American Canine Academy has, no doubt, changed my (and my dog's) life - putting my dog, Pippin, in the advanced immersion training program was the best decision I've ever made for her, and for myself.
Pippin is a sweet, but difficult, rescued hound mix from Texas. Before working with Sean and Jasmine, Pippin was hyperactive, inattentive, and difficult to train and communicate with. While loving and smart, she has a stubborn personality and definitely knows how to push boundaries. I used to say she was a "good girl, bad dog." Multiple trainers with various methods were unsuccessful for Pippin in the past; I believed I had an "un-trainable" dog, but ACA proved otherwise.
I signed her up for the advanced immersion training program after our consultation with Jasmine, who has been incredibly friendly, communicative, invested, and professional from the start. Throughout the program, I received weekly report cards, which included videos of her training and updates on her progress. Toward the end of the program, it was determined that Pippin would need a few extra weeks to ensure her success and fine-tune her learned skills. Jasmine continued Pippin's training (at no extra cost) until she was ready, giving Pippin the extra care and attention she needed to succeed. It is clear that Jasmine, Sean, and the entire team at ACA are dedicated to going the extra mile to make sure each and every dog not only learns, but maintains, the skills they learn at American Canine Academy.
After her training, Pippin came home as a totally different dog - she is now calm, attentive, and easy to communicate with. She listens to commands and is well-behaved both at home and in public. She walks politely on-leash and remains focused off-leash so I no longer worry about her chasing after a rabbit or prairie dog. To say that Jasmine and Sean changed our lives is an understatement - we wouldn't be able to do a fraction of things we can today without their effort and follow-through. Busy public areas with lots of other dogs, and activities like off-leash walks, hikes, and runs, mountain biking, splitboarding, paddleboarding, swimming, camping, backpacking, long-distance travel, etc. are no longer spent worrying about how Pippin might react or behave. ACA will not only give you an obedient dog, they will give you a dependable companion.
Following Pippin's completion of the advanced immersion training program, Jasmine made sure that myself and all other household members understood Pippin's training, commands, and boundaries. As part of their Lifetime Guarantee, ACA offers free group classes every Saturday to practice skills and obedience in a variety of settings. In addition, should any follow-up questions or issues arise, Jasmine is happy to work with us one-on-one at no cost. Jasmine, Sean, and trainer Brenna check in with me periodically to make sure Pippin is doing well, which shows how much they care about each dog's continued success.
There is no doubt in my mind that the folks at American Canine Academy are the most compassionate, invested, and professional dog trainers out there. The people here really know their stuff, everyone is extremely friendly and they really love dogs. I bring my dog here at least every other weekend for daycare just so he can play. We are so grateful for ACA! We did the 4 week board and train and couldn't be happier with the results. Our 3yo pup was super reactive to other dogs and strangers. He would also nip if he felt threatened or defensive. We tried positive reinforcement-only training programs with limited improvement. I can't recommend ACA enough!! I enrolled my 2 year old cattle mix pup in their off-leash program (6-week board and train). Although it was hard to be away from her for that long, the dog I got back was a whole new mutt! They taught her so much in a 7 week period (she needed a bit of extra time, which they didn't charge for), and succeeded where I and other trainers could not.Walks are now a tolerable and even fun endeavor for us both, I can trust her off leash (using her e-collar) and her temperament is wonderfully improved. She is more confident, and less anxious than she ever was before, and the ongoing training and support from the team at ACA is incredible. They sent regular photos and updates to keep me in the loop during training, and even found a new kibble that her stomach could tolerate. Our dog Tyson did the 4 week board and train. Ever since he got home, he is an entirely different dog while walking on the leash! The staff was very receptive to what we wanted Tyson to work on while he was there. After several attempts with different methods of training (even with other trainers), ACA was the only place that made the training stick. Took Nala, our German Shepherd/Siberian Husky puppy in to get trained. Before taking her in, she did not listen at all and always went potty inside the house. Now she listens to all the commands she was taught and does not go potty in the house anymore. Jasmine was so good keeping in touch, sending pictures, videos and how Nala was doing. SO WORTH IT!!!! I was apprehensive at first at the idea of sending my pup Luna away to board and train for 6-8 weeks, but it was the best decision I ever made, both for her and me. Luna came back a changed dog. More confident in herself and my ability to lead her, well behaved, she listens, a lot of her anxiety is gone, a lot of her aggression is gone, she knows what we want form her and is happy to make us happy, she is learning to control her aggression, her hyper activity, and her impulses, but still the absolute goofball that I know and love. In addition to all of that, the staff at American Canine Academy are so kind and helpful! From the minute I called the office to inquire, and still now a couple of weeks after picking her up, they answered all of my phone calls and emails with my 9 million questions and update requests. Completely worth it. I sent my 75lb stubborn rescue to the off-lease board and