Ann Becnel's classes are great. I'm on my second set of lessons as my dog has gotten a little older. I've had dogs for many years and found other training techniques ineffective and, well, just not fun until I attended Ann Becnel's class. I joined Ann Becnel's class to train our German Shepherd, Sasha, an extremely high energy, easily distracted and powerful dog. When Sasha started, she was difficult to control and easily distracted. But within a few weeks of lessons, Ann's calm and patient demeanor along with obvious years of experience and skill training all breeds, made Sasha's unique problems manageable, and we have fun too. I was concerned that the group classes would focus on the smaller dogs, but Ann took the time to work with each dog's individual needs. And Ann's good enough that she can spot and peg a dog's good and bad habits right from the start. She supplements her classes with instructional videos that I would never have been able to find in the haystack of online lessons out there. We may have had to give up on Sasha if it weren't for Ann. The classes are affordable, and Ann is always responsive before and after classes to give extra help. Thanks, Ann! You're the best. - Greg DiLeo, Attorney at Law More...

I've known Ann for a few years and know her to be a very caring and patient person. What I had no previous experience with (other than all of her positive reviews) is what an incredible "dog whisperer" she is! I have a new (sadly, abused) rescue puppy/dog who is scared of everything. We signed up for Ann's training classes but I asked her to come here to my house for a "prep" lesson. What Ann (she really just trained me with techniques to do the training myself) was able to accomplish with my new boy Scout in just a couple of hours was nearly unbelievable! Ann is SO gentle and knowledgeable. Our lives changed overnight and I look forward to the many additional things that we'll be able to accomplish with her weel-planned training classes. I LOVE that she doesn't actually "train" the dogs herself but equips us dog parents to train them ourselves. Couldn't recommend Ann Becnel Companion Dog Training more!! 5 Stars! More...

Ann's classes are fabulous! We did one in-home session with both of our dogs (our senior dog as well as our new puppy) and then have been doing the group classes with our puppy. Ann only uses positive reinforcement training (primarily using a clicker), which is extremely effective and not cruel or negative in any way to your dog. She truly does show you that you don't need to use "dominance" training or any punitive means like electric collars or spraying with water. Her dogs that she trains are incredibly well behaved. I've seen so much growth in our puppy in the few months that we've been working with her, and I truly do believe any problem you are having with your dog can be improved through her positive reinforcement training. And even with the group classes, she's willing to answer individual questions about problems or issues you may be having with your dog. Could not recommend more! More...

Ann is a fantastic teacher and trainer and we would, hands down, recommend her to anyone. Not only do her classes help with socialization, but they lay groundwork for good habits that your puppy/dog will carry through its life. Thanks, Ann! More...

Ann's classes are fantastic! We have attended puppy kindergarten as well as the Canine Good Citizen classes. We are firm believers in Ann's positive reinforcement training. Ann does a great job of adjusting the lessons to what your puppy can handle and she is a wonderful resource for questions. She also provides detailed lesson plans, so you can practice at home with your dog. It's a great way to mentally stimulate your pup and also teach them to listen while around other distractions. We are excited to continue our training with Ann! Highly, highly recommend. More...

Roger and I took Ann's first 10 basics lessons and then I added another 10 lessons when he was a puppy. Since then, twice "come" has potentially saved his life and me losing him when someone left my gate open. But it wasn't until this past weekend that the ultimate test was created. He was unleashed in an uncontrolled environment at the beach with a LOT of his favorite distractions; small children, other dogs and birds. He never strayed from my side and command to come. He far surpassed any expectation that I ever could have had. So proud of him. He's now three years old and a very well behaved dog. I highly recommend Ann Becnel. She is very patient and consistent and her rates are very reasonable. . More...

Ann is a miracle worker! We have two rescue dogs, each with their own unique training needs. One is an adult hound dog who had essentially never lived inside before, didn't know how to function in a house, and is stubborn beyond belief. The other is a mystery breed puppy who had some basic training before coming to us, but also had some early trauma and is very, very reactive to everything outside of our house (dogs, birds, bugs, people, you name it). Ann's positive approach and ability to tailor lessons on the fly to each dog's specific needs have made a world of difference in our lives. The group lessons help the dogs get comfortable around other people and dogs, and as owners you learn so much about your dog from seeing them react to others and also hearing other people's experiences and tips. We learned so much from our round of classes with dog #1 that we almost didn't feel the need to sign up for another round with dog #2 (you really learn to integrate training into your every day life) - but we decided to sign up again anyway and are so happy we did because we continue to learn something new every time.  I can't say enough good things about Ann and her training. She is just a truly special person who loves dogs and really knows what she's doing, and we're so grateful we found her. More...

