Our company started as a small commercial print shop in the middle 80s and progressed into graphic arts. In the early '90s we sold our printing presses as the print industry underwent a major contraction that continues to this day. We instead concentrated on graphic arts and design work for the trade.

Most graphic artists will argue a great website is one that is visually appealing. We disagree, it is important but is further down the list.
The most important traits of a great web site include (in no specific order)
+ Easy to navigate (don't make visitors hunt for what they seek)
+ Provides the info visitors seek in a way that makes them want to take action (phone call, email, subscribing, ordering....)
+ Is easily found on search engines (SEO is still important!)
+ Reinforces your company as a trusted leader in your industry (testimonials, awards, guarantees, etc)
+ Provides a way to stay in touch with you (whitepapers, newsletters, request for callbacks)
I have seen ugly sites that have just these basic elements provide more leads than a "pretty site" with little or no substance
