What makes a great website?
A great website loads quickly, is easy to navigate and makes next steps clear and intuitive. It informs, entertains, provokes action and rewards repeat visits. And of course, it works well whatever the device you're using to view it.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
What does your business/product/ service do?
What problem do you solve for your customers?
Who are your key competitors?
Why should people buy from you?
What business objectives are you hoping to achieve? And why now?
What do you need from us specifically?
What material exists to support your proposition?
If you have existing marketing assets, what's working for you and what isn't?
Do you have any research about your ideal client or your product or service that you feel able to share with us?
What other examples have you seen that you admire or have qualities that you wish to include in the project?
Are there any guidelines we should be aware of before starting work?
What is the key message you want to deliver?
Who will use the material created?
How will you measure success?
Do you have a budget and timeframe for the work?
Who are the decision-makers for the project?
Describe your creative process.
We listen, we investigate, we think for a bit in a fairly focused way. Then we go and do something else for a while and try to fool ourselves that we're not really trying to solve a creative problem at all. That usually does the trick. However, our first thoughts are usually no better than anyone else's; you need to get them out of the way to start again and discover a creative route that's worth developing. We then share our thinking with our clients and occasionally we reach an agreement on the best route to adopt there and then. More often than not, this initial review leads to further development. Eventually, the iterative process stops yielding improvements and we all call it a day — usually with a result everyone's delighted with.
What information do you need from a client before you can start work?
Each project has its own peculiar requirements but the answers to all the questions listed above is a good starting point.

What inspired you to start your own business?
I was invited to start a design business for an advertising agency group many years ago. Inevitably, after years of successfully running the company for someone else, I hankered to do it for myself. Oddly enough, the three founding partners of Anatomised all came from that same agency group having spent many years going in separate directions with other companies in the interval.
