I wanted a will and used Assist Law. They sent one of their team out for a home visit. He was very knowledgeable and really put me at ease about the whole process. Got the will back on time as promised. Was a great reliable service. I would definitely recommend any one who wants a straightforward will writing service to use this company. More...

My local Estate Planner (John) arranged to see us at our home address in Colchester in an evening which was very convenient for me, as I work Monday to Friday. Throughout the appointment he was professional, polite and very informative about the whole process of will making and gave invaluable advice about many things including exposure to inheritance tax and care home fees.
Despite my initial reservations, I have nothing but praise for Assist Law, who have been superb throughout the whole process, and we received our completed wills in a very timely manner.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Assist Law, and particularly John, who has been invaluable to us.

Q&As

What I enjoy most about my work is that peace of mind it brings to my clients that they have done everything correctly for when the time comes. I've dealt with many cases in which the circumstances always vary but most importantly I have the opportunity to provide the advice they need to resolve their concern.

As I work for Assist Law I didn't start this business however I decided to join the team at their head office as it's great to work with the right people and given all the opportunities that come with running my own business. I am tasked with extending our services to new customers which is why I've decided to join Bark.

We believe our customers should know from the outset what services would best address their needs and they should have the opportunity to make a fully informed decision including the available alternatives. We are up front about our costs and we do not charge an hourly rate rather we charge per service so our clients aren't in any doubt they have made the right choice.

Services

Will Telephone Consultation - Taking care of those that take care of you. We can provide a consultation with legal advice on the liabilities that arise on death and ways to reduce these, for a fixed fee of £90 per person. One calendar month after the appointment you shall receive your Will in the post for you to sign and witness, once that's complete your Will is ready for use. Within this service we advise you appoint guardians for children under the age of 18; In the event where guardianship takes effect we do not charge for the trusts that would need to be set up to secure the children's inheritance until the age of vesting of your choice - between 18 - 25 years old. We also advise you to appoint a minimum of two or a maximum of four Executors for your Will, these are the people that administer your estate when you pass away.

Document Assist – Unlimited updates to your Will, secure storage in a condition proof facility and delivery of your Will to your Executors upon death for a fixed cost of £360 per person or 4x quarterly payments of £90 interest free.

Key Features:

• Will Storage in our state of the art secure document storage facility, which is protected against fire, theft and damage.
• Free Will retrieval which includes a copy Will to keep at home and Will retrieval cards for your Executors to keep for future reference
• A copy of your Will to retain at home for your own records and ease of reference.
• Our security procedures mean that during your lifetime, only you will be able to access your Will.
• When the time comes, your Will can be quickly retrieved and delivered directly and securely to the people you have expressly chosen, ensuring it is always in safe hands.
• Future updates of your Will for the remainder of your lifetime by email, letter or telephone / Unlimited updates, so changes to your Will can be made as and when your life circumstances change.
• All the benefits of this service are guaranteed by The Professional Association of Legal Services (PALS)

Will Trusts – Providing for your financial dependents, along-side Document Assist you can include unlimited trusts as and when you need them. Trusts are £275 per will or 4x quarterly payments of £68.75 interest free. Should a Severance of Tenancy be required to set up a Property Trust there is a fee of £120, this applies where we need to convert Joint Tenants of a property to Tenants in Common.

The most common cases where we write a Trust into Wills are:
• Providing for elderly relatives living with you; ensuring they can continue to live in your property when you pass away.
• Providing for a new spouse when you have children from a previous relationship; ensuring your new spouse can continue to live in the property and your children inherit accordingly. In some cases where a trust has not been implemented children from a previous relationship can be affected by sideways disinheritance where all assets pass to the new spouse and no provision is made for the children.
• Providing for loved ones with a disability, physical or mental; ensuring they could inherit a large sum of money without affecting their benefits or financial stability.
• Providing for loved ones who could not manage an inheritance; ensuring they would not have their inheritance swallowed up in debts due to financial irresponsibility or possibly addiction.
• Providing security of inheritance to specific beneficiaries rather than people who may interfere were they to inherit such as divorcees.

Lasting Power of Attorney – Appoint an Attorney to manage your financial affairs on your behalf or to make decisions about your healthcare in the event of incapacity. LPA's are £395 each, when you purchase a Property & Financial LPA and a Health & Welfare LPA together you can enjoy a discount of £195 for a total cost of £595 for both. You can spread the cost interest free with 4x quarterly payments of £148.75 for both LPA's or 4x quarterly payments of £98.75 for one LPA. Each LPA must be registered with the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) which involves a registration fee of £82 per LPA payable to the OPG.

Executor Assist – Support from our Bereavement Specialist at the time when its most needed. Guidance through the Estate Administration process from start to finish at a fraction of the cost of a professional Executor which is typically 3-5% of your Estate Value. This service enables your Executors to administer your estate and ensure they are performing as effectively as a professional. When you make your Will with us you can enjoy a £360 discount on this service for a fixed cost of £840 per person or 4x quarterly payments of £210 interest free. Once put in place your Estate will not be subject to administration fees meaning your beneficiaries inherit all of your estate after its debts and liabilities are paid.

Assist Law Platinum Service - Our all inclusive service includes 1 Executor Assist, 1 Document Assist, 2x LPA's and 1 Will Trust. To make these solutions more accessible we have given the option to make a deposit of £250 and monthly payments of £24.65 for a term of 72 months per person. Alternatively you can pay a one off fee of £2,025 or 4 quarterly payments of £506.25 over 1 year interest free.