train program when he was 1 1/2 and only wish I had done it earlier. My dog ended up spending 8-weeks in the program, due to his stubborn nature, and while it's hard to be away from each other for that long, the outcome makes it so worthwhile. Before the program, Bacon would pull on his leash, refuse to listen, lunge at other dogs, and was developing some aggressive tendencies. Today (about 7-months later) Bacon played with his canine-pals and took a 2-mile walk off-leash.The staff here has been amazing and really helped turn around my relationship with my dog. We continue to drop into the group classes to keep training fresh for both of us, and Jasmine and Jaime are great at answering and providing help on any issues that pop-up. I also now board my dog there whenever I go out of town since I know he's getting great care.With everything Bacon and I have learned through training with ACA we have been able to explore so much more of the world around us. We dropped off our 4month Colorado shepherd/rhodesian ridgeback off for training as a completely untrained, non food motivated, and easily distracted puppy. Our trainer Jasmine did an amazing job of keeping us updated every week with pictures and videos and when we got him back we were amazed. He listens to his commands and does what he is told. I was worried when we dropped him off that he would be hooked on treats when we got him back, instead he is hooked on love an attention! If your hesitant to send your dog, trust me. I've taken my husky pup to American Canine for short weekend boarding several times and had always been on the fence about doing a board and train program for a longer period. I'm glad I made the leap! The staff's been super responsive to all my emails, and they've sent me weekly updates on Yoko's progress. When I had a question about what I was hoping they would focus on with Yoko's training, they responded quickly and professionally explaining their methodology. The rumors are true, they'll keep your pup for extra training at no cost if they feel your pup needs a little more time before they send her home. Both of my 10 year old chihuahuas had several bad habits,the worst of which was going totally psycho anytime another dog walked by. I have had two of my dogs trained at American Dog School/American Canine Academy with Sean Miller and his excellent staff. Two pitbulls with sweet, yet extremely stubborn temperaments that were just generally speaking out of control. We purchased the 4 week board and train, and when we picked our dogs up they were like new animals! Sean impressed upon us the importance of following through with their training, that the training doesn't stop when they leave, using all the follow up and group classes, and assured us that if we stayed consistent, the training would stick. That was absolutely true! It was clear the animals weren't trained with force or intimidation, they were calm, showed no signs of stress, and had just simply come to accept us as the alphas. When one of them started acting up again (it's normal for them to challenge you), Sean gave us great advice and even offered to take the dog back at no additional charge, but we were able to address and solve the problem in our follow up classes. I appreciated Sean's dedication to training these animals to have a sound mind in addition to being obedient, I know he does a lot of rehabilitation there and it's clear he and his staff are very skilled at what they do. I also appreciated that the facility and the staff are very geared towards keeping the animals calm. It's not a pet-hotel, something that's clearly more designed more to be flashy to humans than it is to maintain a stress-free environment. That's not to say it's not clean and nice, I just mean that it's designed for what's best for the dogs, and not pandering to trendy aesthetics that are completely lost on the animals. You'll show up there, there will be 40 dogs on site, and none of them are barking. It's amazing. I would recommend ACA to anyone trying to get their dogs under control. This isn't a teach your dogs tricks sort of place like Petsmart or the like, this is where you take your dog to become a calm, controlled, obedient animal and/or address major behavioral problems. My family and I would like to thank Jamie Miller at American canine academy. We dropped are beaucron dog (Teos) up there for the 4 week boarding/training program. He was a very hard headed dog pulled my daughter's and I when walking him and really didn't listen to us at all that well. After getting him back I would have to say he's the best dog we could ask for. Listens to all our commands,can walk him with out him pulling us or without a leash at all. These guys are wonderful. We have a 9 year old Golden Retriever who lost his older best buddy a year ago. The younger Golden became the "alpha dog" and really was uncomfortable and didn't know how. He became reactive to other dogs while he loves people. We talked with three other trainers who said "you can't teach old dogs new tricks" . Jaimie at American Canine Academy dig a preliminary evaluation and was confident that while we were gone on a two week trip she could board and train the Golden. When we returned we came back to a relaxed, friendly, calm and obedient Golden. It is a joy to walk him in the neighborhood. American Canine Academy is the only place I will take my dogs! Both of my dogs are hard headed, suborn, and extremely high energy, something had to be done and they needed immediate professional training! We enrolled them in A.C.A.'s two week board and train. Once we got them back we were educated on what they taught our dogs, and it was as if we had brand new dogs! They were taught and understood basic commands as well as being much calmer. So now whenever we go out of town, American Canine Academy is the only place we trust to leave our dogs because they know dogs, but even more, they know our dogs and we know they will be taken care of, happy, and loved.
