Have been working out here for almost 7 years, predominantly Crossfit and CrossFit Endurance classes.   Good mix of classes for early birds or after work and a few lunch time offerings to most most people's schedule.   The main plus is the amount of space and top notch equipment they offer.  Plenty of Olympic plates and platforms for lifts, med balls, wall balls, sand-bags.   The training offered provides lots of experienced guidance under certified trainers.  If you think your gym workout program is working, come try a class here to confirm it. I recently moved to Cary from NH for a new position with my employer. I used to work out multiple times a week back up north but when I moved, I took time off from my work out routine. Finally after several weeks and 3 burpees later, I found Athletic Lab. They are very professional and motivational. As a result of them continuing to work with me, I was able to place 35th overall in a Battle Frog Race. The entire staff is very professional and wants to work with everyone in helping them achieve their goal. I especially enjoyed the postcard I recently received congratulating me on my new back squat max. I always hear them say they are putting it the "computer" but never knew it existed. :) More...

So almost two years ago I fell in love with Crossfit. There were times I knew it was a one-sided relationship. But I kept pushing through and we worked on our love affair. I even committed to meeting his parents, the competition WODs. Oh we were thriving. Then I got offered a new job out of town. I was for sure that our relationship could weather that storm. Crossfit is everywhere, Omnipotent even. But this move drove a wedge between us. I couldn't believe it, we were having trouble connecting in our barely 14 mo old relationship. I struggled to find a place where Crossfit and I could be together. I tried many places and even was the strange guy in the room all to try and salvage my relationship. Then one day I gave up. I broke up with Crossfit. I was in a funk. I couldn't focus. I tried seeing other gyms but nothing made feel the way Crossfit did strong, determined and holistic. Then the worse thing happened my old gym blocked me on FaceBook. Cut me off (removed from the gym page). I cried for a few days but then I woke up determined. The unstoppable in my quest to find Crossfit and make it a part of my life again. I dropped into a few places looked at a few profiles online and I picked a class at Athletic Lab Cary Crossfit. I was able to meet Crossfit again, on different terms this time. There was no delusion of fake relationship. I found my membership spot again. The class structure at AL is what I loved about my old gym, the workouts were strenuous and tough but modifiable if I wanted them to be. Here I enjoy pushing myself and I suspect the coaches of pushing me too when they loaded my bar at full weight. Thanks G. It's just what I needed and wanted. This is the spot. I'm glad I came here and I like the people. Don't make judgements on elitism or bro hood cause that e it's everywhere at every Crossfit, even if you think it doesn't; it does. The point is Crossfit and I are seeing each other again this time in a very healthy mutual relationship. More...

Athletic lab is a top notch athletic facility. All of the coaches have degrees in fields relevant to exercise and have other certifications. Careful attention is paid to form and staying injury free. The classes (Endurance, Senza, Crossfit) will challenge you to push yourself but without the carelessness that you might find at other facilities. The equipment is great. Mike is constantly investing in new equipment from the bikes to the rowers to the type of weights that go on the racks. They also offer training to scholastic (middle, high school) kids to help them with training during season and off season. Several scholastic kids have gone on to scholarships. Mike has a Ted talk and speaks all around the world as well as coaching/consulting. I can't say enough positive about this facility and the staff (Stephanie is tiny but will kick your butt!). She can out pullup and pushup most everyone and so can many of the other coaches. Anyway, Go! It is great! More...

