

11. Labor charges to reinstall the new Fascia boards.

12. Will have to buy some Trex rainescape system as well depending on how much will be useless.

The total labor and material cost to uninstall and reinstall the decking will be $10000+ more in addition to $4350 what I had already paid him initially which he never refunded. I will have the exact estimate next week from the professional contractor who will finish the mess Atrium contractors created.

Thanks