Look no further for a dog trainer. Ann is an absolute expert on the subject. Her classes are informative and extremely affective. I’ve taken the group classes, as well as the private classes, as I’m training my Golden Retriever to be a service dog. She has really whipped my Rosie into shape. She’s for sure the REAL DOG WHISPERER. Forget about that Cesar Milan! Ann is the real deal. She’s even made my stubborn 11 year old Scottish Terrier follow the rules. I wish I would have known about Ann 11 years ago when the Scottie was a puppy. She’s that good. The best thing about Ann’s method is that she tailors her method to fit what is going to work for your dog specifically. I can’t recommend enough. More...

Ann is the real deal. She is prepared and knowledgable. She also gives due credit to other well-known trainers. She has a documented plan for every session (i. e., with links to instructions, examples, and/or videos) and can adjust on the fly for the particular dog/human pairing. After losing my best gentleman friend in June (a fabulous 14 yo yellow lab), I adopted a female black lab pointer mix of unknown age and history in October. Ann's skill and knowledge with the assistance of her trusty buddie Moonpie have helped us both overcome social challenges and thrive in this new era. I am a more confident handler of a dog with fear-based dog issues, and my gal has much more confidence in me. It has now become a fun journey, rather than a scary or depressing one. We've got more work to do, and I'm so excited that I chose to have Ann's guidance. More...

Ann is a fantastic trainer of trainers. We went to Ann in order to get our stubborn pitbull/bull dog mix, Petunia, to be a little more obedient in light of the fact that we will soon be having our first baby. Petunia is over five years old, and as Ann has shown, you can teach an old dog new tricks. She is more obedient to us in general, she lunges at other dogs or cats -- formerly one of her most well known traits -- a lot less frequently, and she is starting to be the courteous and mindful little pup that we never thought was possible. Best dog trainer ever!Ann Becnel uses imaginative and fun activities to train and socialize your dog. And she does it all with positive reinforcement. Dogs play "watch me" and "take it - leave it" to learn to pay attention on and off leash as well as learning how not to eat potentially dangerous foods from strangers or the streets. She uses all types of objects near the dogs, such as umbrellas and kids on bikes, to help prevent pets from becoming reactionary. She teaches agility and recall games that have life-long benefits. For example, my 11 year old Golden has difficulty walking down stairs, but because of her agility training, she knows how to go slowly and precisely down the steps. A favorite game Ann teaches is how to keep your dog's attention by lining the walk with yummy treats and squeaky toys. Dogs love it and it's fun to watch because they win either way. Ann has trained three of my dogs and she'll train the next three as well. Best trainer ever! More...

She is very positive and upbeat and always tries to cater each week to any problems the students there are having. I really like that you buy a package of lessons and come and go and do not have to stick to a rigid six week schedule. There are some weeks I go more than once in a week and other weeks I don't go at all. I also really like that classes are offered in various parts of the city, for example right now she teaches Monday nights at Jefferson feed on Jefferson Highway, Thursday at the JCC in Metairie, Saturday and Sunday at City Park and a pet therapy club on Saturdays as well. What a difference these classes have made for my little pup, Finn! These classes are focused on positive reinforcement to build the bond between you and your dog. My dog was rescued when he was only a few months, and lived to go to the dog park. As he got older his anxieties became more apparent. He would stop in his tracks to stare at the fan, and refuse to come in the bedroom. Then he slowly became more anxious around other dogs. It was to the point where we would walk in to the park and have to leave right away. As soon as another dog approached to sniff him his hair would stand on end and he would growl or snap (never bite). He had clearly become uncomfortable now around new dogs. We are on our sixth class now, and Finn is becoming more confident every week. Now when approached by other dogs he doesn't show any signs of anxiety. When walking by other dogs in our neighborhood he watches me and we continue along with our walk. He also jumps in the car now without being afraid, and has moved passed staring at the ceiling fan. By having him focus his attention on me, and rewarding him for good behavior, I am building even more of a bond with him. More...