I don't have many CrossFit reference points with which to judge against, but I can say that I couldn't be happier at the Athletic Lab ("AL").  I came in (Sept 2013) with the limited goal of improving my overall health and physique beyond the significant amount of long distance running I was doing.  I now have many more goals I hope to achieve.ADDICTIVE:  CrossFit itself is an addictive training regimen / sport.  The varied workouts + the chance to compete against yourself and others gives me a reason to work harder.  Honestly, this aspect is the best thing you can get from a work-out: the desire to do more and do it better.  You can get this at most CrossFit gyms, so why is AL better?GREAT TRAINING:  The AL staff is incredibly knowledgeable and well trained.  Most importantly, you can tell that the "programming" of classes has had more thought put into it than any other gym I have been to.  The staff is always watching your technique and tries to find ways to help you improve (and watches when your cheating yourself ;).  Shout out to John and Stephanie as great examples of this!  The trainers here train Olympic and professional athletes, of which I am neither. They also have a Mobility and Endurance class.  I've not been to either, but they may be a good fit for you.EQUIPMENT:  State of the art equipment and plenty of space to workout.  AL's latest equipment refresh means even more equipment.  It does get busy at times though I don't think that they need more CrossFit class times.PEOPLE:  Again, I haven't met a trainer I don't like.  In addition, your fellow CrossFitters are friendly, helpful and not intimidating physically or personally, although they are all in great shape!  I have found that the "work ethic" of other members at this gym is higher than at others which I find to be a helpful challenge.  It is a very fun, energetic and community environment.  There are also some outside-the-gym activities such as participation in local races and competitions.BLOGGING:  AL's trainers regularly blog about technique and physical fitness.  I find these to be a very helpful free addition to the benefits I get from membership.  One of the owner's, Mike Young, has a TEDx talk you can look up.If you're interested, call and sign up for the foundations course.  Especially if you have little weight or physical training to recently.  Expect to be sore, but that's what you came for! I've been training at the Athletic Lab for 6 months now and I cannot believe how much it's impacted my life.  I had been working out at O2 fitness where I liked the group classes, but after a year there, the classes no longer challenged me.  My fiance had joined the Athletic Lab so I tried it out with him - definitely a challenging workout!  I was winded on the warm-up.  I was also impressed with the attentiveness and knowledge of the trainers - they are still always giving me pointers and correcting my form.  I'm probably in the best shape of my life.  Outside of the obvious physical benefits, I love the social atmosphere.  Everyone is really nice and encouraging.  We love the occasional potlucks and just seeing the CrossFit crew every workout.  Definitely different from large gyms where everyone puts in their earbuds and tries not to make eye contact.  Plus, it's added a new dimension to my relationship.  My fiance and I talk about the workouts, encourage each other, and compliment each other's accomplishments. The structure of the Performance workouts includes a 10-15min warm-up, strength training portion, 10-20 minute WOD (with an Advanced option), and stretching to cool down.  The Athletic Lab also offers Endurance classes, Olympic Weight Training, and Scholastic training.  The classes are at convenient times and they have a nice online sign-up system.Basically, I can't say enough good things about this place.  I've tried out another CrossFit facility and heard about others through word of mouth.  As far as I can tell, the Athletic Lab is really unique in it's offerings and quality.  It's awesome. The environment at Athletic Lab is nurturing and they really try to coach you versus pushing you to beat a number at the expense of proper form and your health. Classes are held several times a day - I like the 6AM they have on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. But they also have a mid-morning class 11AM on T, TH and a Noon Class on M, W, F, and of course many evening classes - finding a compatible time won't be a valid excuse for you not to get a workout in. Bonus: Sunday's are open hours for folks to come in and just work on whatever they want. Things I enjoy about Athletic Lab: + the staff - all real pros (nurturing, quick to coach/cheerlead when needed, friendly) + the facilities - just look at the pictures, the best but also always improving + they offer strength and endurance sessions - the endurance session is particularly fun and a nice mix up if you want to lay off the olympic weight stuff or if you want to work on your running times + the people that work out here - everyone's very friendly and it does feel like a community of sorts + Yes, there are professionals, Olympians (or hopefuls), and ex-collegiate DIV I athletes that work out here - but it NOT elitist. If anything, it's the opposite of thatThey helped me lose lots of inches, pounds, and body fat % but they also helped me gain confidence and true physical fitness. One more thing - they invest heavily in the facilities and equipment. Going in right now is brand new AstroTurf, or artificial turf of some sort, and 5 additional squat racks/pull-up stations. SO MANY GOOD THINGS TO SAY. Where to start... I bought the Groupon deal before I even moved to the area. I knew I wanted to at least try a box (I've bought deals before but never actually bought a membership. ).I called to schedule my first class ASAP. They were very attentive on the phone and set me right up. I logged in online and all the classes were full! I was really aggravated and emailed them to ask if they had any suggestions/alluded to the fact that I may just want a refund. One of the co-owners emailed back promptly and said he doubled the class sizes and trainers to accommodate. (I was REALLY impressed. The man knows what he's doing on the business side of things/keeping customers- even just potential ones - happy.) Once I got there, I was super impressed with the equipment/space. VERY spacious (and clean!). Looks just like my dream gym- plenty of squat racks. :) There were no dumb Foundation courses I was forced to run through which I was happy about because I know a little bit and those classes are usually too easy. All the trainers have been AMAZING. They always learn your name (as does the girl at the front desk - love her as well!), cheer for you, and assist you with your form (which is the most important part for me- injuries are a big NO in my book). No one here is elitist and they will modify the workouts so anyone can do them, but you're still pushing yourself. I have never really considered paying CrossFit membership prices (just graduated college - student loans, etc) but for once I'm actually thinking about how I'll make it work. For once, it finally seems worth it! I HIGHLY recommended this place. Go here. You will be so happy you did.PS They also do some sort of kids training.
